Chirrup - Part 1 (Sparrow on a stirrup) Pastelmat

Part 1 of the little Sparrow from Katy Ferrari's photo.

Very speedy this one, I've chosen to create darks and lights first as the line art is confusing. Dark Grey Pastelmat either board or the sheet, and the image is 5.5x7.5" so choose a piece of pastelmat a couple of inches bigger all the way round.

This will work well on the white pastelmat, and if you're using a hot press paper I would suggest burnishing in between layers.

Can't wait to see your versions - please don't forget to credit Katy and me :)

Hi Melissa, I get more pencil dust when working on the darker colour and using pablos more - it's minimal though - I have a dust allergy and I can cope :)

That's right - the polychromos white has a real resist when you try to work over the top of it - it's very very different to the pablo which has a more velvety chalky feel so much easier to draw over :)

You said you don't recommend using polychromos white because of layering issues but use the Pablo white. Why the issue if they are both oil based?

Bonny do you get a lot of pencil dust when working on pastelmat board? It looks like in this video there may have been. I'm still waiting for my pastelmat to arrive to try it for the1st time is why I'm asking.
