I think you may be a little too hung up on the fairytale being accurate. Don't know if it's ever really fully cleared up after this point, but the way I see it Oz may not even have made up that story himself but over his reincarnations he's heard it and when he reached the point where he is now and has to tell people he uses it as his "half truth" to help whoever he's telling with a frame of refference. Otherwise it would be like he'd use the phrase "Cinderella Story" in a world that doesn't know what Cinderella even is in the first place. Since Oz has always been less than truthfull my theory was that the maides were in fact genetic decendants but Raven made me think otherwise. Still pretty sure we don't actually know the real rules of their powers yet (but again that's only my theory) As for the relics (again not sure if it's cleared up yet) remember that Oz asked previously what and where they are. The implication to me is that he used that information to find and secure them so Salem couldn't. When doing so at some point he created the vaults to seal them away with the maidens powers. The maidens only correspond to the vault they locked away but have nothing to do with their respective relics origins or usage. Hoping you guys keep double dropping these, but at the very least super glad you guys double dropped this one

I think also that dust may have been originally seeded throughout the world by the meteor shower caused by the God of Darkness blasting through the moon. From there it grew and scattered around Remnant through more traditional geological means.

The way that Ozpin in vol 5 described the way he gave the Branwens their power and how it was small compared to how he gave the maidens their power it seems like it was an active choice that drained a lot of his own magic ability from him. Pairing the part of this episode when Jinn said he spent some life times in mourning and trying to forget and the Four Maidens WoR video, I think it is a reasonable guess to think that the original maidens were a group of 4 sisters who came along lifetimes later, reminded him of his daughters, and broke him from his melancholy and hermitage.

They were the original maidens. The powers were passed on for the first time in the cycle when Salem killed them. Or that’s what I think at least. I don’t believe the writers have ever clarified. Maybe they’ll cover it in the future, or maybe it was just poor writing idk

I agree about the maidens not being created from their children. But I find it weird that Ozma had at least one child with silver eyes, but never tried to get more information about that.

The children died in Salem and Ozma’s fight, collateral damage. I think it was confirmed on the blu ray commentary that during the many periods of reincarnation, Ozpin met the four sisters and they reminded him of his children and so he bestowed a large chunk of his magic onto them, and they became the first four maidens. As others have said the children shown in this episode are not maidens, but they were Ozpin’s inspiration for the maidens many years later, when he met the four sisters who pulled him out of his depression (as shown in the Four Maidens World of Remnant)

Think back to the opening monologue of the first chapter of RWBY Volume 1 the narrator (Salem) says “Mankind, born from dust” Mankind evolved from the ashes of the original humanity. The semblances Huntsman and Huntresses’ wield today are a “semblance” of the magical abilities of the original humanity. And the dust crystals, used for fuel and weapons are formed from the ashes of the humanity that got wiped out. Basically the 1st generation of humanity are the 2nd humanity’s fossil fuels

Ozma's and Salem's Daughters are not The Maidens as the show does not state that, also The Story of the Seasons must happain afterwards and it did happen as Ozpin reveals that the old wizard in the story was in fact, himself in one of his previous incarnations and that he gave them their powers. Meaning the story is real and the Daughters can't be The Maidens. Becuse they are too young, they exist before he became The Wizard as none of incarnation that we see are look like him, they die in the fight, were born with thier power instead of obtain and it doesn't make sense that they can open the Vault if their power didn't come from Oz
