I just don't understand how they could have thought, this was a good idea. Yeah, let's torment the guy, who already struggles with his emotions, with loss and sorrow. What could possibly go wrong?? Just shows how cold the Jedi can be. All they have accomplished is a way for Palpatine to strengthen his bond with Anakin.
