DR. HOUSE CURES REBECCA ADLER’S TAPEWORM DISEASE! Wow that was a fantastic first episode, I’ll definitely react to at least all of Season One. Rebecca Adler is a Kindergarten teacher who collapses during a lesson, experiencing a seizure that also prevented her from speaking clearly so she gets sent to the hospital. After an initial examination, Dr. House and the rest of the medical team discuss what is happening to Rebecca initially diagnosing it as a brain tumour after an X ray scan concluded that there’s a lesion in her brain. However, Dr. House disagreed with the medical team arguing that it cannot be a brain tumour but something else. So Dr. House arranges Rebecca to take an MRI Scan. Although, it initially gets cancelled by Dr. House’s boss Lisa Cuddy but Dr. House arranges an MRI Scan again on Rebecca after Cuddy makes a deal with him that he works at the clinic. However, during the MRI Scan, Rebecca suffers an allergic reaction from taking gadolinium which blocks her throat preventing her from breathing so Dr. Chase and Dr. Cameron perform a tracheotomy on her after quickly realising this and manage to save her life. Meanwhile, Dr. House works at the clinic with his first patient who is a man that is extremely orange after consuming too many carrots and vitamins and rudely tells him that his wife is cheating on him and laughs about his condition. Dr. House then examines a ten year old boy who is having breathing problems because his mother prevented him from using his inhaler to treat his Asthma. Dr. House then criticises the mother’s lack of common sense and during his monologue of explaining Asthma and steroids he gets the idea to treat Rebecca’s condition with steroids. So Rebecca gets treated with steroids which greatly improves her condition for a while making Dr. House believe that she has cerebral vasculitis which is an inflammation of the blood vessels in her brain however, Dr. House gets the disapproval from Lisa again for his lack of evidence of Rebecca’s diagnosis.
Although initially responding well to the treatment, Rebecca suffers another seizure and gets heart failure so the team bring her back using a defibrillator. Dr. House persuades Dr. Foreman to investigate Rebecca’s house using Dr. Foreman’s juvenile record against him. So Dr. Foreman takes Dr. Cameron to Rebecca’s house and do not find anything particularly unsanitary or disease-causing apart from finding ham in her fridge. Dr. Foreman discusses what he found in Rebecca’s house arguing with Dr. Wilson that Rebecca is not his cousin and isn’t Jewish because of the ham. Dr. House then gets the idea that the ham must’ve caused the neurological problems in Rebecca because if ham is undercooked and eaten, the tapeworm also gets ingested and reproduces in the body and some even pass through the blood stream into the brain. However, Dr. Wilson tells them that Rebecca has refused any more treatment and wishes to die at home so Dr. House talks to Rebecca to try to convince her that his diagnosis is correct and that she can actually be cured so Rebecca asks for an X-ray to prove it. Dr. Chase tells Dr. House that there may be a way to X ray Rebecca to prove to her that there is a tapeworm even though tapeworms don’t show up on X rays. Dr. House then claims that actually they can X ray her leg instead of her brain because tapeworms love thigh muscle. So the team X ray her leg which proves that there is a tapeworm in her leg so Dr. Chase gives her two pills to have everyday for a whole month. Rebecca accepts the treatment, gets cured from the disease and meets all of her students in the hospital.
