A Hare Sitting Up Part 1 - November Full Tutorial - Lightfast Paper

This is part one of the Hare tutorial. I've created it using Derwent Lightfast paper, however you can choose whichever support you'd like.

I have used the Icarus Board for the background, but I've shown you the process if you're not using the icarus board - many of you I know will not have one.

Would I recommend the board? Well if you have the money available it's nice to have, and it certainly made the burnishing easier, but I wouldn't say it is a vital piece of kit, nice in cold weather and if you suffer from arthritis as it's lovely and warm, and enables you to burnish without having to use really hard pressure - that could be a good reason to purchase one.

1 hour 42 I start burnishing if you want to skip to that part

1 hour 44 I switch the icarus board on.

The background I have given you in full with no timelapse, however I have not recorded me talking as I'm adding the second layer as there was nothing new to say.

I really hope you enjoy this tutorial, it's not as highly detailed as some of my pieces, and is a little more painterly. I've discussed using panpastels as the background - I can't use them - and I'd also say try to remove as much of your outline as you can before adding the background - I found it hard to get rid of the graphite lines later on.

Bonnie. What size do you recommend on icarus board? Do you recommend the biggest one?

I'm trying to do this on Stonehenge Aqua Hotpress and finding both luminance and lightfast are not putting down pigment very well at all. Should I give up and get different paper?
