DAN’S NIGHT TERRORS AND MEASLES INFECTION! House M.D Season 1 Episodes 2 Reaction. Another great episode. Dan is a high school Lacrosse player and in the middle of the game, he experiences blurry vision and gets hit in the head so he gets admitted to the hospital. Dr. House is confused when the boy’s parents come to him for an appointment but finds out that House’s signature was written by Dr. Cameron. House becomes interested in the case when he hears that one of Dan’s symptoms is night terrors. Dr. House first claims that the night terrors are because Dan got sexually abused by one of his parents or relatives but Dan denies it. Later, Dr. House notices Dan’s leg twitching which is known as a myoclonic jerk which normally only occurs when someone falls asleep. He immediately talks with his team about Dan’s condition and what the possible diagnosis is, he even claims that Dan’s father isn’t his biological father. Dan stays for the night and experiences a night terror of Dr. House torturing him which is confirmed in the brain scan results. Dr. House finds that there is a large blockage in Dan’s brain ventricles and suggests that he might have multiple sclerosis. So Dr. House and his team try to relieve its pressure but later find out that it’s a symptom itself. During the night, Dan is not found in his bed so the doctors search the hospital. Dr. House suggests that he might be in the roof so Dr. Chase, Dr. Cameron and Dr. Foreman try to stop Dan from falling at the edge of the roof. Dan thinks that he’s in the lacrosse field and when he’s about to jump, Chase catches him and is admitted back into the hospital. 

This incident rules out multiple sclerosis as the correct diagnosis and the new diagnosis is provided by Dr. Cameron for being neurosyphilis. So to treat this, penicillin is injected into Dan’s brain but he begins to experience an auditory hallucination instead which drives him crazy. This rules out neurosyphilis so Dr. House is now stumped on figuring out what the correct diagnosis is so he has a coffee break with Dr. Wilson. Dan’s parents interrogate him of why he can just sit there when their son is dying and not doing much to check on him but Dr. House tells them everything he knows about Dan’s condition to confirm he checked on him very recently. He tells them to support Dan so they leave and Dr. House takes the DNA samples from the parents’ coffee cups which Dr. Wilson scolds him for as being against the rules. He sends the coffee cups to the DNA analysis room which confirms that Dan’s parents are not his biological parents, they adopted him. In a previous appointment, Dr. House remembers a patient who stated that she refused her baby from getting vaccinated which gives Dr. House the idea that Dan caught the measles virus because his biological mother didn’t get vaccinated as a baby. So they undertake a retina biopsy on Dan to confirm that he has the measles virus and the correct diagnosis is subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Dan gets brain surgery which turns out to be successful and Dan is finally released from the hospital. At the end of the episode, Dan plays Lacrosse whilst Dr. House watches him. Dr. House stays at the field even after the crowd are gone.
