MAMA 2024 REACTION

Oh, I'm back on this MAMA again. It was so damn iconic. Did you notice how smoothly Joshua fixed his stage problem when SVT performed by the way? Between Maestro and Ash, his pants ripped. How did he solve it? By swiftly taking his jacket off and tie it around his hips. Mid-performance! Just another sign of how professional these boys are by now. 🫰🏻

Man, when GD and BB comes up... I've been a huge fan for like 12 years or so, and when they split up I was heartbroken. This is one of the first performances I checked in 7 years and I was in tears when I saw this. Like, a hands down ugly-crying kind of messy tears. And when they sneaked in T.O.P's voice in the "Still Alive" part of Home Sweet Home, it got even worse. Man, I am so happy to see the boys back together again, smiling with their entire bodies! Ah, I'm so sentimental. They were the ones who got me into Kpop to begin with!

Emelié

If you diving into BB, search "Dorian Gray bigbang" on yt. Its a bigbang fan channel that puts eng subs on their live performances. Many VIPs camp out there.

Fan Xian

Soyeon rap obviously aimed at haters. Can’t believe there’re ppl out there criticising her being disrespectful to Soojin. That’s just ridiculous.

Chris Tan

The whole SWF and SMF are their backup dancers. As crazy as normal.

Phạm Thế Đạt

When BB on the stage, there are only two types of people there. BB themselves and fans. No mater who you are. The most equality I ever seen in my life.

Phạm Thế Đạt

the whole SWF and SMF are their backup dancer. Back in 2013-2016 was the Royal Family which was huge dance group.

Phạm Thế Đạt

After BB left MAMA in 2015, there is no one can do it the same. You can watch 2015 MAMA stage, the stadium was shacked right at the first note of BBB. This time they learned so they use drones. And BB songs are kpop anthem.

Phạm Thế Đạt

Just here for Bigbang (gen 2 kpop fan here): - MNET uploaded some reaction vids for this segment, and it was hilarious because on one hand you see SEVENTEEN and ZB1 partying like there's no tomorrow during Bang Bang Bang + Fantasic Baby, and on the other hand Dex (the guy in full black on the second row beside (G)I-DLE) stood absolutely still throughout the entire performance because he was in complete shock (he's a Bigbang fan and this is technically his first time seeing them live). There is a screenshot of him putting his hands in a prayer throughout the performance that went viral 😂 - Bada Lee (BEBE from SWF2) is in this performance! You can spot her in Home Sweet Home (: and as usual the Kwon Twins (YGX from SMF) performed with them for the Bigbang segment as well. GD also received a special award called Music Visionary of the Year in MAMA 2024 and during his acceptance speech he made a reference to the diss rap he performed in MAMA 2014 where he said "It's been a while MAMA, you're giving out big awards, just incase the kids fight so you're kindly giving them out like this." People joked that MAMA took the L just to let him come back to perform again 🤣

O shit it's already up. Why did I assume it would be towards the end of the week 😅 Is there a specific reason why you never continued to react to ILLIT after their debut or is that just something that happened to get lost in the endless sea of kpop releases? YOUNG POSSE - MAMA on such a tiny stage in LA just feels wrong to me 😅 I mean, yes, this is the same venue where they give out the Oscars every year but MAMA is the kind of event that needs to be held in a huge stadium with insane stage production and tens of thousands of people in the audience. This feels a bit quaint in comparison. - Sunhye is so awesome. No doubt she will one day be considered one of the greatest kpop rappers of all time. - Definitely not their first big stage. They've been at festivals like Head in the Clouds in NYC and many others in Korea. Plus they finished their first US Tour just before MAMA. Young Posse have only been around for a year but they gathered quite a lot of stage experience in that time already. And it shows! RIIZE - Ah, Riize just makes me sad these days. The way Seunghan was bullied and harrassed out of the group by a bunch of lunatics and SM did fucking NOTHING to protect him. In fact, they seem to have their priorities completely backwards. Cracking down on the OT7 protestors in LA, even going as far as banning the number 7 and the colour orange. Seriously. And SM thinks they can fob us off with a solo debut for Seunghan. NO. That is not what we want. That is not what the other 6 members of Riize want. All of us want Riize to be together as 7. Fuck these lunatics. I can't believe SM is really giving in to the demands of an insane minority that sends funeral wreaths and death threats because an idol just happened to have a girlfriend and smoked a cigarette several years before debut. I don't just feel bad for Seunghan but for the other members as well. SM has now now cultivated a fanbase that thinks they can control Riize through threats and bullying. And Riize have to go on stage, smiling and performing, pretending that everything is okay in front of „fans“ that will rip them into pieces as soon as they find something mildly disagreeable. Do they even WANT to perform in front of „fans“ like that? I know I wouldn't. At least the audience in LA seems to be mostly OT7 supportive. And I'm glad that Anton acknowledged the situation in his speech, however vague it may have been. It was probably the most he was able to say without getting in trouble Anyway, cool cover of Kick It. - This intro video feel so bittersweet :/ - But in spite of everything, I can never get over THAT move in Boom Boom Bass, holy Jesus. I was kinda hoping you'd also react to JYP's performance. It was really fun, even if not always in the way he probably intended 😂 YEONJUN - Can this AI bullshit trend just fuck off already? Hire actual artists instead of getting an algorithm to steal from them! This AI generated song doesn't even sound good. - Just to make it clear, I'm talking about that intro video, not Yeonjun's actual stage performance. - Blur is itself a band name. Fronted by Damon Albarn who also created Gorillaz. - Now THIS is a MAMA stage! - Yes, MAMA was a 3 day event this year. Day 1 was in LA and days 2 and 3 were in Osaka. - Yeonjun's presence is something else. - But as awesome as all of this is, this shows that Ggum is not really a song that is fit to be performed live. With all the crazy ways his voice is edited, he can't even sing/rap half of the thing live 😅 BOYNEXTDOOR - This is your first time seeing a live performance from them, yes. They were at all the Award shows you reacted to last year but you skipped their performances every time. - Real gentlemen's club going on here. - Earth, Wind & Fire is so much fun. Especially that super fast almost gibberish part haha TOENZE - They're doing a cover of Left-hander by Korean rock band Panic. The song originally came out in 1995. - Oh yeah, they can really play! Lee Young Ji - I don't really know who E Jiah is and I need to change that. - PLAVE is a virtual idol group. The boys are all real people, nothing AI generated going on here. It's just that rather than going on stage themselves, they use these virtual avatars and mocap suits to bring them to life. All the singing and dancing is real. I don't know if it's actually done completely live in the moment. There are some people who don't like this whole concept but I don't really see an issue with it. It allows them to sing and perform while also maintaining complete privacy. They're basically vtubers that sing and dance too. Some people claim that virtual groups are going to replace real idols but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Plave the only really successful virtual kpop group active right now anyway. MAVE doesn't really do much these days and all the others are very small and niche. Plus, Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku have been around for decades and they haven't replaced „real“ musicians either. - I will say, Plave's live stages are a bit funny. The actual stage itself is empty and all the action is only happening on the screens - And Plave are REALLY good singers. Think of the concept what you will, you can't deny that the music itself is just damn good. - Small Girl is a cute song but I prefer Youngji's more intense stuff. IVE - What the fuck is this AI generated mess? It looks fucking atrocious. I can't even tell who's supposed to be who. - The performance is awesome but their mics are TOO DAMN QUIET. Turn it up, I can barely hear their voices! - Woodkid – Run Boy Run Interlude! I love this so much. - At the IVE concert back in June there was something me and my friends like to call the „Heya Jumpscare“. You know how they have music playing in the background at low volume while people are coming into the concert venue? The last song they played before the concert actually started was Heya. Only, as soon as the chorus hit, they quintupled the volume and blasted HEYA HEYA HEYA into our ears without warning That was quite the moment 😄 - And btw, ever since that concert, I share your Yujin obsession 100%. - Epic. So damn epic. ENHYPEN - Nah Daniel, AI could NEVER produce something as beautiful as Jungwon. - What am I even supposed to say about this? They brought the Heat back. They already said it perfectly themselves and there's nothing more to add to that. - Jay in that coat is not good for my psyche. - THE FUCKING DANCE INTERLUDE WHAT - And Bada Lee joining the action, they really went all out. - Daydream is a b-side that was released with No Doubt. And it's a complete ASMR attack. TREASURE - Rap line coming in hot! - KING KONG IS SO HYPE I AM GOING TO THROW MY CHAIR ACROSS THE ROOM - This is my favourite performance from the first day in Japan. This energy is fucking unmatched. TXT - What in the Phantom of the Rock Opera is going on - Sadly Soobin was absent due to illness. - “a grown ass adult crushing on various idols” mate, that's just been my life these past four years. - I don't know when or why Hybe became allergic to bridges but I share your frustration 100%. Over The Moon had the potential to be exceptional but this is a MAJOR omission. ROSÉ & Bruno Mars - I'm so mad about this. Why did they only show a prerecorded performance from a random tiny club somewhere completely different? BOTH ROSÉ AND BRUNO WERE THERE IN OSAKA. IN PERSON. They have NO excuse to not perform APT live right there. I mean, the club performance looks fun but doing it like this at MAMA is just not it, man. Do they think they're too good to actually perform there or what? - One of my friends was actually there in the audience in Japan. Everyone there was super excited to hear APT live. But when they saw that they were only showing a prerecorded video, the disappointment was huge. The arena was silent. No hype whatsoever. BIBI - You just gotta admire her versatility. This is the woman that made songs like Kazino, Animal Farm, BIBI Vengeance, and now she's here being a Disney princess. MEOVV - I'm still not huge on the debut song but I can't deny that they're really good performers. ZEROBASEONE - That intro! What a way to set the atmosphere. - Kill the Romeo is such a cvnty song. - ZB1 called their album Cinema Paradise and said “that's EXACTLY what the people are going to get at MAMA” 👉🏻👉🏻 (G)I-DLE - Soyeon just straight up mentioning Soojin in her rap verse. Queen. - The scale of the performance is massive but I gotta be honest: this remix of Super Lady doesn't hit as hard as the original. - But there is FORCE behind their voices! Love it. - And the way they turned Fate into a super dope rock song befitting of a stage this huge. G-DRAGON / BIGBANG - So in my four years of being a kpop fan, I never really went out of my way to properly check out Bigbang. Of course there are songs I know because I go to kpop parties and Bang Bang Bang is a mainstay there. But the history surrounding one particular former member has always deterred me from really getting into them. My thinking was something among the lines of “do I really want to listen to music made with the involvement of a human trafficker?” But now with the return of G-Dragon and all the hype surrounding him and the reunion of Bigbang as a trio, I say screw it. That one fucker is long gone from Bigbang, I'm not gonna let him prevent me from enjoying these absolute legends of kpop! So I've started my journey into Bigbang a few days ago, watching all the MVs in chronological order and then also listening to all the albums. It's gonna be a long ride but I'm here for it! - Fun fact: only GD himself was actually announced to perform at MAMA. There were some rumors but no one actually knew that Taeyang and Daesung would be there as well. It was a complete surprise. And holy shit, the reactions. The impact! People in that stadium were FREAKING OUT. Even I, as someone who isn't really that familiar with Bigbang, got goosebumps here. That is the POWER of BIGBANG. - This reunion is so big that Mnet uploaded four entire videos that are just the reactions from the other artists to this performance. When huge artists like Seventeen and aespa are losing their fucking minds at this, you know you're dealing with immortal legends of the genre. - The absolute anthem that is Bang Bang Bang. People already go crazy when the DJ plays it at a party, I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to be there in Osaka, realising that you're about to hear the original artists perform it live. - And even though he might not be in the group anymore, I like that they left T.O.P's voice in the track. BIGB4NG forever! - I think it goes without saying but this is the best performance of MAMA 2024. I actually feel a bit sorry for aespa and Seventeen for having been made to perform after this because how the fuck do you even follow up on the REUNION OF BIGBANG? aespa - Yeah that glitchy effect on Karina really didn't need to be there. You're not the only one I've seen complain about this. - SUPERNOVA SONG OF THE YEAR - The remix goes crazy. - I'm gonna die in March, aren't I? - If not Supernova, then Whiplash is definitely gonna be the end of me. Jesus fucking Christ. - Do women in Korea also have to enlist now or why did they serve so much? SEVENTEEN - Maestro was MADE for a stage like this. - Ash is actually over two years old already. It's a b-side from Face The Sun. The title track on that album was HOT. - I cannot stop replaying Vernon's part in Ash. - This performance even almost managed to make me like Love Money Fame. Almost. Last year was really rough but I'm so happy that MAMA this year was actually good. Amazing even! I don't really have any major issues with the camera work either. Ranking these 27(!) performances seems a bit foolish but imma try anyway. This is a very quick improvised ranking and I will not elaborate further on any of these: 1. BIGBANG 2. aespa 3. TREASURE 4. IVE 5. ZEROBASEONE 6. ENHYPEN 7. SEVENTEEN 8. (G)I-DLE 9. BOYNEXTDOOR 10. YOUNG POSSE 11. izna 12. TXT 13. RIIZE 14. KATSEYE 15. ILLIT 16. J.Y. Park 17. ME:I 18. YEONJUN 19. TOENZE 20. INI 21. Lee Young Ji 22. BIBI 23. MEOVV 24. ROSÉ & Bruno Mars 25. TWS 26. PLAVE 27. Byeon Woo Seok And as always, I have created Spotify playlists for all three days. Day 1 in LA: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/42M7FUN1ViYncAHVjCjfXq Day 2 in Osaka: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zbTgkt5M0yHGij2eUvPb Day 3 in Osaka: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/02lIZgA5Y2SWIWndX1DOlm

- Young Posse really ate that 😏 Very proud of them. Yeah, I think this is their first big stage. And already appearing within the crowd, doing a freestyle, live vocals, and succesfully hyping up the crowd 👌👌 - What if Yeonjun did a collab with Jessi, since they both have "gum" songs? 😅 Could be great (even though I'm not really a fan of either song). - Yes, day 1 was US, day 2 and 3 were Japan. The Japan stage was indeed MUCH bigger. APT was precorded at a smaller separate stage. - I liked the first part of BOYNEXTDOOR's performance. With the car, the bar and the colored suits. - I also liked IVE's deep red outfits, and Yujin's high note. Performance was nothing too special. - Yeah, ENHYPEN was great 👍🏻 Not my fav songs, but they killed them anyway. - TREASURE's performance was ok. Nothing too special, but their energy really was amazing! Also liked their crowd interaction. - Even though TXT did great (they have done better though) I kinda missed Soobin, especially in all the formations. He had to take care of his health shortly before MAMA 😔 - Yeah, it's always a bit unexpected to see BIBI do a happy, smiley performance like that. I always have that feeling that she could snap at any time 😅 - Nothing against the girls of MEOVV (or BabyMonster) but personally I've grown a little tired of Teddy's style of songs, which made it hard for me to enjoy their performance. - Soyeon looked great with the bob. And she was a boss with all those mics, but I wished her stage was a little more elevated because all the dancers were kinda blocking her a bit. - I don't know how I feel about the dancers. I do like that there were A LOT, but mostly (G)I-dle were just standing in front of them. Like, quite disconnected. Plus, their choreo was very simple. Most of the time they were in the same formation as well (like, just a block of people). But, with the camera in front, they did make for a cool background. - BIGBANG. "Everybody stopped being idols, and just being fans". Well said 👍🏻 - The camerawork in Japan was fine imo. The camerawork in the US sucked imo.

crispy chicken

i know but for them it's not that much . this year many people think than they can win big awards like ,Song of the year ,Girl group of the year or even album of the year . the fan choice awards is a shared prize because 10 artists or groups can win it each year it is just a popularity prize it proves that the groups who won it are among the groups who are the most popular in 2024. frankly I expected at least the prize for best girl group

fabrice maire

(G)I-DLE did win something. Fan's choice award and best vocal performance group for Fate

Vernon

part 2 of my reaction -(G)IDLE I am shocked that this group did not win any prize at MAMA given the crazy year they had. but hey at least they participated in the show which is not the case for LESSERAFIM, a big absentee from MAMA 2024 for many (G)IDLE and LESSERAFIM would have deserved more success this year. that being said once again incredible performance, Soyeon's intro was perfect I expected nothing less from her. the performance was incredible and the girls were absolutely beautiful and stunning, and pretty and sexy and cool and charismatic and I love them did I say I loved them. - GD and BIG BANG it was so unexpected to see them again in a big event like that with all the problems that the group has gone through these last 5/6 years it's nice to see them at the top again. especially so that new kpop fans can discover them and understand how much this group was the leader among boy groups for years. -AESPA the big winners of this year they leave with no less than 5 trophies including a Daesang. Fully deserved because if they had been a little absent in 2023 they were very present in 2024 with no less than 4 comebacks and 7 MV's, WIPLASH is my favorite song from AESPA this year this song is super addictive, like APT by Rosé. great intro very impressive on the other hand not a fan of the effect a little glitchy at the beginning of their perf it burns my eyes. otherwise very cool. -SEVENTEEN the bosses frankly I am amazed at each of their performances they dare so much in their performance that it becomes exhilarating.

fabrice maire

def check out the translation for soyeon’s opening rap, lol RIP CUBE 🥳

Marii

2:17:24 Omg was it Bada dancing besides G-Dragon?

Petite Française

That shows what a man GD is ,thanking YG😲 Those who turned the back on him in that Scandal after what he did for the Company 17 years long👏👏Thats greatness

Sascha Walter

I liked how you mentioned for a certain part in power this was a giant f u to a lot of people, media, and mnet when like 30 minutes later GD received an award and dissed Mnet in his speech again. Mnet just released 4 reactions videos for the idols during BigBang performance and I’ve never seen Woozi this reactive to a performance before and the screams were insane, you should check it out.

♡Rina♡

They all knew to play these instruments before this performance. Jay even played the guitar in their concerts and Kai knows to play a couple more instruments perfectly. Beomgyu is taught himself the guitar and bass and Yujin also plays piano since before debut. Maybe sometime along the line you should do a guide to the boygroups too, not just girl groups.

Beppeli

I keep hoping my babies ILLIT will make it to someone's reaction list. :(

Candice Blair

Loveeeee txt 🩵🩵

Alexa Fernanda

If I end up checking them out in the future I will react tot their MAMA Stage as well :)

Daniel Goland

Fun fact : hoshi (seventeen) went to tarot this year to ask if g-dragon would have an ALBUM/ STAGE PERFORMANCE and now he’s on the same show as g-dragon. I love V.I.P seventeen

Yuli

& katseye best girl group performance (I’m not fan but they’re good)

Yuli

Big bang legends for real my fav performance (not just this year) And treasure 2nd best performance so proud of them!!🥹
