2019-12-07 18:16:02 +0000 UTCI feel like Team Four Star likes to do that quite a bit, especially with the characterization of the Saiyans. It comes up a lot in the Bardock specials too with the way they note that, while what Freeza did to them was monstrous genocide, the Saiyans as a whole were pretty ruthless and not particularly empathetic to the races they conquered. They even hammer it home when Vegeta's dying in Episode 28 where he admits that he probably still would have been evil even without Freeza's influence.

2019-12-07 01:07:55 +0000 UTCWasn’t the gag/lampshade Team Four Star was going for was how Funimation Dub made Vegeta a bit more heroic than he originally was so Team Four Star plays up Vegeta’s worst traits that fit the character better. Like Micky said Vegeta was a huge asshole to everyone and was more their aloof ally who was mostly fighting to satisfy his pride over saving the Earth or even his family at least at this point on the timeline. Obviously he gets better as the story goes on.
