2022-04-19 07:20:04 +0000 UTCHaving a confusing first returning episode only for it to be explained later is very common in anime.

2022-04-19 07:19:24 +0000 UTCMinus the China arc. That’s the worst 3eps of the entire series

2022-04-17 03:58:30 +0000 UTCIt'd be stranger if you guys WEREN'T confused by this episode. Also, the comparison between this series and Death Note is solid for a little while, but then falls apart by the 2nd halves. Where Death Note degrades into a shitshow by the end, Code Geass speeds up the roller coaster until it gives everyone whiplash.

2022-04-14 05:43:10 +0000 UTCAh that Zero vs Schneizel political arc would've been awesome. Fucking studio execs and their meddling lol it never goes well, no matter the media type. Although R2 turned out pretty well all things considered.

2022-04-14 01:08:12 +0000 UTCIt's like Lelouch was the coach for his team for the superbowl, left midway thorugh and left the Quarterback in charge. The QB may be able to lead his offense but not the whole team.

2022-04-14 00:11:34 +0000 UTCThere was an almost two year gap and Code Geass went from a late night anime for older audiences to a prime time anime that more kids would see. They had to reintroduce concepts because the kiddos watching R2 weren’t likely staying up to watch R1. They also debuted a toy line right between R1 and R2 which impacts a lot of the storytelling this season in other ways. It wasn’t for story purposes. The writer of Code Geass was at anime NYC 2019 and talked about having to scrap half of his ideas for R1 because he wanted R1 to be 50 eps, not 25. And he had to change a lot of his later series ideas around for the second season (timeslots, business stuff, etc…). He mentioned wanting to have an election for Japan’s leader with Zero vs Schneizel and that the studio told him that arc didn’t have enough robots

2022-04-13 19:37:51 +0000 UTCSame comment I put on the YouTube vid: Real life business impacted this story heavily. There was an almost two year gap between R1 and R2. The show went from airing at late night (R1) to during prime time (R2). So the blood and nudity are toned down from R1. They also had to REINTRODUCE the series to a new audience/age bracket. So the first couple eps have some familiar remixed story beats from season one for the people who didn’t see it the first time. The toy line came out between R1 and R2 as well. So there are a lot less generic mecha in R2 and a lot more “special” ones with actikn figures to buy (I imported almost the entire line lol). And Micky got it kinda wrong about Eupht and the Emperor. The Dub has him say “you’re worthy of being my child now” which could make Micky think Euphemia. But the original Japanese/Sub is “HE is worthy of being my child now.” As in the emperor knew about Lelouch. The English dub made a change to make it more vague/add more mystery.

2022-04-13 15:37:42 +0000 UTCSome context for the Normie‘s… Code Geass came out in 2006 and was one of if not the biggest anime hit of the year, which brought in a huge influx of new fans for the premiere of season two. To compensate for people who only watched the premiere, identical scenes from season one episode one were put in (Lelouch going gambling, playing chess against a scumbag Britainan, C2 getting shot after making contact with Lelouch). All to bring new fans into the fold.
