The problem is that there is often a subtle difference between the play speeds of the versions between sites like netflix/prime, and physical formats like DVDs, Blurays, and whatever else. This happens for a lot of shows and movies, and sucks if you don't have the same version as the reactor is watching. There isn't really a workaround for this unfortunately—some viewers will be left out no matter what. :/

I think it's a combination of the two. The "German tanks were better" is somewhat true in terms of pure stats (or armor penetration, or armor, etc) and there's no doubt they were more finely engineered. But what is the point of that in a war scenario? The production lines for the German tanks and over complicated designs were counterproductive. Repairing many of them was a nightmare. The US were well aware of the deficiencies in the Sherman 75mm but overall it did not matter in the big picture. The 76mm Easy Eight fixed a lot of those problems, and even though the Panther was technically better, it was a much more even fight. Combined with air attack, fuel shortages, and a huge numerical deficit, it was always a loosing battle for the Germans from a production standpoint.

German tanks were definitely better. It was no myth. The allied Shermans were called "Tommy Cookers" by the Germans because of how easily they caught fire and were destroyed. They key is that they were mass produced while the German tanks were harder to make and overengineered. As a German tanker POW said while being interrogated after the war: "A Tiger (tank) could take on 3 Shermans... but it couldn't take 4. And there were always 4."

It's a myth that German tanks were better than American tanks. German tanks had tons of mechanical issues and broke down and were typically overly complicated. The reason there is a 'myth' about German tanks being better and our Shermans being crap is because we lost so many tanks to relativey few German tanks. Which is because the Germans were on the defense so one camoflauged tank waiting to open fire... they are going to have an advantage. If it were reversed the Germans would lose more tanks. Our Shermans and our tanks in general were good tanks, and in a lot of ways were better than German ones. There are a TON of myths about the German military in WWII and the Axis in general. The reality is they Axis was the underdog from the start and all their huge wins were almost sheer luck that things worked out EXACTLY as they had to for them to win until that magic 'luck' ended after 1941-42.

You guys should watch The Pacific after this. It's another great WW2 miniseries on HBO. It would definitely be a good follow up to this.

At 59:30 on the timer. Guarnere: "17th Street" Heffron: "Front Street!" Me, who is actually from Philly: Those streets are a mile and a half apart, no way Guarnere and Heffron both knew this tar head guy, they live in completely different neighborhoods. Sorry it's a minor thing, but it really bugged me.
