[Premium Access] Naruto Shippuden Episode 167 - Planetary Devastation - Group Reaction (Post 3/4)

Hey just joined from YT to make sure this comment got a little traction: DON’T ever watch Boruto, it amazingly destroys every cool thing from Naruto from character growth to fan’s hope for the world. Watch Naruto the last movie and that should be it. There is absolutely nothing story wise after Naruto the last movie, he never had a kid, and the creator never let his assistant head the development of some poorly crafted spin off story.

I will always love watching the scene of Naruto losing all sense of self and slowly giving into the Nine Tails. It invokes such an immense feeling of despair; watching Naruto just walk to his death; it’s amazing when an anime can create that feeling.

Although the anime did make the fight longer, in the manga Naruto does go into 6 tails immediately and does crush the necklace as well it's just that this happens right after Hinata is stabbed rather than later on like in the anime. The whole large body of water (was not in the manga) and the pain vs 6 tails is a lot shorter with the fight lasting a couple of panels before Pain does the whole Planetary devastation then it plays out exactly in the anime. So TLDR: the fight in the anime & manga are basically the same its just that the anime stretches it out a bit but the same sequence of Naruto 6 tails > breaks necklace > fights pain >Pain + Naruto move further away from the village > Planetary Devastation happens the exact same way in both mediums

Someone correct me if I'm just not remembering (since it's been years since I read it), but something you guys may appreciate knowing is that this episode is mostly filler. Originally after Naruto changes in to 4 tail mode Tendou Pain leaves the village immediately to get closer to his real body and immediately uses Chibaku Tensei (Planetary Devastation). The whole fight in the middle. never happened but I can't recall if the part when Naruto crushes the seal necklace happened (I feel like it did though)

i dont think they were acting 'weird' during the episode reactions at all. nahid was being his usual sensitive ultra hype fanboi self and rana was reacting like normal during hte actual reaction. However i did notice Rana seemed a bit quieter and not as interested in the discussion....maybe she was just having an off day, or it was a late night. she could be tired too lol.

I LOVE how you guys understand and appreciate the animation and stylistic choices. The direction was different from anything they'd previously done and i remember as a kid being amazed by it bc the fluid animation & uneven linework reminded me of Fooly Cooly It's like literally for YEARS no one in the fanbase understood that the animation in this episode was specifically done with the intent of taking a different creative direction. the fanbase spent so much time bitching about the style that a lot of the creative choices in this ep went very underrated... imo

I always hated the Animation of this episode. I still remember super looking forward to 6 Tailed Naruto in the Anime after reading it in the Manga. And I will always remember the absolute disappointment I had when we got this episode. Also the over the top fighting in this episode also makes it awful for me to. If in the Manga Naruto had done half the things he does in the Anime, Pain would have been killed like 7 times.

people always forget that pain just fought and killed kakashi by himself, fought many other jonin and chunin. nuked a whole village by himself, fought naruto in sage mode and was still willing to throw hands with nine tails.

THE WATER WAS CREATED BY TENDO PAIN!! In the Episodes where Jiraiya first encountered pain, he was trying to figure out why only summonings was being used against him, when Negato possessed all chakra elements. You are seeing him use Water and Earth mostly, but you also see him use Wind and Fire for a few moments against Naruto as well.

I think this is the first time in a long time where the Normies (and pretty much any sane fan) aren't mad that the episode ended. THAT is how you do an anime fight. All the budget thrown into the climax and the climax being fit snug into a single episode. So much fight was fit into this episode that I swear to god, I remember it being 2-3 episodes of the Nine Tails fighting Pain. More shows should have taken notes from Naruto fights.

21:15 Chris is right Navi. Pain was behind a tree and Nagato was inside one. Nagato released that small ball in the air by reaching out from the tree and pain was being used to control and use that jutsu after that. That's why he said that Tendo aka Pain is close now he can cast that jutsu now. Also chris water isn't just underground. There water jutsus as well ya'know. Remember, the people of the village hidden in rain said that Pain could control the rain and sense people through it. A teeny tiny spoiler, Nagato can't use water style it is pain or Yahiko who was able to use it.

If you guys want to see that good ol 2d animation then watch Jujutsu Kaisen, also made by mappa, they had to 2 years to make it compared to a couple months for attack titan. So it looks really good, especially the fight scenes!

(Animation) Atsushi Wakabayashi was the director, storyboard artist and animation supervisor for this episode. If you remembered this name that’s because he was the same person who directed Naruto episode 30 (Sasuke vs Orochimaru), 71 (Third Hokage vs Orochimaru and Two Hokages), and 133 (Naruto vs Sasuke). One person cannot animate a whole episode. In the case of Wakabayash, he was a freelance at the time, and had many contacts. He stacked his team with animators such as the legendary Matsumoto and Shingo Yamashita... too many to list (fun fact, One Punch Man series director provided 2nd key animation). This episode took 6 months to produced (3 months is the usual time) and became a milestone in animation history.

The music/sound track in Shippuden is astonishing. The composer Yasuharu Takanashi did incredible work. Honestly when I shed tears in this show, it is 95% because of the music that is playing. Bought his music for this show on iTunes a few years ago, no regrets.

God damn what a legendary episode. When Yamato is running and the word "Nine" appears on his hand and he's like "No, nine? It's too late, how could this happen?" To the Nine Tails creating that meteor shower with the soundtrack "Tragic" playing in the background and Naruto with red eyes slowly walking towards the camera. Top to bottom this episode never fails to give me chills.

These episodes didn't come out until 2010 and Avatar finished in 2008, so if anything it could have been influenced the other way in terms of the elemental fight styles.

The animation on Nine tails vs Pain is not that loved by the community ! The change is really weird and sudden , the total deformation of the faces... made the fight a lot more goofy and cartoony that he was in manga I personally liked that animation but may Naruto fans hate it
