I love this episode but I enjoyed what the Manga did here more. Because in the Manga that flashback with villagers going from calling Naruto "That Fox brat." to calling him Naruto and caring about him actually happens when one of Pains has Ebisu by the throat. I just like that it showcases that the village had already turned around on Naruto before he saves everyone by the end of the arc.

you realize its completely different to write a male character with stereotypical male leanings and attributes and just change it to a 'female' to fill a female quotient for your story VS writing a female character with uniquely female thoughts and experiences that resonate with the female fanbase right? What you're suggesting is still a female character that while being badass and tough (like Ripley as your example) that heavily leans on the tropes of what constitutes a tough, masculine leaning protagonist. Kishimoto said he doesn't know how to write female characters (young ones at that) and while that may be a copout to some at least he admitted it and he knows his flaws. One person does not know every experience of every demographic. Now should he have consulted more women he trusted to give him feedback and advice on how to write some of his female heroines? sure.

While I agree with many the new phase of Shippuden isn't as good as the first part, the show is still damn good. Shikamaruppuden to the Pain Arc is some of the best shonen anime writing and the following story wasn't going to live up to the highs of the payoffs from the first half of the Naruto story. After this arc while I may not agree with some of the choices it was highly entertaining and I cared about the main characters. After the Pain arc, I feel the anime is still well written and consistently a top tier shonen anime despite some of the issues. The argument that this show goes in the dumpster after the Pain Arc is pretty ridiculous.

Many people don't understand that Sasuke and Naruto in the Og Naruto fight were equally powerful but Naruto lost coz of the chakra cloak. As we got to know that even if it gave him power it damaged him a lot as well. But Sasuke's curse mark doesn't cause any damage to himself. Ya if over used it caused him pain like at the end of the fight but it didn't damage him all the time he used it unlike Naruto who was beimg damaged the moment the chakra cloak enveloped him. Hence when the last blast occured Naruto suffered even more damage than Sasuke. And we all saw in the Itachi fight that he can use the wings from his curse power to shield himself. So it definitely gives him extra durability in fight. Therefore he won the fight even though they were equally powerful they weren't being equally damaged.

I see Chris criticism of Konan when Nagato literally DIDNT have any dream or ideology and actually did exactly what Konan also did, which was to make Yahiko’s ideology their own, is basically repeating the same bullshit other people say about the women in Naruto being bad. The only difference is Nagato got an important power and became a main villain whilst Konan was a supporting villain (like Itachi and Kisame, who doesn’t do shit either, for example). Kishimoto knows how to write any character. What he’s struggles with is the feminine part of his characters which he admittedly makes stereotypical but the rest is perfect like with his male characters 🤷🏻‍♀️

Speaking of Kishimoto being bad with female characters, I don’t know if this line was in the original manga or not to be fair, but Ino’s “I could almost fall for him” line made me cringe so hard I wanted to scream. I also wish Sakura hadn’t actually hit Naruto here and had just skipped to hugging him. Or at least jabbed him in the arm or something instead, not hit him on the head after he just went through a battle with PEIN, a guy who singlehandedly annihilated the village. I think it’s legitimately out of character for Sakura to be that level of inconsiderate, that could have seriously hurt Naruto with the level of exhaustion he must be at. The writer having her do that just feels lazy and undermines the scene a bit for me.

I have seen people that loved it felt later arcs topped this one and people who have hated it and felt the later stuff ruined the whole series for them. Kishimoto has zero subtlety whatsoever. The Pain arc exhibited this more than any other arc in Shippuden up to this point. He shoves his themes down his audience's throat as if we were children that needed to be force fed lol. Nothing was particularly difficult to comprehend. Why was it necessary to spell in writing "this is what I'm trying to say" every other second? It shows a complete lack of respect to his audience. THAT, or he is a shit writer. Regarding the female characters. Konan was no different than Nagato. Both Konan and Nagato were happy being the pillars that supported Yahiko’s dream. Because they believed in him, and his mission. After Yahiko’s death, Nagato took over, and Konan became his support. Konan’s essentially, always been a pillar for those she believes in. That doesn’t make her a bad or underutilized character imo, it’s all she’s known. Especially given that she has always agreed with their mission, so it makes sense for her to continue supporting them.

Kakashi's dad breaking the code caused him to commit suicide. The code is to put the success of the mission above all else including your comrades. He chose to save his team instead. He was chastised and cursed by the village and even the friends he saved for abandoning the mission. So he killed himself.

Naruto (became hero), Kakashi (made peace with his father), Sakura (became competent skilled ninja), Hinata (confessed her love), Tsunade (put her life on the line for the village), Shikamaru (became a motivated leader) etc so many characters’ arcs could’ve concluded right here and been fine. If only Sasuke had defeated Itachi, learned the truth somehow, and helped defend the village from Pain, this series might’ve ended perfectly. Take out Tobi, and you really don’t even need the Cloud even though I love those characters.
