Many women did it for food (Europe was facing starvation in the 1943-45 period), some because they liked the flashy uniforms and they other perks of a very long occupation (4 years). Some were killed on top of being shamed, whilst the male collaborators were simply shot, lynched or hanged. On a sidenote if you are interested, many Muslims, Indians (Indian Legion), Eastern Europeans and Nordic people served in the German army. There weren't many German-Americans serving in the German army, most chose to fight for the US.

2020-09-11 02:29:50 +0000 UTCFWIW, the paratroopers landed on top of two depleted German SS panzer (tank) divisions. The Germans lacked men, fuel, tanks, planes and almost everything else, but they had some quality equipment including the first jets, assault rifles and some monster tanks.

2020-09-11 01:48:06 +0000 UTCYeah it was a sequel to another amazing star studded film, 'The Longest Day' about D-Day and shows not just the American beach landings, but American airborne, and British and Canadian beach and Airborne, along with Free French Forces who dropped and landed. Longest Day is the BEST WWII movie in my opinion, right after A Bridge Too Far.

However, the US and Soviets were able to implement the blitzkrieg tactic more effectively because by the time we entered the war in the west and the Soviets were pushing back east, most of our units were mechanized. While the mechanized parts Germany had were top tier technology, they were still transporting a lot of things via horse and other old school methods. The Allies ability to produce an ungodly amount of equipment nullified the slight technological advantage the Germans had on the ground. The air and sea were a different story. The Allies had a pretty significant technological advantage on those fronts.

Most of it is just based around Easy Company of the 101st Airborne and interviews with survivors from that unit if I remember correctly, and I believe they were predominantly white.

She was fraternizing with the germans to keep herself and child fed. They cozied up to the U.S. soldiers in hopes they would be protected from punishment from their neighbors.

2020-09-10 16:35:55 +0000 UTCThe units were still segregated, though, and there was no black airborne regiment, so you're not going to get that in this series. It's not a choice or a judgment, Easy Company simply didn't run into with any black units, and this was made as authentically as possible.
