Produce 48 Episode 2 - REACTION

Produce 48 Episode 2 - REACTION

Comments

You're right in saying that there is a fine line between criticizing the performance vs attacking members but it is also tiresome to hear people justify the poor performance by blaming it on external circumstances. Blaming technical difficulties on the poor performance is just not it. Both the company and the members are at fault and instead of avoiding the issue or completely ignoring it, the company and the members should have taken the responsibility for it. They were not ready. They need more vocal training and yes, while there are many other groups who also lack vocally the point is not to compare or to put anyone down. Sakura has been an idol for over a decade and her main job is to perform, which includes signing. While yes, she has worked hard to keep up with the insane beauty standards, stage presence, dance ability and so on, the same effort should be put in her vocal abilities as well. The same criticism applies to the whole group and I am not diminishing their hard work as a group overall nor their busy schedules. At the end of the day, singing is the foundation of their job and as harsh as it sounds they need to figure out how to strengthen their weaknesses in this area. I'm not saying that they should all be amazing singers because each group brings something else to the table but their live performances are just not it.

Watching Miru struggling with the choreo and getting personal help from a Korean trainee. It's almost like I've seen this exact scene/storline with Yeeun in QP :) The members from Queendom Puzzle are Chaeyeon, Suyun, Juri, Miru, and Riina(she goes by her real name in this and I don't think I've seen her yet) I'm glad you eventually noticed Juri but Miru got just as much screen time this episode :) Alexa getting her only screen time this show as the "American" in group B :) She said that she spent more time with the Japanese trainees since she also couldn't speak Korean well and they spoke some English. I agree with the judges that Goto Moe had to get an F. This is an audition to be a singer and all of the other girls sang even if they were terrible. To reward someone for skipping the singing portion of the evaluation would be an insult to all of the girls that tried and failed to sing and got an F. If I was sick the day of a test and couldn't attend I would get an F not C but hopefully I would be allowed to retake the test when I'm better and that's how I feel about what happened here. Put her as an F for now since she didn't complete the evaluation knowing that in a few days when she's feeling better she'll get a re-evaluation. With Sakura I think her performance was B quality but they had to give her an A and I would have given her an A. She was the best of the Japanese trainees, she clearly has that start quality and charisma but most importantly for the morale of the entire Japanese half of the contestants. After getting dunked on by the judges all day they need someone to look up to and the hope that some of the Japanese trainees can succeed. Also since this show is made by mnet they had to do it for the storyline. BTW the RBW trainees are from Purple Kiss Go Eun and Ji Eun but Ji Eun has since left the group :( I really respect Sakura for doing the vocal lesson in Korean when I'm sure she would have performed better in Japanese. If I want to be a kpop idol I should seize this opportunity to get vocal lessons in Korean from the lead vocalist of Sistar. The thing that has always upset me about this show is that during the re-evaluation stages many of the Korean trainees didn't even try to sing a word of Japanese. The whole point of the show is to create a "Global" group that will promote in Korea and Japan. All of the Japanese trainees have flown to another country to learn and are singing in a foreign language and when the Koreans are asked to sing in Japanese they just refuse. The Pick Me song has a Japanese verse. You're going to have to sing it if you're going to perform the signal song. With the difference in culture my understanding is that AKB48 doesn't give their members any training. No vocal or dance lessons. Just pass the audition by acting cute and funny and then get thrown on stage. If they want lessons they would have to book their own lessons with a 3rd party. I don't know much about AKB48 but that's the impression I got from watching this show. Also with the B class dance training scene it's standard for the best dancers or the ones that memorize the choreo the fastest to learn and then teach the rest of the group but clearly that's not how the Japanese members were used to doing it. I've only ever gotten about halfway through this show multiple times. I'm looking forward to actually finishing it this time. I enjoyed the reaction as always and sorry for the essay :)

This episode showcases so much as to why I love and respect Sakura so much. Of course from an objective standpoint she's no Beyonce okay, but it's her honest self-reflection and the incredible amount of effort and love she puts into improving herself every single day, just comparing her from this episode to a lesserafim fancam will bring me to tears, she's truly so inspiring and I will always support her

i got you both DG and Marcel but you know how it's work since you follow this industrie for a long time now .maybe i'am not that sensitive because i use to see that time of show again and again for my entire life LOL.

- I think the comment about Jurina ("she might not be what we are looking for") was more about if she would fit a girl group. She might be more suited for being a soloist. - It might've been just 1 judge that didn't know that Japanese song that everybody else seemed to know πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ On the one hand I agree with you that the judges should've done some research beforehand. On the other hand it might also be good to go in blind, to be as objective as possible. - Miru! We know her from Queendom Puzzle. - I think she mentioned an important difference there: "We at NMB48 always want to make people laugh". I don't think I have ever heard a Korean idol mention that being a goal for them. Interesting. πŸ€” - "We want to cheer people on". That's it! The Japanese idols, their approach, might have more in common with cheerleaders. - "A.... nobody. B..... Miru". Why do they announce it like this? I can't imagine them doing this for everybody, as that would get rather tedious for a F group 😬 - Yes. It's ba-Nana Juri ☺️ - πŸ’•πŸ’• Don't play with me boy πŸ’•πŸ’• - Wow, Cho Yeon (fire eyes) really surprised me. She's very energetic, funny, dances powerfully and sharp, and has strong stable vocals while doing it. I like her singing tone as well. - I totally understand why you're not going to react to Le Sserafim's Coachella performance. I watched some reactors talk (shit) about it: "they can't sing" that it kinda pissed me off. I know your reaction would've been A LOT more nuanced, but I'm sure some ppl will come after you anyway. - Sometimes it's scary how similar your opinion is to mine πŸ˜… I literally was saying the exact same things about the inconsistency in the grading criteria (Sakura's in this case). I even made the same comparison as you did (pollen girl) πŸ˜…. "Let's just believe in her" rubbed me the wrong way too. And I'm very surprised it came from that specific judge (Yoonjeong), as she normally is very no-nonsense. - "Unnecessary drama" doesn't exist at Mnet πŸ˜‹ (contradictio in adjecto πŸ€“) - Oh? All lyrics from now on have to be memorized in both Korean and Japanese? Cool. Sounds very fair. - First they say that the title song performance is to "introduce yourself to the public", and then they say that F aren't even allowed on stage. So they are not allowed to introduce themselves? Seems unfair. - Yeah, having your arms do 1 thing while your legs do another would already make it impossible for me. - Yeah, the episodes are already getting dragged out. - What's with the sheep sound effect? πŸ‘ - Not the most entertaining or fun episode imo, but it's to be expected. I'm sure it will get better from here.

My problem with the editing is the constant repetitions and mini cliffhangers that get super annoying really fast. I don't need to see a trainee make one mistake five times over.

- Lee Seunggi just signed a contract with BPM, meaning he's now labelmates with Soyou, Viviz and Taemin. - Good on Lee Haeun getting an A but honestly, I would've given her a B. In isolation her dancing and singing are certainly A level but she wasn't able to do both at the same time. A full A level trainee needs to stably sing and dance simultaneously in my opinion. - β€žJurina is not what we're really looking forβ€œ Respectfully, what the fuck are you talking about? - There seems to be a general bias against the Japanese candidates going on here. The fact that the judges don't know one of AKB48's most popular songs is another factor in that. - OH SHIT IT'S MIRU! FROM QUEENDOM PUZZLE! - Idol School is the show that formed fromis_9. Amazing group as you know but the show itself was a goddamn shitfest. Results that were 100% rigged, inhumane conditions, just horrible all around. - Juri of Rocket Punch is here! - I did mention all the groups that are represented but I didn't specify which members are here. Just wanted to give a quick and dirty overview and I certainly don't expect you to remember or recognise everyone. It is a lot. - You can tell, Juri really wanted an A. - Choyeon really said return to Monke πŸ’ - I said it under the Ateez Coachella video already but yes, I'd love a Le Sserafim Coachella reaction :) - There just seems to be a general hate train against LSF going on right now and I don't get it. Like, what are people even expecting? Do they think that every Kpop singer needs to be a vocalist on the level of IU or Taeyeon? That's ridiculous. - While I definitley think that Sakura is being way too hard on herself, I also wouldn't have given her an A. Her singing was too quiet for that. B or C would have been a good grade here. Jurina's performance was better in my opinion and even that didn't get an A. - Hey, if the Japanese girls have to learn Korean lyrics then it's only fair that the Koreans have to learn Japanese lyrics too. - Yup, the editing is certainly more annoying than in season 1. More unnecessary build ups and cliffhangers. - Keep in mind, the producers of this show deliberately did NOT provide any translators to the girls. They wanted to keep communication as difficult as possible. - I've experienced this myself. You can practice all you want, as soon as a camera is pointed at you, things get weird and you forget stuff. I did some theatre acting a few years back and recordings always feel more stressful than regular rehearsal. - Oh, you haven't even seen the worst of it yet. Mnet really go out of their way to humiliate their contestants as much as they can with their editing. And this is also how you get 2+ hour long episodes. Needless bloat. There's a reason why I ragequit this show on my first attempt of watching it. - Damn. Even two seasons later, someone is still fatshaming Kang Mina πŸ’€ - It's like the male coaches are the good cops and the female coaches are the bad cops. Soyou and Bae Yoon Jung are MUCH harsher than Honggi and Choi Young-jun.

That's not quite exactly what I said, adversities and overcoming them are an integral part of survival shows and tv in general, I get that, I just feel like sometimes the editing is too forced and evil. Real life isn't a movie, anime, or Manga, the people who participate in these shows sometimes can suffer long term from the way they are portrayed, but I get that I may be a bit too sensitive about this. All in all, it works for mnet, clearly. And I, as a viewer, am engaged.

Thanks for letting me know πŸ™

29:00 Actually AKB is not popular in korea at all. So judges reaction is normal. After pd48, one trainee said Mnet forced korean trainees to practice that song.

DG I also think that you don't understand certain aspects of the show or the editing perhaps also for a cultural reason. you wonder what's the point of seeing girls in trouble or seeing them cry. that we could take away almost an hour of show. but the goal of all this is nevertheless obvious. You think that the show simply wants to give a bad image to Japanese idols when the goal is precisely the opposite. I'm going to make a metaphor when you watch a manga or a superhero film there is no point in following a very strong basic hero who has no difficulty and who suffers no failure. if you like Uncanny counter for example it's precisely because counters have weaknesses, they lose fights, mourn their dead. and when they manage to defeat their opponents after having undergone several sufferings, it is even more enjoyable. well, it’s the same. the show shows the shortcomings of Japanese idols, their doubts, their pain and their tears. but it's simply to build the rest of the show, many of them will become better, come out with very good performances and seeing the moral and technical progress of these girls will be super interesting and touching. This will make Japanese idols very popular and endearing because they start from scratch. MNET has flaws but they are very good for building narratives. and the finality is always positive. Korean and Japanese idols will become friends or very close, Japanese idols will gain strength and in the end the show will go very well. if we put vote manipulation aside but we will talk about it when the time comes.

DG when we talk about selective all the agencies are. and all the survival shows too. watch the survival show Sixteen, it's the least impartial and most unfair show I've watched. JYP also selected the idols for their "star quality" he did it for Sana for Momo and many others and he found stupid reasons to explain why he had not selected the members that the fans had highlighted because of their young age was dishonest. and basically he was right because his group was wildly successful, he should have simply launched it without involving us in it. all as the judges of produce 48 are right the only problem is the hypocrisy of believing that people have control and that they form their own groups. I would have preferred for Twice that JYP was honest and that they said well I already have a small idea of the girls I want to see in the group, I know who will be part of it for sure I just need that you fans comfort me or not in my ideas. well it's the same for the produce series. I love these shows but I would have preferred the producers to be more honest in admitting to highlighting certain girls more than others. -DG the consistency in judging artists is very complicated because the judges themselves are biased by their own expectations. some judges will pay more attention to dancing, others to singing, others to stage presence and visuals. that's why there are several of them because each gives its own rating. for sakura it seems that half of the judges would have given it a B and the other half an A; they decided for the A for the reasons that I explained earlier. - to finish after these 3 long posts I would say that at the time the idols who had caught my attention after the evaluations. was for the Koreans Yuri, Yujin, Yena, Chaeyeon, Wonyoung, Gyuri, Eunbi, Go Yoojin, Suhyun, Eunchae and for the Japanese Sakura, Miru, Juri, Moe, Noe, Myu

fabrice maire

what is interesting and which confirms what I said in my post is that Juri in her interview says that she is a fan of kpop and that kpop artists are the best in the world she says this even though she is herself a very popular artist in Japan. and she is not the only one in this case. This proves DG that Japanese idols are very aware of the difference in standards and levels between her and Korean idols. what's more, they have seen everything from the 2 previous seasons of produce and know the judges and are a little afraid of them. so they are not taken by surprise or trapped, they know very well what they are getting into. To be among the best you have to train with the best. - yes Kim Cho Yeon was on fire this harmed her during the show she received a lot of bad comments which told her that it was not necessary to be so intense. During the rest of the show she took these comments into account and became more popular. she later made her debut with Bugaboo group which disbanded quite quickly. - good main event of the episode for me MISS Miyawaki Sakura I have immense respect for her, she is not in my ultimate bias list but she is the idol that I respect the most, she has a simply incredible career and extraordinary tenacity. Well, I am going to put my foot in the flat Sakura is not the best singer or even the best dancer in the industry but she is very efficient, incredibly resilient and ultra charismatic. participating in produce 48 was a very big risk for her but she too was a fan of kpop she also thought that kpop artists were the best in the world and she also wanted to be part of the best. but when she realized that she had a lot of shortcomings like many of her Japanese friends, she didn't accept that. in Japan it was one of the best but in South Korea it was a novice. well she fought with determination to demonstrate that with the same training as the Japanese Korean idols, they could also be among the best. she inspired dozens of Japanese idols to come to South Korea to improve themselves, Rei, Tsuki, and dozens of others have said it. Sakura is the only idol who has been in 3 groups which all had immense success which makes her the most accomplished idol in activity. Nowadays she is still learning despite a career of more than 13 years as an idol. yes Coachella was a test for Lesserafim and yes week 1 was a disaster but this can be explained by dozens of reasons, stress, the ultra noisy public, technical and pyrotechnic problems. but week 2 was very good. and in the opinion of many Sakura was the most comfortable and stable among the members. DG pays attention to Sakura in this season and watches her state of mind and her evolution. I remain convinced that Sakura is the main person responsible for the rise of Japanese idols in kpop. what Sakura said is very true and the awareness was huge for her. Kpop sites are popular all over the world but Japanese idols are only popular in Japan. the question is why?? the answer is simple in that as an artist you cannot simply be satisfied with being beautiful, smiling and bringing joy to people. you must have talent, something unique, songs that say something, story telling, etc.... jpop does not inspire many people, the content creators on jpop are essentially Japanese. their music does not export well. Sakura understood this very well and her anger from that moment on, her determination and courage demonstrated that the Japanese could indeed be talented but they had to put themselves in danger to prove it. - for their grade it's simple I think that 2 things came into play 1 Sakura and Jurina are the 2 aces among the Japanese according to their criteria and at this moment of the show only one Japanese member had received an A. it was necessary that d one way or another so as not to denigrate the Japanese too much Sakura is an A. between Jurina and Sakura if one of the 2 had to get an A it would be Sakura for me for a very simple reason the judges know what kind of girls they want and Sakura meets their criteria better than Jurina. and this is the major problem with MNET survival shows. say that the "public chooses the girls they want is partly false" the public chosen among girls highlighted and pre-selected by MNET. They will make girls more attractive than others so that people vote for them. -Yes DG if you have time react to week 2 of Lesserafim at coachella Sakura is just incredibly beautiful and charismatic and the performances are very cool
