My thought process when starting a new piece

I thought this might be useful for you, sharing my thought processes when starting a new drawing. What paper will I use and why, how will I create a background, the colour of the paper, and make of the pencils etc. This all goes on in my head before I start and a piece and actually as I'm in the early stages of starting. I have often actually started and then scrapped it and used a different surface. My messy attempts at creating the background will follow - and it is messy and not very successful lol!

Ha ha!! I think it’s good to think out loud - but it does make me sound totally mad 😂😂

Finally! Someone who makes my crazy thought process seem more normal...lol 😂 I loved that it felt like you were were talking thru the thought process with me. And it makes me feel so much better that you question your choice of materials and don’t just “know” straightaway, what the best combination is. I’ve only been a patron for a month and done a few focus tutorials. Might have to move up a tier....I want to do this pretty kitty on drafting film!

Hi Wendy - I'm doing a q&a on this on Sunday. the drafting film sheets, polydraw and duralar are all made by Grafix, they will all work well. The duralar doesnt' take the slice tool very well, but still works beautifully with the eraser. I like the grafix sheets of drafting film as I can choose my size, plus it's much thicker than polydraw. You need the double matt film. I havnet heard about inkjet coating - wonder if that's the mylar one?

Bonny which drafting film are you using? There is grafix, polydraw, duralar, mylar..... when they say it is double matt but with an inkjet coating is that still ok? All a bit confusing... Great video!
