im sure theyll get there but rewatching this episode reminds me how real this show is. The cops arent some fictional good guys and perfect like most shows, people dont fit into defined roles, its all about inner workings, corruption, realism etc. In real life, people are always trying to avoid their job and make someone else do it. I always thought of The Wire as almost documentary like. Yes there are plots and really interesting ones at that but its like you are just observing the inner workings of this thing.

I watched the Wire Season 4 right before I moved from a suburban to an urban school district. It was the most eye opening, revelatory experience of my career as an educator. I don't exaggerate when I say the stories and themes it addressed has shaped my career....

The first scene of this show with Snot Boogie is a perfect metaphor for this show (and nearly all of Simon's shows, which are almost all about institutional failure) - if all these systems keep failing, and we know why they're failing, why do we keep doing the same thing? "Got to, man. This is America."

Best show ever is subjective, what makes one of the top shows the Best for one person might not cut it for another, so throwing that label around is hyperbolic. With the Wire I always consider it to be the most Important show ever made. While shows like Breaking Bad, the Sopranos and Mad Men etc. are wonderful explorations of characters, the Wire is an exploration of our Institutions and the systemic problems which keep them crippled. Which for me stets the Wire apart from all the rest of the prestige dramas of the last 20 years.

I always said if the Normies ever start watching the Wire I’d start paying again, and here I am. Hope you guys enjoy it, it’s long, slow and complex, but it’s an amazing journey and one worth taking. That “Snitches get Stiches” garbage is the lie Hollywood and Gangstas feed you. Everybody Snitches it’s part the game. Now if Poot were to Snitch on Bodi that would be a betrayal, but Bubbles snitching to the cops, well it’s a bit dirty but it’s not some high level betrayal, it’s all in the Game. Drug Dealers and Drug Addicts are not on the same team, Dealers don’t care about their customers why should the Addicts care about the dealers?

Well that is generally the consensus. But i tend to lean more towards The Wire, Mad Men, and Sopranos as the Holy Trinity of television. At least in terms of characterization.

Glad chris joined just so he can navigate through some scenes. But excited yall starting this journey. This show is about realism, and what goes on in the inner cities that not many people think or talk about. Can't wait to see the Normies get invested. Yes it's an old show, not action packed, but gots great moments.
