If you think of the mayor as the president, then Carcetti would be the equivalent of a senator, sort of.

2021-03-02 23:06:41 +0000 UTCHey guys, been watching you since the GOT days and big fan of the Wire, so I was super psyched when you picked it up. Been loving these reactions so far. I actually had a request for this season. Not sure who reads these but hopefully Chris can take a look (since he’s seen the show before). I’ll try and keep it vague, but there will be SPOILERS in the next section. If you haven’t finished the show, now’s the time to stop reading. In this Season Finale, there’s a speech that a certain character gives at a meeting that has a strong impact. It’s a fantastic moment b/c the viewers find themselves swept up in the rhetoric—and thus miss the speech’s underlying message. The showrunners, upon realizing what their watchers missed, wrote Season 4 accordingly: to gradually reveal the quality of the speaker’s character, so that the viewers go from hope and optimism to cynicism. Chris, could you sit on the revelation about this speech when y’all hit the finale? This is assuming it doesn’t come up organically: if the others are able to read between the lines then great, more power to em. But in my own experience, Season 4 hits a lot harder when the viewer is tricked as well, and isn’t able to figure things out until it’s too late. Anyway, thanks. Love what you guys do, and looking forward to the rest of the reactions!
