Mfks are still in Jail for possession in the 70s, 80s, 90s and so on, so shows giving 20 years for drugs is pretty on point. I got locked up when I wa 18 for weed, and I got it from a dispensary. This was 10 years ago so I can imagine how bad it was 20+ years

The thing is Kallen was so set to believe a misconception against her mother. When you look at things from the outside things can seem obvious but internally it's hard to tell.

I don't know why you guys are so surprised about the 20 year sentence. For a large portion of your lives even here in the US we had MANDATORY MINIMUM sentences for drug related charges in every state. We have people in jail today serving 20 year sentences for posession of very small quantities of Weed. It was also a very effective way for police to target people to put away by searching a "suspicious" person or planting it during any incident. As far as Kallen goes my take on her is that her lack of understanding comes from her own mentality of fighting against what ever hardship. So while she knows about the shitty relationship she can't fathom why Mom would stay after being done so dirty vs just leaving because she could. She for whatever reason thinks she's only sticking around to make her own life more bearable COMPLETELY overlooking that she wants to make her kids life easier to which is also why she gets mad at Lelouch when he talks about people not fighting and swallowing their pride to get by. To be fair I think it's just a thing they need to make a story and have a lesson and character motivation reinforced. But I also thing it's one of many little things that keeps this show at "really good" vs like "master piece" level

This show actually has alot of really underrated and amazing characters and dynamics that get overshadowed by Lelouch. Makes for good rewatches though to notice them.
