I thought it was an actor mistake the first time I heard them say it but nope all the English VA kept saying "day-t". I love the sub and I had hopes for the dub when I saw it on VRV but I couldn't stomach the acting and the re-writes.

It was truly a small thing amongst many with the haikyuu dub for me, so I’m too far gone to say anything positive about it

The "ko" in Dateko is short for "kougyou" which in this case means technical....the full name of the school is Date Kougyou Koukou (shortened nickname is "Dateko") or Date Technical High School (shortened nickname is Date Tech). There's nothing mistranslated.

But then it reminded me of back when I was in high school there used to be some high schools people would call by a nickname or shortened it, so didn't really mind it as it was kinda nostalgic. Now I think it's kinda cool.

I lost my mind when I think Mickey said it like the English word episodes ago. It just reminded me how “unofficial” the official haikyuu dub came off as, but beyond my misgivings y’all did a great job with the first Dateko match
