This is a culmination of a number of episodes from this season. Most notably, Lie To Me. There they should the measure of a real hero in the Buffyverse. Those able to make the right choice, even when choosing between horrible impossible choices. In that episode, Ford chose to try and save himself at the expense of his friends lives. Here, Buffy chose to save the world despite needing to lose everything to do it. She could have caved to her mother and stayed home. She could have respected the crime scene and not have been expelled. Biggest of all, she could have chosen to stay with Angel no matter the cost. Instead, the threw away those things and killed the man she loved, all to save the world. Being the slayer and a warrior for good isn't enough. It all comes right down to those most crucial choices made, will you sacrifice everything for others. It may be a comical show, but it's a brutal universe it inhabits. Each season will continue to get better, but have little doubt that this show will also continue to get more serious. As the characters grow in maturity, so do the problems they face. Still, the comedy is always going to be around. I can't wait to see your reaction to the next season. This show just gets better and better as it goes.

2022-11-03 18:22:38 +0000 UTCThat moment when Rana and Chris realize at the same time what has to happen…*chef’s kiss* This show is amazing. Y’all are probably too busy to do it, but if you re-watch the S2 premiere you’ll catch so many major points of Buffy’s personal arc foreshadowed in throwaway dialogue: premiere: "I'll just be happy if she makes it through the school year." - Joyce finale: Buffy doesn't make it through finals, gets kicked out of the house, skips town. premiere: "I smell expulsion, and just the faintest aroma of jail." - Principal Snyder finale: Buffy is expelled by Snyder, and has a warrant for her arrest. (Okay, it’s not jail, but he did say a faint aroma…) premiere: "Think you can take me? You must have thought about it - what would happen if it ever came down to a fight?" - Buffy to Angel finale: After fighting Angelus many times, Buffy ends up having to kill Angel. 22 episodes ago. Brilliant show. Thanks for reacting to it.

2022-10-23 05:03:51 +0000 UTCPeople always say this but the truth is Angel fucking murdered people and the world is at stake here. Sure he is bias but so is Buffy. I would think he would just stop willow from even attempting it if what you are saying is true. Not telling buffy does not guarantee Angel won't get his soul back. It just guarantees Buffy won't hold back.

2022-10-23 03:53:59 +0000 UTC3 is my fav. Followed by 5,6,4 and then 7. But I love all seasons of Buffy and there are stellar stand alone episodes in each season.

2022-10-22 17:47:29 +0000 UTCDude, let me put this way: If Willow had a demon possessing her, but they had a way of bringing her back, you think he would say "fuck it, lets kill her!" or you think he would try to save her? I said it once and im saying again, he dont give a fuck if its the right way, he only wants to get rid of Angel cause he never get over the fact Buffy chose a demon over him.

2022-10-21 19:55:19 +0000 UTCSo something i wanna say because i think you guys misunderstood, and this isnt a spoiler because they already explained it. The slayer is (usually) only ever 1 person in the entire world. when the slayer dies, the power transfers to a new person, giving them enhanced speed, strength, durability, slightly faster healing, etc. some of them are realized they are in line to be a slayer and are trained ahead of time (like kendra) others arent realized and just randomly get the power with no prior training (like buffy did) when buffy was bitten and drowned by the master in season 1, she technically died because her heart stopped (think final destination 2) so power went to kendra giving her the enhancements, but buffy came back because of xanders cpr, and she still had the enhancements, so both buffy and kendra had the slayer powers, but no one else did, whether they were currently training for it or not. hope this helped clear it up a bit

2022-10-21 15:21:58 +0000 UTCIt’s this ep and an ep of Due South for me which featured Possession. I still love her music but always associate her with those two shows.

2022-10-21 11:15:17 +0000 UTCYeah. I’ve always had a conflicted view of Xander. At times I like him, but a lot if his behaviour is also pretty shitty.

2022-10-21 11:14:03 +0000 UTCFuino does he not live in the world? Then yes it is his call as well. I would say Buffy has the most bias in this situation of everyone and since she is also the most influential of all the people she has to be the most clear headed. Knowing it is possible that he could return would risk the world. Buffy already thinks there is no hope. Changing that and risking the world just to make her hopeful and possibly get killed trying to save him is not logical. Of course lying about what willow said is a dick move tho. If he said nevermind instead then I would have absolutely no problems with it.

2022-10-21 09:06:51 +0000 UTCfor me it was 6, 5, 4 with the rest not mattering pre rewatch. now its 6, 5, 3, 4, 2, 1. waiting to rewatch 7 with the crew before i put it down but it might be after 2. ive only seen it once and i mostly remember the comics that spun off of it, not the season itself

2022-10-21 09:06:30 +0000 UTCseasons 5 and 6 are my favorites. season 6 is number one in my books. its very much a willow season and she is my girl. also "once more with feeling" is like the best episode ever! until this rewatch i never really cared for or thought much of seasons pre season 4. 4-6 are the only ones i would revisit. now i can appreciate seasons 2 and 3 in my old age. season 1 is still too meh for me like last airbender season 1. just a lot of ground work when i just want to get to the good stuff. i really do appreciate them and the discord group that got this going. thursdays have become my new saturday lol i look forward to it every week and it brings me so much joy even when its a filler ep like go fish. i also lead me down this rabbit hole of buffy podcasts

2022-10-21 09:00:45 +0000 UTCHumbly disagree Chris, it was a big betrayal of trust to both Willow and Buffy, I agree w Fuiono.

2022-10-21 02:22:58 +0000 UTCI was wondering if anyone in the group was gonna catch that both times Angel was killed, it was a blonde girl who ended his life with a kiss and a "Close your eyes." (Darla in the flashback in Becoming Part 1 when she originally turned him, and then Buffy when she had to save the world)

2022-10-21 00:53:44 +0000 UTCBy the time this episode first aired in May of 98, I had turned the entire Classified Advertising Department of the Dallas Morning News into fans of the show. It became a weekly ritual for us to go home on Tuesday nights, and discuss that episode the next morning at the water cooler. At 21, I was one of the two youngest employees in the department. So it was pretty funny to me that all my older co-workers who scoffed and laughed at the idea of watching a TV show called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" only a few weeks earlier were now as hooked on this show as I was. And MAN did we have plenty to talk about the morning after this episode aired. By all accounts, there wasn't a dry eye among us the night before while watching lol. The few among them who were still iffy about the show were won over by the end of this episode. This was also the episode that won over my parents, who themselves never took the show seriously just because of the title. That was a big deal back in the day. No one expected this show to be this much of a hardhitter, mainly because it was called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". This episode is pretty much what REALLY got Buffy's cult following its start. Just ask the Classified Advertising Dept of the Dallas Morning News. ;)

2022-10-21 00:34:14 +0000 UTCThat wasn't his call to make. Buffy was the one doing the fighting. She deserved to know the ENTIRE situation going in, so she could plan her attack accordingly. Had she known Willow was doing the spell, she might not have spent so much time fighting that no name vamp. She very possibly could have dusted him quicker knowing her main priority was to stall Angelus and keep him away from the sword. That would have been easier for her to do than killing him. Angelus had no idea Willow was doing the spell at the same time, so he would have had no idea that he needed to get to that sword sooner than later, so Buffy would easily have been able to keep him distracted for the 5 extra mins it would have taken for Willow's spell to kick in like it did.

2022-10-21 00:21:44 +0000 UTCTo this day, I can't hear a Sarah McLachlan song without thinking of this episode (well, that and the humane society commercials).

2022-10-21 00:15:52 +0000 UTCMy order is season 5, 3, 6, 2, 4, 1, 7 from best to worst

2022-10-21 00:15:51 +0000 UTCThe worst thing Xander has ever done imo. Xander thinking he knows better than either Willow or Buffy when they have both put complete trust in him to have their backs (aka pass along this information) is so shitty. He takes control of the decision; completely ignoring both of his friends wants, needs and choices. Willow's decision matters less than his own opinion and his keeping that information to himself so selfishly puts Buffy at a huge disadvantage tactically in the upcoming fight. Bad form, Xander.

2022-10-20 22:41:39 +0000 UTCWOOOOOOOH! HELLLL YES, There are many other good episodes coming up especially next season but this season finale is pretty top tier. this whole arc change the game for fantasy shows like this, without buffy, we wouldn't have any of the CW shows we have today... hell many of the writers went on to do more shows like once, supernatural even Lost and Once, (it counts made by same people of lost)

2022-10-20 22:31:17 +0000 UTCI wasn’t familiar with her here in the UK back then and then I watched an ep of Due South and discovered Possession and then this aired and I was a convert. Still love her today but she never tours here.

2022-10-20 21:35:19 +0000 UTCLike many Buffy fans, I’ve been waiting for this one. There are other episodes that we’d probably all agree are contenders for the best ep of the show, but for me this one will always be my favourite episode. It was such a big deal when it aired and the way it ended was just so upsetting. I love everything about it. Waiting for series 3 was excruciating! Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanz really nail that last scene together and David did such a great job of showing two very different people in just a few moments. Poor Angel, with his soul, is now in hell to be tormented. It’s also another great example of the show taking real world topics and presenting them in a fantasy way, as you spotted with Buffy’s mum’s reaction to hearing her daughter was the slayer. Plus, this was the second show of the time that made me become a Sarah McLachlan fan (other Due South), after hearing Full of Grace play at the end. Combined with the score, it really hits the emotions. Oh and Spike’s “Goodbye Piccadilly Farewell Leicester Square” is a lyric reference to a world war 1 song “It’s a long way to Tipperary” which originated in Ireland and then became more widely used by the British soldiers and is one still fairly well known in the UK.

2022-10-20 21:34:41 +0000 UTCMany folks say 6 and 7 are their faves. I'm not one of them - I'm a crazy S4 guy.

2022-10-20 21:13:55 +0000 UTCOf all the things Xander has done that are questionable not telling buffy about the soul thing is probably the lowest on my list. The fact is telling buffy that would not help her in anyway because Angel did not deserve to be reensouled and Buffy should not be holding back when the world is at stake.

2022-10-20 20:45:05 +0000 UTCSnyder knows the supernatural exists, I'm not sure he knows what a Slayer is, let alone anything about Buffy, other than she, and her friends, are always in the middle of whatever weird shit is going on.
Cory Garron
2022-10-20 20:41:15 +0000 UTCThe Orb (of Thesulah) was used to temporarily house his soul once it was pulled from the Ether until the spell was able to shove his soul back into his body. The demon can NEVER leave his body, that's what makes him a vampire. Spike, Dru, they ALL have demons inhabiting their corpse (their human souls are in the Ether, waiting to pass on once their body is dust). Even if he was stabbed in the chest, it was with a steel sword, not a piece of wood.
Cory Garron
2022-10-20 20:39:18 +0000 UTCAs to why bother re-ensouling him? As a demon in hell, he's just one of the guys. Just another demon. With a soul he'll be tortured... endlessly... forever. He'll be punished for all the shit he did... and then some, and then some more, and more. And once again, his body is inhabited by both the vampiric demon, AND his human soul. At the same time. Concurrently.
Cory Garron
2022-10-20 20:29:31 +0000 UTCThis is soooooooo good. The fells in those last seconds of Angel and Buffy. The true, genuine love! It gets me everytime, its heartbreaking that she needs to kill and literally dump her love one in HELL.... And there was Xander beeing a dick as always
