Our focus piece for December I want to do something a little different - I want to create a piece that you can sell on and make prints from etc so trying to come up with something that will be quite appealing and make a really lovely stand alone piece.
This is my five minute planning sketch - I'm using the fabulous Alakazam, photo from Kathy Russell, in the photo he has a head collar/halter on, which I'm not going to draw, I want to capture the dramatic lighting, using some dark blues and trying to get that lovely shadow where the mane comes across, but also showing the lighter hairs sitting over the top. I'm not sure if I'll bring in the jaw line as yet, but am thinking I may go a little sketchy once I get to the bottom lip.
So we get to draw all the gorgeous details, the lovely eye - and that's going to be a challenge getting the lighting right, but we are also really thinking about the composition of the piece and what to bring in and what to leave out.
I'm really looking forward to this one, I am going to use pastelmat, I think for the other tutorial in December I'll use hot press paper, but for this one it's just screaming out pastelmat lol!
Hope you're all as excited as me! Kathy has given us permission to use it to share, sell the original and make prints if you wish :)
