If you rewatch that scene, you'll hear the ringing sound effect with supersonic-like waves that signifies his power was used. The screen also flashes to a greyish green/negative colour when someone is hit. You'll see this when he puts Miwa to sleep and also tells Hanami to not move. He can't control his power, which is why he avoids talking for everyone's safety and his own protection. Just assume if he isn't speaking ingredients, he is using his power.

Mahito is the only one with genitals cuz he can alter his body (he could be a girl if he wanted, there's so much fanart of it XD). That said, Hanami is definitely more Feminine and Jogo is more masculine, just letting you know that pronouns don't usually matter for them. I mostly say "it"
