You have to really understand it like a lot of other stuff in this series. I feel like Pat isn't necessarily into these mind and strategy games that this anime has. He looks more like the type to want action and blood and shonen type of moments. I could be wrong tho

Secondly, I feel you’re putting the wrong impressions on this anime. Although it does have battles and fights, Vinland Saga isn’t a shoenan anime. It’s not like Demon Slayer where it’s just fight-after fight-after fight. Because the fights don’t matter in VS. it’s about this savage part of history and what it took to survive in it. It’s more about watching characters develop in interesting and nuanced ways. And as you’ve seen, Askeladd is no exception. And thirdly, contrast to popular belief, no one called Vikings, “Vikings”. It’s simply a term that means to steal or pillage that was popularized by the Danes. So there is technically no such thing as, “Viking culture.”
