Captain Haldane's body being taken past his men is one of the most powerful scenes in the show (and any show). He was this show's Winters. I'm a little surprised it was cut from the edited version?

I heard some people explain that Sledge's scene with the nurses was because the nurses had the 1st Marine Division patch on them when they did nothing the 1st Marine Division actually did. That it was a 'stolen valor' type thing. Don't know if that's true, but have seen multiple people say it.

Losing Captain Haldane & 1st Lt. Hillbilly Jones was catastrophic to their morale they lost their 1st and 2nd in command two days apart. And I thought I read somewhere, but I could be wrong. Hillbilly was Haney’s closest friend in the company. And the people that we’re watching John Basilone golf we’re journalists trying to get an interview. Little trivia on the actor who played captain Haldane. If you’ve watched the movie “lucky number slevin” he played Josh Hartnett’s dad. Great reaction as always! Can’t wait for the next one!

The casualties and death total can be a bit deceiving when comparing the European Theater to the Pacific Theater. The European Theater was much larger in scope and we had more soldiers deployed in that theater.

I'm not justifying taking gold teeth but at that time, gold could have been worth something. I believe it was in 1933 FDR signed an order essentially confiscating most gold except for small amounts. Coupled with recovering from The Great Depression, there was a lot of that going on everywhere.

The construction guys were from the Naval Construction Battalions, also known as "Seabees." They built airfields, docks, buildings, everything the military needed to make new bases. They often built and repaired runways while being shelled and bombed so they did suffer some casualties during the war. Also Captain Haldane mentioned that his father worked at a factory that made fabrics for the Marines, so his dad might have been involved in making the blanket that covered his son's body.
