Produce 48 Episode 5 - REACTION

Produce 48 Episode 5 - REACTION

Comments

Have to be honest, I always struggle to get through these ranking episodes. I already know the final line-up, so there's not much suspense for me. This one was kind of fun though, the little segments in between were very entertaining, so good job Mnet (you have no idea how much I hate saying this, but I have to give credit where it's due. But honestly I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this. This is my first time watching PD48, and I always assumed it would be much more dramatic and 'evil edited' than it actually is. It seems to me that Mnet really started pushing the drama after the rigging was exposed, like Queendom 2 + Puzzle and GP999 were basically unbearable (I quit watching GP999 halfway through, and both of those Queendom seasons felt like an absolute slog.) However these shows are also kind of sad in retrospect. All of these trainees, for so many of them Produce ends up being the high-point in their career. Like Haeyoon's group just disbanded and Juri left Rocket Punch, and others just don't end up really doing anything after the show. On a brighter note, it is actually kind of fun. At 1.25 speed, the talking segments don't feel that rushed, but whenever they cut to a few seconds of performance you really notice how much faster it is lol I never really checked out IZ*One much, so I'm looking forward to the spotlight! Should be fun!

So, here's the update on the eliminated trainees from this episode: #59: Nanako Ikumi returned to AKB48 and even choreographed the song Fortune Cherry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJd5LiCt6_g She graduated from AKB48 in May 2019 and has just been occasionally posting on Instagram since then: https://www.instagram.com/ikumin193_888 #60: Hwang Soyeon left her original label and signed with MNH (Chungha's label back then) in August 2018. However, by April 2021 she had left MNH again since she was seen in a dance video of a group called HOWZ. They never ended up debuting. Soyeon's Instagram shows her working as a backup dancer on IU's world tour right now: https://www.instagram.com/sy_soluvely (which means, I'll technically see her in a month) and from her bio it also looks like she might be attending some kind of drama school. #61: Shin Suhyun left her label and signed with Sublime Artist Agency as an actress. She made her acting debut in November 2019 in the drama “Woman of 9.9 Billion”. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/xinsooo #62: Kang Damin hopped around a few companies before eventually ending up at Big Mountain Entertainment where she would debut in October 2022 as a member of Queenz Eye with the debut song Yummy Yummy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0pGnRX1mb8 #63: Mogi Shinobu returned to AKB48 where she continued to be active until her graduation in January of this year. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_mogi_shinobu_ #64: Oda Erina returned to AKB48 until her graduation just about a month ago. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/odenchannn #65: Yoon Eunbin has completely left the entertainment industry. Last year she graduated from Sejeong High School with a degree in Food Services and Culinary Arts. #66: Choi Yeonsoo is working as a model: https://www.instagram.com/ysdp0715 And she also opened a Youtube channel for vlogs: https://www.youtube.com/@eunsuyeonsoo #67: Matsuoka Natsumi returned to HKT48 where she would continue as the captain of Team H until she graduated in September 2022. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/natsustagram_hkt #68: Park Chanju was teased to debut in a group with Lee Chaejeong and Park Minji in 2019. However, that debut fell through and she terminated her contract with her company. She got married in 2022 and gave birth to a son about one year ago. It's pretty safe to assume that she has left the entertainment industry. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chan_xuuu #69: Park Jinny made her debut as a member of SECRET NUMBER in May 2020. And I'm gonna take this opportunity to plug my favourite song of theirs, Got That Boom! And you haven't heard it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljdwsoYTq7I Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/impinkprincessjinny #70: Kim Dayeon hopped around a few companies until she ended up at Jellyfish Entertainment (where Sejeong is as well). She participated in Girls Planet 999 and you know the rest 😄 #71: Hasegawa Rena graduated from NGT48 in May 2019. But the exact reason for this is quite complicated. I'm gonna try my best to summarize. Basically: In December 2018 NGT48 member Yamaguchi Maho was assaulted by two men who entered her apartment. It was alleged that her adress was leaked by other members of the group. She brought up the issue to the group's management but was apparently largely ignored until she made it public in a livestream in January 2019. Well, management forced her to apologize for making those allegations and Hasegawa Rena was having none of it. She removed the NGT48 tag from all her socials and when Yamaguchi Maho left the group, Rena joined in leaving with her in solidarity. This is a gross oversimplification of this case. There's a lot more to it and you can read up on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_of_Maho_Yamaguchi Rena has since pursued a career in voice acting. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbg_rena0315 #72: Cho Ahyeong signed with FNC Entertainment and participated in the survival show CAP-TEEN in 2020, where she ranked 4th. This didn't net her a win though because only first place got a contract to debut as a soloist. These days Ahyeong only posts occasionally on her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bunohv #73: Lee Seunghyeon was once slated to debut in WM's new girl group Ggumnamu (which also included Lee Chaeyeon). However, since everyone except Lee Chaeyeon left WM in 2021, they never debuted. Seunghyeon herself would quickly find a new home, though, and debuted in January 2022 as a member of H1-KEY, now going by the stage name Riina. You would mostly know her from Queendom Puzzle. Their debut song is Athletic Girl and let's just say, it absolutely dominated my life at the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imUUYMi2FXw #74: Kato Yuuka returned to NMB48 until her graduation in August 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uuka_nmb #75: Kim Dahye's current status is unknown. #76: Imada Mina returned to AKB48 until her graduation in April 2022, after which she went to Korea to study abroad. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_minaimd.j_ #77: Nagano Serika returned to AKB48 where she continues to be active to this day. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iroziro_serika #78: Hong Yeji hopped around a few companies before eventually shifting careers towards acting. In May 2021 she was cast for the lead role in the film 2037, which released in June 2022. This marks her offical debut as an actress. #79: Lee Chaejeong had this group that never debuted with Park Minji and Park Chanju as I already mentioned above. Chaejeong would eventually make her debut when she joined ELRIS in February 2020 as a new member for their comeback Jackpot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPAIlZM1VUU And then their company Hunus Entertainment continued to not do shit with Elris for almost two years. Until they finally transferred over to IOK Company at the end of 2021. They rebranded to ALICE and came back with new music in October 2022. However, this wouldn't really last long. ALICE only got one more comeback in April 2023 and then it got silent around them again. Just about a month ago, ALICE member Sohee announced her retirement from the entertainment industry and that she would be getting married to a non-celebrity businessman. Here's the thing: as soon as she posted that letter, we all knew that ALICE was done for. Sohee was the most popular member and it's not even close. She has three times the Instagram followers as all of the six other members plus the group account COMBINED. Sohee hard carried the popularity of the group. And I get it, she is STUPIDLY attractive. But it still wasn't enough for her and her group to really get any kind of breakthrough. Sohee had everything she needed to be the next It Girl but luck just wasn't on her side. After 7 years of trying, she was probably just tired of it and I can't blame her. Without Sohee, ALICE could not survive at all. And it didn't take too long for the other four original members to also announce their contracts ending. As for Chaejeong, she was one of the two new members who joined later in 2020. Those two are technically still in the group but let's be real, ALICE is effectively disbanded. It remains to be seen what Chaejeong does going forward. In any case, here's her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chaerishxx #80: Park Jieun made her debut as the oldest member of PURPLE KISS, starting with the group's first predebut song My Heart Skip a Beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV9yAHvHfrc (and I'll be honest, when that song came out, I thought Purple Kiss would be much closer in sound to Dreamcatcher than they ultimately ended up being) Jieun left Purple Kiss in November 2022 after their Nerdy comeback. She was diagnosed with anxiety and poor physical condition and needed rest. She remains signed with RBW but isn't active at this time. #81: Ichikawa Manami returned to AKB48 until her graduation in August 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/0826manami #82: Alex Christine made her official debut as AleXa in October 2019 with the song Bomb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OjCMR8DGLg You know, it's kinda funny how so far you've only seen her slower stuff when in fact she's more known for high energy songs with strong choreographies and a scifi concept. It's very cyberpunk. You really ought to check out Revolution one of these days! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alexa_zbofficial #83: Kurihara Sae returned to HKT48 where she continues to be active to this day. She has the center position in the song Otona Ressha wa Doko wo Hashitteru no ka?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLONminDxsQ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hkt48_saekurihara #84: Cho Yeongin was in the lineup for WM's group Ggumnamu but as I already mentioned, almost everyone ended up leaving the company, including Yeongin. Nothing else is known about her beyond that. #85: Asai Yuka returned to SKE48 where she continues to be active to this day. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yuka1110_ #86: Ahn Yewon has been focusing on her modelling career under the stage name Go Yijin: https://www.instagram.com/goyijin_ She also opened a Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@goyijin #87: Naiki Kokoro returned to NMB48 until her graduation in August 2019. After that she started training and working as a musical actress. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cocoro_naiki/ #88: Kim Yubin made her debut in November 2020 as a member of Bling Bling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzUY4Kzh8PA Unfortunately, they quickly disbanded, only ever getting one comeback in May 2021. Yubin herself stayed signed to her company as an actress. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/i_you_bin #89: Cho Sarang's current status is unknown. #90: Choi Soeun made her acting debut in 2022, starring in the daily drama The Love in Your Eyes. #91: Shinozaki Ayana returned to AKB48 until her graduation in February of this year. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ayana.s_official #92: Won Seoyeon seemingly has been focusing on her studies of Vocal Arts at Howon University. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/seoyo_me left the show: Tanaka Miku returned to HKT48 until her graduation in December 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mikumonmon_48 left the show: Tsukiashi Amane returned to HKT48 until her graduation in March 2020. In April 2022 she debuted in a new Jpop group called Fruits Zipper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQUo3vITjgY Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/am1026_official left the show: Umeyama Cocona returned to NMB48 until her graduation in April 2022. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cocona_umeyama left the show: Uemura Azusa withdrew from NMB48 in December 2018. She did it so suddenly that she didn't get a proper graduation. Apparently she wanted to pursue a dream of being a full time Youtuber. Well, going by the comments and the dislike ratio on her channel, plus the fact that she only ever uploaded six videos in five years, it hasn't really worked out that well: https://www.youtube.com/@nyanazu_o2o4 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nyanazu_o2o4

We're already reacting to a survival show, there will be a poll after P48 and hopefully ILAND gets the win :)

Daniel Goland

React to ILAND2 😭

Luez

Absolutely, we did talk about doing a spotlight for IZ*ONE in the first episode after we're done (I think), similar to I.O.I :)

- Always really nice to see this kind of pep talk from the MC. Especially from him who used to be in that situation. - When is Everglow coming back? JUNE 10TH, THAT'S WHEN EVERGLOW IS COMING BACK HELL YEAH - Oh my god the height difference between Nako and Riina 🥺 150 vs 172 cm - AleXa's full name is Alexaundra Christine Schneiderman. She was born in Oklahoma to a Russian American father and Korean mother who was adopted into an American family when she was a kid. So Alexa is honestly way more American than she is Korean. Which is part of the reason why she got so little screen time here. She could barely speak any Korean at all. But of course she's fluent now and she also released a new song today. - Why are they always so shocked to see Lee Seunggi? Like, who else would it possibly even be? 😅 - Miru was 20 at the time of this show. Born October 14, 1997. - Oh my god the Grinch video - I listened to Skrillex's Recess for the first time a little while ago and boy was I surprised to see a collab with G-Dragon and CL on that album. - Jeez, this game is so much harder when half of them barely even speak Korean 😅 - Having seen Yiren irl a few months ago, I can say from personal experience, she doesn't look human. A real human being cannot be this pretty. Like, holy shit. But the crazy thing is, Sihyeon was even more stunning. - Now this is finally a prank I can get behind. Just the trainees jumpscaring each other 😂 - Ah, Juri. She just shared yesterday that her contract with Woolim ended and I assume that also means she left Rocket Punch :/ - Hey, since you only have that one IZ*ONE reaction, this would also be a perfect opportunity to do another Spotlight episode after you're done with this show :D - And those health issues of Jurina were actually quite serious. While she did make 13th place here, she completely left the show after this to focus on her recovery. It's a shame that we won't get to see more of her. She was damn amazing and I'm sure she would have made the final cut into IZ*ONE at the end, had she been able to stay. - Not many thoughts on the rankings themselves, obviously I know the final lineup. Congrats to Kaeun on getting first place here! - As far as elimination episodes go, this one was actually surprisingly bearable. I will be back either later today or tomorrow with my usual updates on the eliminated trainees.

- Damn, the guy can sing! 👍 - I actually loved his story. It may not be the first time hearing such a story, but he told it very clearly and sincerely, without asking for sympathy or anything, just very informative. Great message 👍 - The people who can pop their joints are called "contortionists" if I'm not mistaken. Mamamoo and Hyeri can also dislocate their shoulders 😋 - That height difference between Nako (150cm) and Riina (172cm) 😂 - Great, unexpected dance/fun section with Somi and Chungha. - Shouting In Silence is always funny 😁 - Oh, that was an interesting comment by Juri, that with 100k votes you'd be #1 in Japan, while here you're 40th 🤔 - Lol, that tip for Choyeon to not open her eyes that much actually REALLY helped 😄 Instead of fire eyes she now looks cute and confident. I guess everybody has got something else to work on, right? But the most important thing is that she IS working on it 💪 - Yes, Chaewon is pretty, just don't do morning games with her 😋 - Holy shit! Alexa is really buff 😲 - I can see Doah looking a bit like Sohye. But I think Erii also looks (and acts) a bit like Sohye. - That makeup/comedy section was great! I also like that the girls themselves were allowed to do the pranking. - Will it be Gyuri or Yuri? It's Yuri. Followed by Juri, and then Gyuri. These names though...😅 Imagine a Daniel being followed by a Paniel and a Baniel or something. - Very under the radar, but I did notice quite a few Japanese trainees are doing their speech in Korean now. That's really amazing. - "I won't drag this any longer" -> continues to drag on for another 10 minutes 😴 - So in this episode we lost 😢: - Dayeon (Kep1er) - Riina (H1-Key) - Jieun (ex Purple Kiss) - Alexa

Yena's brother is Sungmin. He was in same group with Huh Chanmi (Season 1). The group disbanded because of other member's scandal (school bullying things).

공장man

Jurina was absent because of controversial scandal in Japan (not health issue, being rude to Sakura and other AKB members).

-1 Lee Kaeun as I said a few episodes ago I'm going to do a little piece on Kaeun. she hasn't had more screen time than that in the show since the beginning. but she is undoubtedly one of the most talented and caring girls on the show. Her journey is atypical. She began her career and made her debut in an ultra popular 2nd gen group After School at a time when After School was almost at the end of her career. in a way his career is similar to that of Youngji (Kara). Kaeun in Produce 48 was one of the oldest and most experienced girls on the Korean scene. During the 4 months of the show Kaeun only took care of the other girls and took care of their well-being, she knew that her career was at stake. but she put others before her. and she is never without bragging; she is both very charismatic and very discreet. she is a magnificent dancer and a good singer but above all a leader if Keun joins IZ*ONE the only position that would definitely suit him is the position of leader. so we can say that Sakura was the most determined girl of the season than Yujin and Wonyoung the most popular. Kaeun was the most respected, all the girls went to see her to receive advice. I would say that he is a more experienced version of Kwon Eunbi who also had very strong leadership.

- 28 Kim Chaewon now for us this ranking may seem too low but in reality at the time given the little screen time that Chaewon had compared to girls like Yena, Yiren, Moe or Sakura for example the ranking seems rather good . - 26 Goo Yoo-jin my gods she is beautiful and the crazy charisma she has for me at the time she was going to be in the end or even in the line up of the group. - 23 Lee sian another girl that I adore who I find pretty and talented - 22 Heo Yun-jin I saw her a little higher in the top 15 perhaps. - 20 Kim Shi-hyun incredible ranking for her as I think that no one paid attention to her during the first season seeing her in 20th place and now leader of Everglow tells me that everything is possible even if Everglow suffers from a problem obvious management which for me has ruined their careers they should be one of the top 3 girl groups of 4th gen as they were in their time. unfortunately this is no longer the case at all. everglow is making a comeback soon I hope it will be memorable. - 19 Jo yuri thin at the time I don't remember that she had such a low ranking I'm still more or less seen in the top 15 - 18 Takahashi Juri my god I was so happy I love her so much. - 17 Jang Gyuri ranking a little low I saw her in the top 12 at the time but her mistake on stage made her go down a little in the ranking. - 16 Shiroma Miru i'am in love she's so beautiful and I love her smile. now all the rest of the rankings are full of talented girls that I adore. - 15 Kim Minju one was surprised to see her so high because clearly she lacks skills in almost all areas but I was that she was ultra popular thanks to her beauty which was indeed often compared to Tzuyu -14 Yamada Noe the electric battery, the only Japanese woman who never looked anxious or stressed. the icing on the cake the most entertaining member of the whole show. - Yes DG I confirm if you want a chaotic room you have to put Yamada Noe, Lee youngji, An yujin, Kang Yena, Sua (Dc) in it at best you lose your ears and you end up bleeding at worst the house burns down. - TOP 12 - 12 Honda hitomi. very talented the best dancer among the Japanese, very charismatic and cute with peach cheeks -11 Takeushi Miyu very good vocalist one of the best Japanese place deserved. - 10 Lee Chaeyeon, a survival show regular, always very well placed but often fails in the queue. very well balanced idol, excellent dancer but also very good vocalist. -9 Choi Yena incredible idols, very complete, she dances, sings, raps, writes these songs, she is funny, charismatic and has a unique charm, our pretty little duck of kpop. DG if you want to know more about Yena and her brother watch Animal Detective Yena's show she does several episodes with her brother and they talk a little about their relationship. - 8 Wang Yiren the production really highlighted Yiren a lot since the first episode and at the time she was creating buzz in particular for her great beauty, one of the rare Chinese idols who was very popular in Korea with Cheng Xiao (WJSN) and before them Wang fei (Miss-A) - 7 our cutie Yabuki Nako frankly she is too adorable very beautiful voice very sweet. perfect for a group with cute concept. - 6 Goto Moe what a surprise Lol the production really put Moe on screen a lot she goes from the girl who couldn't sing because of a loss of voice and who ended up in class F to the girl ranked 6th and potentially in the final line-up. - 5 Kwon Eunbi another complete idol, very good dancer, singer and super charismatic, she has very good leadership and visually she is compared to Irene which is a huge complement. for me there was no doubt. -4 Miyawaki Sakura I also don't think that she is shown a negative aspect of herself but rather the combative and determined aspect. she is the pride of Japanese idols and the hardest worker for sure. well-deserved place. -3 Jang Wonyoung well I am very biased but there is no doubt about her talent. even if we remove the fact that she is one of the most beautiful idols I have ever seen she is still born for this profession and the work she provides in Ive amply proves this. good dancer, beautiful voice, song writer, stage presence, charisma she has it all. - 2 Year Yujin the yujin/wonyoung duo made me think of the Sejeong/mina duo from season 1 from the start and from the first episode I was completely behind them. Yujin is incredible I could write a whole lot to explain how talented she is and like Wonyoung Born to be an idol. but it is obvious to many people. at this level which number is 1, 2 or 12 does not matter -1 Lee Kaeun I'm going to make a post just for her.

fabrice maire

-you see DG that's what I said during the first or second episode. MNET or the cast of mentors are there to help and highlight the Japanese and Korean trainees to show the symbiosis between the trainees of the 2 countries. but before that it was necessary to show the reality of things and the shortcomings of the Japanese, the difference in culture, training methods, their states of mind, and their vision of what an idol is. and make them realize that being hard on them is for their own good. For MNET it is obvious that it was necessary to highlight their shortcomings in order to be able to show their evolution later. I'm perhaps too accustomed to this type of show but for me it's the best survival show on MNET to date. why, well I think it’s the show that is the most balanced. As for the difference between season 1 and season 3, it’s day and night. the production, the staging is all better balanced, the performances are longer, have several moments where we can see the training process of the girls and their dance classes, singing etc. their slice of life in the dormitory etc. - Yes at the time Soyou and the members of Sistar in general were popular for their perfect bodies Soyou, Hyolin, Bora and Dasom were very sporty and went to the gym very regularly. Soyou was even feared because she had incredible physical strength among female idols. she was beaten only once on TV by another female idol and it was our Kim Sejeong. -for the queen's dance battle of course the 3 best dancers of the season were Chaeyeon, Eunchae and Haeun but I found it very cool that he gave this (symbolic) title of dancing queen to Goto Moe. of course it's absolutely not important but it will further boost the confidence of the Japanese and particularly that of Moe who was very popular among Japanese idols she was in the top 5 at the time. and personally I liked her a lot seeing Jurina cried wanted everything she didn't even need to say why. seeing Moe and more generally Japanese idols more comfortable and confident was a big development and success. seeing that all the trainees also knew the choreography of the 3 key songs of each season by heart was very cool. even I know the choreography of the three “pick me songs” -yes we will have all the usual segments that we have in an elimination episode (dancing queen, the different rankings of the most beautiful, the most popular etc... and moments of relaxation or games.) I agree "shooting in silence is also one of my favorite games". -Ranking segment -57 Kim Su-yun I was very surprised to see her so low in the ranking. -54 Park Minji very happy for her because she was eliminated at this stage during season 1 and she is a very good singer. -52 Yoon Hae-sool very happy this girl is just too beautiful -47 Kim Cho-won spectacularly climbed from place 88 to 47 for her and she deserves it. being the leader of Team boombayah was a challenge, it remains one of the worst performances I have seen in a show, but Cho-won held on and made sure to unite several girls who had no desire to perform this song . -43 Park Hae-yoon frankly she deserves a much higher place in the top 30 in my humble opinion. she is one of the top 5 best vocalists of the show. - 41 Park Cho-yeo happy to see that she worked on it at the time, it's true that I was one of the people who found these facial expressions too strong and not natural enough. but in fact these expressions were actually too natural lol. -visual Center at the time for me the 11 most beautiful center of the show was Shi-hyun (Everglow), Yiren (Everglow, Yujin (Ive), Wonyoung (Ive), Shiroma Miru, Goto Moe, Sakura (Lesserafim), Kwon eunbi, Kim Chaewon (Lesserafim), Lee Kaeun, Go Yoo-jin. in real life many other girls are very beautiful I would need at least a top 20 with Heo yunjin, Murase Sae, Shitao Miu, Honda Hitomi, Kim Minju, Jo Yuri, Takahashi Juri, Jang Gyuri, Hae-sool - back to the ranking -40 Murase Sae for me it also deserves to be a little higher maybe 34 or 35 _ 38 Kim Nayoung honestly this girl is a joy, she is very bright and lovely. for me it is in the top 20 -35 Lee Ha-heun very happy for her despite her very young age at the time she was as good as Chungha and one of the best dancers in the show place deserved. - 34 Kim Do-ah deserved also she looks like Sohye for sure but a little prettier for me Sohye was above all very cute and adorable. - 32 Sohn Eun-chae well deserved top 3 best dancer, good vocalist and good attitude and good leadership. - 29 Na Goeun for me the best vocal hand of the show even if she did not have the opportunity to prove it often widely
