Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 7-13 REACTION (I just binged the rest of the season, yes)

Trust me, I truly did NOT plan on doing more than 3 episodes today, but oh well.

I'm not sure when or if I'll be doing another anime, but I'll keep you posted. For now, I'll be taking a bit of a break to focus on some YouTube content.

Thank you to anyone who joined Patreon because of Solo Leveling! I did read an article that season 3 may not come out until 2028, so I guess we'll have to wait :(

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 7-13 REACTION (I just binged the rest of the season, yes)

Comments

I watched this reaction just like how I watched a movie hahaha!! Enjoyed it so much, your excitement when Jinwoo showed up is so relatable!! And the binge watching is completely valid, there's a running joke amongst those that watched the episodes when it just released, Jinwoo's feet were probably the most hated especially after a cliff hanger hahaha. Thanks for this awesome 2 hour++ long reaction :D

I understand. I binged all 27 episodes of Gurren Lagann in something like 3 days on my first watch. It happens 😄 Ep7 - Uh, why are we suddenly watching the English dub? - Bruh 😂 - Who tf does this Minsung guy think he is 🤨 - Jinwoo when he realises he's fucking loaded with all those weapons and equipment he has. - I might be overthinking it but I'm a bit worried about Jinwoo sending his shadow soldiers out to patrol on their own. What if they get out of control, go too far beyond what Jinwoo intended and cause more harm than good? - He can just fast travel to floor 75 instantly. Nice. Wish I had that luxury in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. But nope, every time I leave and re-enter, I gotta fight my way through every single floor all over again. - So Jinho's dad got the same illness as Jinwoo's mum? Ep8 - Oh shit, the flying ants are here. - War with an enemy so strong that they had to unite all of demonkind to face it. I wonder if this is specifically talking about Jinwoo. - Demon girl is actually down bad for Jinwoo - Interesting. Above floor 90 the dungeon is no longer on fire. - That is one of the critiques I have of this show. Everything is just way too easy for Jinwoo. Sure, it's cool to see him being badass but there's no tension in it. Like, we always know he's gonna get through any fight pretty unscathed. So it's good to see him struggle a bit against Baran at least. - Damn. Ryu's Shin Shoryuken has got nothing on this. Ep9 - „final episode of the day“ and this, dear children, is what we call „lying to yourself“ 🤠 - Got the elixir of life and a goddamn dragon on his team now. - Do you think Jinwoo is gonna go all Dracarys on his enemies at some point? - This got me. Jinwoo's mum finally waking up really got me. I need a moment. Ep10 - Ah, and so it begins. The endless cycle of „just one more episode“ - Yoonho is on some Wolverine type shit here. - It would be very funny if Jinwoo just summoned the fucking dragon in here - Agreed, it's good that they stopped it here. We gotta save the real fun for when we actually get to Jeju Island. - Ok, Jinwoo isn't officially joining but remember, he sent a few of his soldiers into the shadows of five of the other hunters. And he now has the ability to instantly swap places with his shadow soldiers. I'd be very surprised if Jinwoo doesn't end up appearing on Jeju when things inevitably start to go south. - A ten minute delay in the broadcast. So whatever happens, Jinwoo is probably gonna show up ten minutes late. - Holy shit, I did not realise the absolute NUMBERS that these ants would swarm out in. - Ah. Well. So much for that healer girl. Ep11 - Fucking hell. They can't even see it coming. - Good point. No communications with the outside. Seems like a massive oversight in their strategy. - Well, the queen is dead. But as we've established, that was the easy part. - lowkey panicking rn - HIGHKEY PANICKING RIGHT NOW. - And the Japanese are just completely awful, got it. - At least most of the hunters in the queen's nest are still alive. Byung-gu, you will be missed. - But notice something? As soon as the stupidly overpowered Jinwoo isn't involved, there are proper stakes. This shit is actually really dangerous. People die. This is the kind of tension I've been missing with most of the episodes where we see Jinwoo just plow through everything with little effort. Ep12 - That being said, his late entrance here is really badass. But that's exactly why, from a storytelling perspective, I'm really glad Jinwoo didn't show up any earlier. - Was that loud glitchy sound in the episode or was that your computer freaking out? - Oh shit, this son of a bug is actually starting to get afraid and run away 😆 - Dragon. Yes. Good. - To quote Kang Daniel: You can run, you can hide, but they always find. „They“ referrring to Jinwoo in this case. Ep13 - The ethics of turning Byung-gu into a shadow soldier are iffy for sure. But he was already dead, Jinwoo wasn't the one to kill him (contrary to that dude from the snowy forest dungeon) and it's to save the life of Hae-in. I'd say this is okay to do in this situation. - Okay, this was done about as respectfully as he could have. Healing Hae-in and then immediately releasing Byung-gu in order to not burden his soul any further. - I do not trust Beru. Something feels very off about him. - New villains? Setup for season 3? And we still need to deal with Jinwoo's dad as well. - Man, what an army Jinwoo has amassed. This was a fun show. Really cool fight scenes, lots of badassery on display. And the stuff about the game is intriguing, I'm quite interested in what the system actually wants with Jinwoo. And why he's seemingly the only one who can level up like that. But generally, this show is pretty simple and straightforward. I mean, the plot can basically be boiled down to „JRPG protagonist fights monsters and levels up so he can fight stronger monsters.“ On repeat. In general, Jinwoo is just not that interesting of a protagonist. Especially after he gets uber-powerful, he seems to have lost quite a bit of the personality he used to have in the beginning. Now he's just this super stoic type. Not much else. Yes, he's really cool and badass. But there isn't much more to him than that. He rarely struggles in battle. IIRC apart from the very first episode, he has never lost a single fight. And since he just wins every battle he goes into, you don't really ever worry about him. It's getting too predictable. It's what I said above: The episodes that actually had me on the edge of my seat are the ones that Jinwoo wasn't involved with. As soon as he appears, all that tension disappears immediately. And to be fair, in this instance it did work. Seeing Jinwoo deal with the black ant after it almost wiped out the entire team was a really good cathartic release. But I would like to see Jinwoo himself also struggle to overcome big obstacles. Plus: his one really personal stake, healing his mother, has been resolved now. I really hope that season 3 can do something interesting with his dad, so he has some personal stakes again. I mentioned Gurren Lagann above. I don't know if you've seen it (if not, I will definitely recommend it for a future anime poll) but that also sorta has a concept of its protagonists getting stronger and stonger as they face ever more powerful enemies. However, it just does more with its characters and story that gets me way more invested than Solo Leveling managed to. Gurren Lagann actually has something to say that isn't just „look at how strong these guys are“. Don't get me wrong, I did like this show. My monkey brain gets a huge kick out of these fight scenes :D Story- and character-wise, it does leave a bit to be desired. But I will be back for season 3 for sure.
