Death's Game Episode 7 & 8 (Finale) REACTION & COMMENTARY

- Have I already mentioned how much I love how badass Yee-jae as the detective is? - So he finally got his revenge against Tae-u. What now? - Yup, same child actress as The Glory. - You go through so many different lives, so many different identities, you lose track of who you were originally. - In a weird way, all of this strongly resembles Doctor Who. Every time the Doctor dies, they regenerate, thus getting a new face and new personality. It's how they kept the show running for over 60 years, by recasting the lead actor every couple of years. While the character doesn't assume other people's identities and/or memories (the Doctor is always just themself), they do drastically change on the outside AND on the inside, from incarnation to incarnation. And that has led to some severe identity crises on several occasions. „I can't keep on being somebody else“ That's a line from the Twelfth Doctor, just as he was beginning to regenerate. He's several thousand years old at this point and has gone through more than a dozen different incarnations. He was just tired of it. Refused to regenerate. Almost preferred to just die in that moment, rather than become a new person AGAIN. Of course he didn't but he certainly was considering it. And it wasn't the first time. - Okay what the fuck - So we're doing a bootstrap paradox now, huh? My dad was married three times. His first wife is the mother to my two brothers. His second wife is my mum. And his third wife was the one where finally everything just worked out. They were perfect for each other. And she was an amazing „second mother“ (or whatever you want to call it) to me as well. I basically grew up with two sets of parents. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2017. One year later she was gone. My dad was 78 years old at the time. Not the sort of age where one goes out and finds a new partner. He got quite lonely. Didn't help that I had moved to a different city about 600km away back in 2016, so I couldn't go see him as often as we would have wanted to. Of course he still had his friends and my brothers were also always there for him. But life isn't sunshine and rainbows for an elderly deaf widow. The nature of his disability alone already means a lot of social isolation from the hearing society. And now his wife who was always there with him, no longer is. I last saw him when I went home for Christmas in 2022. It was sometime in the first week of January 2023 when I took my train back and than was the last time we met in person. We did have a video call in February though and in it he told me that he was getting tired of this life. That he didn't really have any motivation to go on anymore. He was 83 years old, twice divorced, widowed for almost five years and just so damn lonely most of the time. Just over a week later I got that phonecall from my brother. Our father had passed away. He wasn't sick. He didn't do anything to himself. He just felt a bit weak one day, decided to lay down and then just didn't open his eyes anymore. I'm sure it was a combination of exhaustion, a lack of a will to live any longer and broken heart syndrome, like you say. It is deadly indeed. Physically he probably could've gone on way longer probably. He was in reasonably good health for an 83 year old man. But mentally, this was the end for him. And his brain shut down all activity by itself. As sad as I am that he's gone, I'm glad he at least met such a peaceful and painless end. - I wonder about one thing: now that Yee-jae has become his mother, what happened to her own original consciousness? Did it merge? Would she now finally know everything that went on in his head? Or did he „replace“ her? Which would mean that the mother's original self is gone, right? Basically dead. Right? - So was it her who lived out those 32 years? Or only Yee-jae? - This is all I need from the ending. Just the knowledge that he has finally been given the chance to make a different choice. Whatever else happens next is not for us to see. - But with everything reset now, I have to wonder: Who's going to stop that psychotic maniac Park Tae-u now? 😅

Yay! Thanks for the double episode! I don't know if I would have been able to wait another week without watching it on my own. I almost teared up several times in these last two episodes so I had to put on the brand new GFriend Killing Voice to cheer myself up while I'm writing this(hint hint) I almost thought our guy was going to get Heesung's lawyer out of jail. Mostly to reveal the truth of who murdered Jisu. He would still probably be convicted of obstructing justice or something but it would have been significantly less jail time. Destroying the evidence right in front of his eyes was really satisfying. Also now that Heesung's a vegetable I don't think he's going to get his payoff after his sentence is over. Speaking of which I did think that Heesung would have gotten off way to easy if he just died from getting hit by that truck. It's pretty funny that he also played a serial killer who was in a coma in this show as well. Yeah, that's definitely the same kid. Hey I thought Kdrama's were supposed to pretend like criminal's couldn't possibly obtain a gun in Korea. Clearly our random criminal is at least a level 3 criminal :) It's always a good idea to make someone see their own funeral to realize how their life impacted others. However he's starting to lose himself thinking that he was the detective when that's not who he really is. So then they had to hit him with his actual funeral in the following episode. Him being in the person who started this whole cycle is kind of poetic. But I thought killing himself was against the rules and the game would end and he'd go straight to hell. I guess running out in front of moving traffic isn't considered suicide since technically Heesung got him? The most important part of this life was showing that it was within death's power to place him back in time since all of the previous lives were in chronological order. I was really shocked that when talking to death these couple of last lives he still didn't understand that he shouldn't have done it and how many people around him he hurt and the life he could have lived with his family. Death forcing him to live as his own mother was real depressing and the most fitting punishment. By the end of this I totally forgot that the original premise was for him to die of natural causes. There's nobody that he would have fought to keep alive more than his mother. With his mom falling down the mountain I was like it's a popular hiking trail. He just needs to get back to the trail and someone will find him in the morning. That time jump at the end. He lived longer in his mom's body than his own. Again that's really poetic. I wish we'd gotten more scene's with death over the course of this show. Maybe have her appear more often while he's living his lives. It made sense that he had been wanting to see her again and to her it was barely noticeable. I'm really glad that God gave him the opportunity to reload from his last checkpoint but I have lots of questions. Heesung is back on the loose. Is he still going to runover his girlfriend with his car or are we supposed to assume that she wouldn't have been walking home from that cafe if our main character was still alive. Heesung and the artist are going to keep on killing if they aren't stopped. And Sangtae is going to continue being a coward detective so does that mean that the junior detective is going to get shot by that level 3 criminal? Are all of our Alchemy of Souls cast going to be okay(the bully, the mma fighter, and the girlfriend)? Without our main character living as the high schooler who was bullied is he going to commit suicide and then start the cycle over again and live one of his 13 lives as our main character? I would have appreciated an epilogue where our main character tries to intervene and save some of those other people. Maybe a season 2 of him doing that could have worked. Thank you for sharing so much over the course of this show. I never expected to want to share what I've been going through in these comments but you've made your patreon community such a warm and welcoming environment. I always love reading everyone's comments to each episode of all the shows I watch on this patreon. Also I heard that I've been approved to get onto the transplant list. They're currently checking with my insurance but I should get added to the list soon.

I went to that dark place too. I won't put details, so it doesn't trigger anyone. But, it's a strange place to be in to have those thoughts and yet still want to find the light. I think some people just go to an even darker place and can't find the light. :( ::hugs::

- my opinion on the end death or god gave him a second chance. but is it the same for the other incarnations he had and the people he killed? because in this case Tae-su is probably still alive as well as the serial killer. I think that life and death take back their rights and the people who were supposed to die at the hands of Tae-su will finally die, just as the teenager that Yee-jae played will probably survive but will continue to be bullied, the inspector will probably also survive, as well as the homeless man. the baby will still die as well as the MMA fighter and Tae-su's brother.

-yes Death game like Mouse are not very well-known shows Death game is still on Netflix but to see certain gems like Mouse you have to have the Korean channels or be very aware of the shows that are broadcast in South Korea. these 2 shows are a little underrated compared to Glory indeed but they still have their popularity with a certain niche of spectators - yes the actress who plays Seul-gi is the same as in Glory. this kid is very popular among child actors. - even if he made a selfless gesture to save the life of his partner in episode 7 Yee-jae still hasn't understood at this time that death is not worth it that he commit suicide. even to save someone's life. only god must decide who should live and who should die even if it may seem unfair. this message has a strong resonance here in Korea because many suicides are done under the excuse of saving someone or saving their honor, saving their family or saving face. the message is simple DON'T SACRIFICE YOUR LIFE. - one of the questions I asked myself at the time of the show was is Yee-jae as Ji-hyeong responsible for his death? Ji-hyeong was a coward who preserved his life before. but Yee-jay who has nothing to lose and who reincarnates several times has in some way played with Ji-hyeong's life this death was not necessarily written that's why death is irritated. Yee-jae certainly thought about saving someone's life but he sacrificed another life for that. a life that was not his - yes this show is incredible death planned everything so that the loop is closed he is in some way responsible for his own death because by not respecting the life of the businessman he sent a car to without the slightest reason he caused his own death by provoking the cycle that led him to suicide. this writing is brilliant. - death is cruel but I think she played this card as a last resort, she would have very well stank him embodied in his mother from the beginning and I think he would have understood the lesson. - this show should be broadcast in all Korean schools from the 6th grade for educational and preventive purposes against suicide. - this last episode is sad, depressing and moving. - by living his mother's life Yee-jae finally understands how weak and heartless he was to abandon his life after having simply known a few hazards of life. losing your job or being evicted is never a good experience but millions of people in the world go through this kind of moment and without doing very well. yee-jae could have gone back to live with his mother, she took out an account with 35 million won for him through his hard work, he literally sacrificed his life for nothing. this scene goes by a little quickly but it is very important -for my part I am not like you on this point Daniel I do not understand suicide whatever things you have gone through in your life there is always a way that things will work out, but on the other hand I understand suicide if it is rather turned in the way of a sacrifice, I could give my life for my daughter, or for the people I love if there is no other way to save them. but a suicide by abandonment I do not understand it. there are also certain circumstances that could be understandable. if for example I am in captivity and I am tortured could I commit suicide?? probably but only if I know that in any case I will die but in even more painful conditions in this case can we call that suicide?? I don't think so - I have a somewhat obvious message that could seem stupid but for me it is important. for those who have dark thoughts who think that life is hard, or unfair to them, for those who think that they are alone, or that they have no friends, for those who think they are useless, or who think that they are nothing. think that life turns there are always opportunities to seize, there are good people who will want to help you, there are people who love you or who will love you in the future. life is a permanent fight sometimes everything goes well and sometimes everything collapses. but there is always hope, death brings nothing, think of you but also of your loved ones, all those like Daniel or me who have known suicide in their entourage will tell you the same thing, your life is precious, life in general is precious, don't waste it.
