January 2019 Announcement - Good News & Bad News
Added 2019-01-15 05:53:49 +0000 UTCWe're going to start 2019 off with a bang. Sadly, this is not an update regarding the new engine. ValturNaa is still diligently working on it. He's making small breakthroughs every day but still not ETA on when it'll be ready for testing. With that said....
It's with a heavy heart that I say that Pokemorph is being shelved. That's right, after nearly 5 years of working on the game, we are finally setting it aside for an indefinite amount of time. This decision did not come lightly or willingly.
Our legal advisor contacted me in regards to some possible changes to copyright laws in 2019 as well as some recent movements from Pokemon, Gamefreak and their sister companies, which had him give us a firm 'stop'. Our QAS, Deadman, went on to contact their headquarters to try and get permission to use the Pokemon names in our game but was essentially laughed at. The only alternative was to bastardize the names of the Pokemon to things like Boobsasaur, Cumander, Squirts and so on. Believing that would only diminish the integrity of our own game, we decided to shelf it for the time being.
With that said, we wanted to make sure we had a back up plan before we made the announcement.
So, now the good news!
We've already started working on our new project, Tierwäch. This game isn't much different from our original design for Pokemorph. The biggest difference is that every little bit of it will be our's. The engine, the assets, the art, the creatures, everything will be our's. This will give the team a creative freedom that we didn't have with Pokemorph. That and we won't have to worry about anyone coming after us, which is a load off our minds. We'll be releasing information about the game as it comes along. For now we just wanted to make the announcement about the game and some of the things we're planning on implementing in it.
Changes from Pokemorph to Tierwäch:
-Male or Female Protagonist: Choose to play as Lucas Wolfe, a 19 year old male who served 4 years as a Statesmen, or his childhood friend Sophie Kaiser, an 18 year old female who served 3 years. Choosing one makes the other one a companion.
-Male or Female Monsters: That's right! Unlike Pokemorph, the creatures have male and female forms with some futanari/herms thrown in.
-Two Different Release Types: Unlike Pokemorph we'll be breaking the game into two types of releases. First is the Map Pack which will have the base game; Tiers, training center and Tier circuit. Then Quest Packs will be adding story elements and events to it along with additional Tiers. So essentially, we'll be releasing a base game and extended version.
-New Everything!: Starting with the new engine we'll have a new region to play with, all new sprites from nature to cityscape and beyond with the creatures having their own sprites as well. On that note, we'll be recycling a lot of content and story elements from Pokemorph to where it'll have a familiar feel to it but will still feel brand new.
-Monthly Updates on Patreon: With the new direction we also wanted to put more effort into staying in touch with the public and our patrons. We'll be doing this by providing an update on where we're at every month as well as Tier concept releases and other information on the 15th of every month with a story released at the end of every month. An additional monthly update will be released to showcase new Tier concepts to patrons.
I'll do an additional post or two this month to give more insight into the game itself, the current plans for the characters and stories and so on.
On a final note, we just wanted to thank everyone who has stuck with us through this adventure so far. We know how disappointed many of you are that Pokemorph has been put on hiatus but we hope that everyone will come to enjoy the new game as much as the old one. Thank you again for your understanding and continued support.
