Times were way different back then, during Itachi's childhood : so much more sneaky attacks, treasons everywhere, tension between rival countries (remember all the attempts of foreign countries to steal the sharingan and the byakugan from the Leaf), the third great ninja war, etc. Later, with Pain attacking the village (pre-fourth ninja war period), things are way more stable and a state of peace is going on + everyone knew the threat that the Akatsuki represents for the whole world... union between the ninja villages would come out of this situation.

After this episode Itachi became my second most hated character in Naruto (right after Danzo). He actually had other order: "Buy me some time". Instead, he listenned Danzo, not his direct leader, and kill his clan All this time he HAD a choice.

An Uchiha doesn't need to kill someone that are close to them or people who they love in order to get Mangekyou. They just need to see that person die. The mental state from that causes their Sharingan to evolve into Mangekyou. Itachi didn't kill Shisui to get Mangekyou, he could've gotten it in a lot of ways actually aside from seeing his friend commit suicide. Or if he was very close to his parents seeing his parents die would be another. The method of death doesn't matter, they just need to see it. It doesn't need to be the person with the Sharingan to be the cause of death.

There you go. This is why Itachi is my favorite character in this show. Such a shakespearean protagonist, with a true cornelian choice. Plus, as a big brother myself, I can't help but truly understand the strong bond between Itachi and Sasuke.

Itachi prevented a war in a way that the Uchiha's reputation wasn't tainted. He also wanted to die by Sasuke as a self punishment. Yet even he sees that the way he went about things was selfish and wrong. Him giving advice to Naruto about his way to Peace was wrong was perfect. Itachi is a great character, or at least the more realistic. He was really a Pacifist.

Get your facts right, she did not release them from anything, The Tsukuyomi lasts a mere instant to those not under it (Asuma, Kurenai) while Kakashi spent 72hrs in his head. Tsunade only looked after both of them since they had after effects from being fucked in the brain.

The choice to eliminate the Uchiha Clan was the only guaranteed way to protect the leaf. It's possible peace could have been negotiated but if it doesn't work you lose your element of surprise. The Uchiha would then know the hire ups are aware of their coup and keep their guards up.

yeah no doubt Madara would smoke the 5 kages even if he didnt have infinite chakra or an edo tensei body. his perfect susano'o would be strong enough to blow the 5 kages out of oblivion. all the shit he pulled before was just to gauge their power. if he didnt have infinite chakra or an immortal body, he would fight differently and not take the hits that he did.

To remind you of why itachi would originally put sasuke in horrible genjutsus and stuff, itachis original plan was to make sasuke a hero of the uchiha clan. To do that, he wanted sasuke to hate him as much as possible so he would come after him and kill him. This would make him the hero of the uchiha clan because he killed the man who killed the rest of the clan. This was also beneficial to itachi because he felt so much guilt over what he had done, he wanted someone to punish him for it. And it was most fitting for it to be an uchiha like his little brother sasuke. Then sasuke would return to the village a hero and everything would work out. But Tobi threw a wrench into that by telling sasuke the truth that the leaf village actually caused everything. The coup, the genocide, everything was the leaf village governments fault. So of course sasuke would change his mind and hate the leaf village instead of peacefully going back to it.

Sasuke had to think it was all Itachi's doing because if he ever knew it was The Leaf's doing, he would become a threat to The Leaf and Danzo would have assassinated him. So Itachi had to make Sasuke think it was him, to save Sasuke.

Genjutsu is easy to dispel when it is cast on others but difficult to break out of when it is cast on yourself, unless you are proficient at it. It varies depending on the skills of the caster and the target. Also good to have Chris back.
