2022-09-30 00:13:56 +0000 UTCA few weeks back I remember Mickey having such a big problem with him being a slacker, even though he and Dwight go back and forth being the top salesman at the branch. Lots of people give minimal effort at jobs they don't love and still do them well, just like Jim, but I thought it was so funny he felt Jim HAD to quit and go get a job he cared about because his laziness was unfair to the rest of the office.

And secondly, you seem to have a LOT of serious shit bottled up that you're projecting onto a simple relationship between two characters that are highly exaggerated caricatures of popular stereotypes and that interact with each other within a sitcom. They're not real people and it's not meant to be taken seriously. Over the course of the show, Dwight regularly puts the physical well being of his colleagues knowingly at risk, he is often incredibly rude, distasteful and obnoxious to the people around him. Do we because of that judge his character and perceive him as the bad and unlikable person he would be in real life? No, of course not, so Jim isn't the devil for the things about him that, if he were real, would make him a seriously unreflected bully or worse who can be really full of himself. It's a ridiculous comedy series, that's just not how this type of show is supposed to be consumed.

2022-08-13 04:03:47 +0000 UTCI’ve honestly never seen a reaction group react with such questionable feelings towards Jim lol. His pranks are frequent, sure, but mostly harmless. Then he often goes out of his way to help Dwight (and Michael) when the rest of the Office is apathetic or ambivalent to their feelings/health. He is a slacker and a joker, be he is shown to be a good guy to pretty much everyone in the office with a good head on his shoulders when things are serious. Obviously he’s not perfect and things can go too far, but comparing him to early Dwight’s routine selfish desire to lord over others, consolidate power, and attain the most money (as mentioned in the Diversity episode), and it’s not even an argument for me. At the end of the day, they’re both great characters.

It's apparent you've never worked in such an environment and you're projecting a lot of your insecurities and bigotry. Someone makes horrible decisions on medical care for everyone or actually takes money away from an employee, those employees have an absolute right to be angry at that individual. It would also be one thing if Dwight was being picked on out of nowhere but he puts himself in that situation by bullying others around him as well. In most private companies I've worked for if an employee sabotages a commission that employee would be fired or put on leave. Not only are you fucking with an employees money but also fucking with the money of the company. Nobody is calling for violence. My point is the situation is so extreme that I know many people who earned commissions and if in Jim's shoes would stoop to violence and I wouldn't fault them for it. Hell... I've personally seen two dudes almost come to blows at the idea of just splitting an important commission. That action screws with people's lives, takes food out of the mouth of children, etc. Even the idea you can just quit is a very child like mentality because people get stuck in jobs all the time for various reasons like health benefits or because they have children. Stop projecting your high school insecurities on real world, grown up issues. BTW, just because as adults we understand how the real world works and don't let what happened in high school define us doesn't mean people weren't bullied. Given the strong geek/nerd culture in these reaction channels I'm willing to bet most people here were bullied in high school in some capacity. I was bullied a lot so you really don't know what you're talking about.

2022-08-09 14:33:59 +0000 UTCI really feel that some of Jim's prankings are justified, because in Diversity Day, Dwight literally stole a quarter of Jim's yearly commission, and he regularly tries to get Jim fired. Dwight does things that could genuinely hurt Jim's life, while Jim retaliates with mostly harmless pranks. Jim also tries to help Dwight feel better way more often than Dwight does for him (like when they talked at his car in The Fire - which was a bit of a joke, but part of Jim did want Dwight to realize it was less serious than he was making it, or in Office Olympics when Jim gave Dwight and Michael medals at the end, after they had an upsetting conversation in the car), which might not make up for all the pranks, but I think it shows that there's never malicious intent behind the pranks For some reason it won't let me reply to my own comment, but I wanted to agree with the first comment, as there must be a reason everyone in the office dislikes Dwight, it's far from just Jim. Dwight stole a quarter of Jim's commission, stripped them of sufficient health insurance, suggested Michael fire anyone but himself on Halloween, is often racist/homophobic/sexist, often suggested firing most of the employees and saying he would do it as soon as he was in charge, constantly needed to feel superior to others and tried to hold his little and imaginary power over other employees, and he did many other things that would be spoilers. I very much hold that Jim is at least partially justified in taking out the anger that Dwight himself inspires among all the employees.
