Update on Power of +1

Hi All,

Firstly, apologies for not posting for a while.

Some of you might already be aware if you've seen the post on Royal Road, but to summarise, it was essentially a lot of comments and feedback on why the novel was starting to be about running a chicken shop as compared to leveraging his +1 powers more brutally (ie/ world domination). In my mind, the novel was always about making money, building business with a side helping from +1, rather than a novel where the +1 was the end all and be all. All those comments made me started questioning why was I writing the novel in the first place. I hate to admit it, but those comments got to me, and made me feel a bit shitty in general. Writing is not easy, at least not for me, there have been many long hours and late nights. And then to have people comment saying its shit, that hurts... a lot. To be fair though, perhaps the comments were somewhat justified, maybe the readers thought they were misled to read something that the novel wasn't. I'm sure I said this before at some point, I know you can't please everyone.

So I took a few days off to think about what I really wanted. There was a lot of options floating in my head, ranging from just shut it all down, to various forms of keep going but doing something slightly different, etc. For me, it came down to whether it was fun or not. I do actually enjoy the writing process and being able to build my own world (particularly given how crazy our real world is these days...). And the not fun bit was perhaps when I was getting ahead of myself and trying to chase for more readers, the Royal Road algorithm on how it ranks a novel is pretty brutal.

Ultimately I've decided to keep writing, but I'll likely focus more on patreon releases. I will continue to upload to Royal Road, but it will be at a much slower pace than before. I will also make it super clear in the synopsis as to what people should expect from the novel. Its not an overpowered MC hell bent on using +1 to take over the world, its business and money with a sprinkle of +1.

IMPORTANT

For all the subscribers, a couple of things:

1. As an apology for the delays and what I'm going to call my mental health break... I'll be uploading the 3 chapters I have remaining in my backlog, so chapters 37, 38, 39. These three chapters are all rather big in size, as the novel effectively was moving from the small business arc to the next arc, and lots more things had to happen in a week. Following the previous release pace, there is probably almost a month of chapters worth there. I'm going to start writing chapter 40 onwards

2. As I mentioned, the story is never going to be about Theo dominating and becoming over powered with +1. Its not LitRPG, its not prog fantasy. It will remain a slice of life about money, business building and personal growth of Theo, as his experiences help him understand there is more to life than money. It will be a long story. I intend to explore all sorts of different businesses and the problems that go with those, more characters will be introduced, etc. It won't be an overpowered person who conquers everything in front of them with no problems, there will be ups and downs. As things are in real life. I'm not going to write about Theo using the +1 as a scam way to the top. If that doesn't interest you, then all good, thank you for your support so far, and I would suggest you stop your subscription moving forward

3. For those who are still interested. Thank you for your continued support. I'll work hard to try and write an interesting story. The next couple of chapters (37-39) are pretty pivotal in shaping Theo and his views in the future. So I'd love to get some feedback as to whether it works or not.

Thanks all, and once again apologies for the delays. I'll be posting the 3 chapters shortly after this.

PS: I'm going to login to Royal Road later today after avoiding it for a whole week... wish me luck!

Money changes people! But sometimes in a good way. At least that is how I'm positioning it!

Honestly I got more interested when he started focusing on slowly building his businesses up and leveraging his +1 for that. The generic ass world domination route just seemed boring and I'd rather watch(read?) the mc develop as a character emotionally while building a life he would be happy with. I honestly almost dropped earlier on because of how focused on money and greed he was, now he seems to actually care for his staff and being an at least mildly decent person.
