I am really glad that June finally escaped. It was really beyond credibility that she would go back again and not get executed. Everyone else's story has advanced and her story has been stuck for 2 seasons. I wish they had let Janine escape with her, I think Janine in Canada would have been very interesting. I really enjoy watching with you 3 and hearing your discussions!

2021-05-25 03:09:22 +0000 UTCI like how they showed the "roots of Gilead" in the flashbacks with all of the importance that having a baby meant when people thought about their relationships, it shows how even before the big bad wolf (a.k.a. Gilead) came society still inflicted emotional abuse on women because of their capacity to reproduce, and it digs deeper into June's psyche because we understand that she wanted to save Hannah not only because of her motherly instincts but because she felt that it was the only thing that made her valuable to Luke... that's so fucked up, and also a stark commentary about our current culture. PS: At first it was difficult for me to engage with what was happening because I was thinking about Janine :( I hope they don't leave that thread hanging for too long.

2021-05-22 23:41:23 +0000 UTCI'm so glad the writers finally took the decision to let June escape Gilead, I was so tired of her escaping and being recaptured on a loop. It was already stretching disbelief - Gilead should have killed her as soon as they caught her the third, fourth times. One thing I wish the writers had brought up through characters in the discussion about whether to give June in or not, was that whilst hiding June almost certainly would end the NGO and their missions, June has deeply valuable testimony that can expose Gilead leadership as hypocritical. She's not the only survivor to escape from Gilead, but she's the only person who was so high at the top, who went to DC, who was in the room with powerful formative commanders. In Canada, she can do far more damage to Gilead and help more people than any freedom fighter or even a charitable aid mission. Someone should have brought this up, it would have made the decision even harder. I wish June was in the right mindset to defend herself more. And I'm super excited to see the damage she does as a "hero" in Canada - she will be a famous public figure. The Rebel Handmaid who chartered Angel's Flight then escaped Gilead.

I also like the more "casual" format of the uncut reaction and discussion, it feels a lot looser than some of the more serious reactions that the reactors know will end up on YouTube and need to be edited and uploaded ASAP. 2021-05-21 20:51:57 +0000 UTCThe entirety of this episode felt insanely emotionally intense to me in a way I hadn’t felt in a while. I don’t know if it was because of the apprehension and lead-up to June finally escaping Gilead but not knowing if it was actually going to happen or not YET AGAIN, or just a culmination of everything, but it was intense in a different way. The only moments of reprieve were the flashbacks, which actually felt out of place to me in this episode. I know we’ve seen this format before with episodes flashing back and forth, but when it went from being this crazy emotional intensity and apprehension to a much slower and tame flashback, it was almost too much of a jolt this episode for me, like they were just filler scenes. But, WE FINALLY GOT A WIN!!! I’m sure things will change real fast and get dark again, but I’m taking the win for the time being!
