Owl tutorial progress
Added 2020-05-17 22:15:36 +0000 UTCDare I say it - I’m really liking this smooth paper 🙈 I’ve spent all day drawing and I’m starting to kind of get the hang of it I think. I’m actually using two photos - one sharp and one slightly blurred - I will supply both with three tutorial. I didn’t want to go all out with detail in the face so added a blur in photoshop. I don’t think I need to add all the tiny details so it’s working quite well. You can use any smooth paper or pastelmat or drafting film. I’m using Hahnemuhle Nostalgie - it’s a bright white paper, has a soft texture and takes quite a few layers of pencil. I can use the tombow really well on it and the slice to a certain extent. It doesn’t photo well in my strong light sadly - it’s made it look a little harsh even when I’ve softened it.

They are very different - although both smooth papers. The hn is almost harder if that makes sense? whereas the fabriano i find a little spongy. I like the fact that I don't have to use a lot of pressure on the HN to get good pigment whereas with the FA i needed to add quite a bit of pressure.
