Not related to PD48 but survival shows in general: it seems like Road to Kingdom is getting a second season with the following groups competing: - 8TURN - ATBO - BAE173 - GHOST9 - NOWADAYS - OnlyOneOf - The New Six (TNX) - xikers I haven't seen any information on when it starts.

Marcel Wannieck

ou will love this show Crispy for many people it is the best female survival show. and many of the idols that she saw in the show are very popular nowadays.

fabrice maire

good summary I wanted to do it when DG could see each of them for me it would be too laborious and spread over several fairly long posts. but yes you named most of the idols and groups that reign over the 4th generation

fabrice maire

It's great seeing my ive and le sserafim girls here, they're such babies, but even knowing who wins I get to stressed out watching these shows

Merrick

Oh yeah, we've seen that performance πŸ˜… Thnx 4 all the info.

AKB48 might be the biggest group but Jpop is HUGE. There's plenty of competition, don't worry :) For example, there's the Sakamichi Series with groups Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, Hinatazaka46 and Yoshimotozaka46. They're sorta the "official" rivals of 48g. Sakurazaka46 even performed at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaVzcg9Wzp4 Beyond that, off the top of my head I can think of groups like Sakura Gakuin (Babymetal started out as a subunit there), Morning Musume, Atarashii Gakko, The Rampage from Exile Tribe (and all the other Exile Tribe groups), Perfume. There's much more but I'm honestly not that deep into Jpop. Kpop is already keeping me plenty busy and when it comes to Japanese music, I tend to gravitate more to the rock and metal bands. Think Band-Maid, TRiDENT, Crystal Lake, Hanabie and of course Babymetal.

Marcel Wannieck

Thanks, I just added them :)

Marcel Wannieck

also H1-Key. Riina was one of the contestants, appearing under her birthname Lee Seung Hyeon. She's one of the WM Entertainment trainees. Damn I had forgotten how much of a PD48 reunion Queendom Puzzle was lol

of course the judges know that there is a huge difference in level between the Japanese and Korean idols. and of course the show will put its finger on it. but the process, however hard it may be, does not count, only the result counts. and at the end of the show most of the Japanese idols will come out grown and much more efficient than before. of course nothing will prevent them from returning quietly to their AKB group and just entertaining the crowd. but many Japanese idols will want to train and stay in Korea to become the best possible. - for the reception of course a lot of Koreans made fun of the Japanese idols at the start of the show then gained a little respect for them. Online people are real assholes sometimes. but many also encouraged them at the time. For my part I gained immense respect for some of them and in particular Sakura who is probably the most determined idol I have ever seen. As we know her journey and her incredible success, we can only have immense respect for her. - Yamada Noe incredible character very bright and lovable the savior among the Japanese members - yes DG you know Kim Doah but in fact you know at least half of the trainees. They are all part of the 4th gen groups that you know. IVE, LESSERAFIM, EVERGLOW, PURPLE KISS, ROCKET PUNCH, NATURE, TRI.BE, KEP1ER, and many others or are soloists. -Starship an Yujin and Jang Wonyoung are huge stars and today they literally carry their agencies on their backs. IVE makes 60% of Starship's revenue. much more than WJSN or even Monsta X - Takeushi Myu is the first Japanese to get an A but at that time my favorite Japanese trainees were Noe and Moe - Kaeun and Hyunjin were among my favorites of the show I wanted to see them both in IZ*ONE

fabrice maire

Thnx. Yeah, after I posted my comment I already got it from your comment πŸ‘. Still, aren't there any other (big) companies in Japan? Some competition might be healthy.

-first the new host Lee Seungi is one of the most popular actors in South Korea, probably in the top 5 actors of his generation. - AKB48 is the largest female group in the world, it has more than 600 members who have succeeded over time. the group is divided into several units.. one sub-unit per region. Originally there were 5 teams representing the different kanto. now there are several dozen sub units. after a certain time in the group the idols who leave pass graduations to commemorate their contribution to the team. There are AKB groups even in China and Thailand. - Yuehua's first girl group is composed of Choi Yena that you recognized DG and Yang Yiren and Kim Shi Hyun member of EVERGLOW Shi-hyun was in season 1 of produce but no one noticed her. I mentioned her a few times but she had very little screen time. - yes DG the 3rd girl group included Kim Dayeon from (Kep1er) -me too DG I am very happy to see Produce 48 because i'am more into girls show than boy show. but for a question of logic, for alternating between the boy show and girls show I also thought that Prouce 101 season 2 would win and I would have been happy too. anyway the 2show are incredible and I'm a huge fan of IZ*ONE and Wanna One - from Stone music. Jang gyuri (Fromis 9) and Jo Yuri (currently solo) -from Cube Han Chowon (Lightsum) the little sister of (G)Idle - from Starship of course the Mega star Jang Wonyoung and AN Yujin they were very young at the time, Yujin was 16 and Wonyoung was 15 -Pledis yes DG it was indeed Yunjin from Lesserafim and Lee Kaeun was a member of the very popular After school group like Kahi the coach of season 1 -in the groups AKB48, DG you know Sakura, Juri and Miru well who you saw in Queendom puzzle. Juri is in a kpop group that you don't know very well Rocket punch with other girls from produce 48 - at the time Jurina was indeed in the top 3 very regularly in the AKB rankings but Sakura arrived like a tornado and literally eclipsed all the Japanese members. Today Miyawaki Sakura is probably the most popular and successful Japanese idol. -sitting on seat number 1 in the produce series is a curse no one is part of the final line up by sitting in this place. -Woolim the presentation was quick and focused on Chaeyeon but there were also Kwon Eunbi and Kim Chaewon. which makes 3 members of Lesserafim and 2 members of IVE in the show. - we can also see Goeun and Jieun from Purple Kiss. among the coaches only legends but for me the greatest is Soyou member of Sistar with Hyolin, Dasom and Bora Soyou is an exceptional vocalist she is not very far from Hyolin. -Woolim super cool performance performance referring to their Senior Eunbi, Chaewon and Suhyun was perfect. the same for the group of -WM with Chaeyeon -YES Kang Hyewon is exactly like Sohye she starts with no baggage and very little skill. - Cultural shock between Korea and Japan. Indeed, the two countries do not have the same vision of what an idol should be. in South Korea the Iodl are highly trained and must know how to sing, rap, dance in sync and even write their texts and compose their choreo. In Japan, idols just need to be cute, smiling and adorable. Produce 48 is going to really kick the ass of Japanese idols. and since this show several Japanese idols have arrived in kpop and flooded the 4th gen groups Yuki, Juri, Sakura, Rei, Ikaru, Tsuki, Kazuha and many others. DG your reference is very well chosen. Chaeyeon is considered one of the best 4th grade dancers among idols, yet for experienced dancers who only dance, she was a novice. Well, it's the same for Japanese idols, even very popular idols in Japan like Jurina or even Sakura is considered mediocre talent by KPOP idol standards. -DG of course if you suspect that the shortcomings of Japanese idols will be exposed but the goal is not to denigrate them or judge them because it is a cultural story. the goal will be to make them evolve and leave them grown because the group that will come out of this, whether the girls are Korean or Japanese, will have Korean training. of course many Japanese will be discouraged but many will also fight proudly with courage like Sakura who will challenge herself again and demonstrate to the Korean that she can do as well with the same training. -Sakura looked furious and very upset with the way the judges saw their performance. but precisely this state of mind took her to the top. she seemed to be saying "what???are you looking down on us mother fucker i'll show you what japanase got".

fabrice maire

- Why does every Japanese group have "48" in their names? Because it's essentially all the same group. They're all part of 48g. AKB48 is the original, based in Akihabara, Tokyo and the others are sister groups based in various different cities in Japan.

- I'm so excited to watch this. I've watched many girlgroup survival shows, except for this one. I was gonna watch this some months ago but knew that you were eventually gonna watch this, so I've waited, patiently, and now can finally watch this with you 😊 - I only know this host (Seung Gi) as the main actor in Vagabond, but apparently he's also a singer, and is quite famous. - Holy shit! Right of the bat, we start with Yena, Yiren and Sihyeon (written as Shi Hyun) from Everglow 😱. I guess they were all under Yue Hua at that time. - Yeah, there are so many recognizable girls here, I'm not gonna bother to inform you about them at this stage πŸ˜… I'll leave that to fabrice πŸ˜‹ - But I am surprised and glad to see Juri (Rocket Punch, Queendom Puzzle) here! - One of the judges is Hong Gi?! He's the main vocal of FT Island (rock group). His voice is amazing. - Judge Soyou is from Sistar - Judge May J Lee apparently is a dancer/choreographer at 1Million, but she REALLY looks like Eunji from APink to me. - Very understandable that you think Yiren's name is confusing, because it is πŸ˜…. Her name in korean is spelled i-reon [ee-ron]. - Woollim vs WM? So this is the mandatory "rivalry" story that Mnet created for this season? Oh Mnet πŸ˜„ new year, same trick. - Yeah, I saw you thinking every time Eunbi came on screen, and every time her name was in the subs you seemed to miss it. But you got there in the end πŸ‘ - Why do I feel like AKB/Japan is being set up here? Like, having low standards, they supposedly don't train, are shown after we already saw some good/great performances, etc. Letting that girl freestyle and then playing a really slow song. - What's with the static noise??? 😑 is this another trick to put Japan down? - I thought HKT48 was not that bad. Like C or something. - Why does every Japanese group have "48" in their names? - Go Eun? Purple Kiss in the house! - Yeah, I recognized Do-ah too, but had to look it up, and it's from GP999. - Wonyoung, giant baby. I see, so this is the start of that nickname. - Nah, the Starship team all deserved A imo. - Yes. "Celeb Five (I Wanna Be A Celeb)" by Celeb Five was recently on HyeMiLeeYeChaePa. It's a group of popular comedians with the youngest being 40 πŸ˜… - I'm actually not fine with the F for the girl who lost her voice. Sure, you can't judge her singing, so that aspect is F. But you CAN judge her dancing and performance. And then just take the average. It's what they do with everyone else, so why not with her? I'd give her a D at minimum. - Overall, entertaining episode with LOTS of familiar faces. Looking forward to their improvement and interactions.

I think I've mentioned that I actually have watched a part of PD48 before until I essentially ragequit. You remember how they really focused in on one little mistake by Chanmi in PD101, right? They did the same thing here but MUCH worse. The editing was much more malicious this time. Mnet fucking bullied that contestant. Just a heads up. I forgot which episode it was but it will come up. - β€žPlease don't get mad at me if I don't recognise someoneβ€œ, you say right as Huh Yunjin flashes on screen a second later :D - So yeah, the name Produce 48 stems from the collaboration of Produce 101 and the Japanese idol group AKB48 (and its sister groups from all over Japan). AKB48 is the largest pop group in the world. They've literally had HUNDREDS of members. They have a rotational graduation system where members will graduate out of the group and new ones come in all the time. This is how they've been around since 2005 with constantly changing lineups. It's all VERY J-Pop, completely different from the K-Pop groups you know. This is also reflective in the way their training system works. As in, there is very little formal training at all. With the Japanese 48 groups it's all about the idol's personalities and aura. Raw skill is less important. And this will have an effect that you will see on this show. I'm only scratching the surface of AKB48. It's very fascinating imo and if you want to learn more, this video is a good introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF1nPhMFcto - Question: how much do you know/remember about the final lineup of IZ*ONE? I don't want to accidentally spoil any surprises for you. - And there we have our first familiar trio. Choi Yena + Sihyeon and Yiren from Everglow. - Yes, before Girls Planet, Dayeon already appeared on PD48. - No, Hyuna is not part of this show. She was just mentioned as someone they looked up to. Hyuna had already been a HUGE artist for a very long time by that point. Hyuna debuted in 4Minute all the way back in 2009 and as a soloist in 2010. PD48 aired in 2018. - YES CHECK OUT STRAIGHT LINE BY KEP1ER IT IS THEIR BEST SONG - You've seen Gyuri in a few fromis_9 MVs and also in It's Okay to Not Be Okay where she played a nurse. But she left fromis_9 in 2022 so she wasn't in any of the award show performances you saw. - The Cube trainee is Chowon from Lightsum. I wouldn't expect you to recognise her since you've only seen one MV from Lightsum. - IVE Yujin and Wonyoung, yes. - Wonyoung was 13 years old during Produce 48. - IZ*ONE Spotlight sounds good! You've seen Panorama already so you still got the other four main Korean releases left: La Vie en Rose, Violeta, Fiesta and Secret Story of the Swan. Of course there's also the Japanese comebacks and certain special releases but for the purposes of a Spotlight reaction, those four Korean MVs should be perfect. - β€žWhy does she look like Huh Yunjin?β€œ Because that IS Huh Yunjin! - I don't like the fact that these subtitles omit the names of the people speaking. The subs on PD101 were so good about this so why don't they do it here? I can at least read the names in the Korean subs but you don't get any idea of who's speaking if you can't read the Korean alphabet. - About 600 members in total, yea that sounds right for AKB48 🀠 - Juri. As in Rocket Punch Juri. The one who was also on Queendom Puzzle. She made the BaNana joke. - They're going a bit into the structure of the various 48 groups. AKB stands for Akihabara, Tokyo. That's where AKB48 have their own theatre for daily concerts from the five rotating teams (subunits) of AKB48. NMB stands for Namba, Osaka, SKE stands for Sakae, Nagoya, HKT stands for Hakata, Fukuoka and NGT stands for Niigata. Basically the locations of their homebases and concert theatres. - Jurina is an absolute megastar in Japan. - This is a DENSE episode, I don't blame you for being confused. - It's funny. On Boys Planet they had this whole thing where they were literally fighting for the first place seat and here no one even dares to sit there πŸ˜… - YOUNGJUN MY MAN Ok, I'm gonna try and break down members that you might know from the indivdual performances that we're going into. - First up, Yue Hua. There we have Choi Yena as well as Sihyeon and Yiren from Everglow. Sihyeon was already on Produce 101 where she was eliminated in episode 8. - No, Everglow Sihyeon is not Rocket Punch Suyun - Damn they're good. Especially Sihyeon came a very long way from PD101. - Next, Woolim: Sohee and Suyun from Rocket Punch, plus Kim Chaewon and Kwon Eunbi. - Really nice, showing off two sides like that. - And they prepared even more?! - WM has Lee Chaeyeon of course and also Lee Seunghyeon (Riina of H1-Key). - Man, this was so good too! - Chaeyeon just casually flexing a killer freestyle like it's nothing. - I will neither confirm nor deny any of your speculations on the final lineup. - You probably don't know Kim Minju and Kang Hyewon. They also aren't in any groups right now. Hyewon's company 8D Creative is home to OnlyOneOf though! - I can see the Sohye resemblance, yeah. - Your complete and utter bewilderment at Chowon's performance πŸ˜‚ She's in Lightsum btw. - Yes, I already mentioned this above. In AKB48, charisma and personality are MUCH more important that raw skill. You get to debut really fast and then pick up the necessary talent as you go along. The whole concept of AKB48 is β€židols that you can meetβ€œ. They're supposed to be approachable, cute and relatable. Their choreographies are much simpler and a typical performance might have around 20 girls on stage at the same time. So if a few of them are less skilled than others it doesn't stick out as much. - I'm also gonna put some blame on the producers and the managers of AKB48 here. They basically just threw these girls into the pits without properly preparing them. It's like the Japanese idols didn't know what was coming for them. - But even so, Bae Yoonjung questioning them like that is painful. - BYJ: β€žNone of you are in sync with one another.β€œ Well, that's actually the point. Perfect sync is not what the 48 groups go for. Rather everyone want to show their own unique flair. The differences is how every member sets themselves apart from the others. This is one of the fundamental differences between AKB48 and Kpop groups. Not saying that one style is better than the other. It's just two different ways of doing things. - Everyone loves Noe :) - Why are the subs writing Momoland JooE as Joo Yi? But they're right. Noe is a lot like JooE in her energy. - Soyou is a member of Sistar btw, so she was in a group together with Hyolyn. - Among the FNC trainees is Haeyoon, leader of Cherry Bullet and their second main vocalist next to Bora. Cherry Bullet very sadly announced their disbandment a few days ago :( - The RBW trainees are Park Jieun and Na Goeun of Purple Kiss. But Jieun has left the group in 2022. - Kim Doah of Fanactis. She also appeared a few years later on Girls Planet and got to episode 8. Maybe that's where you remember her from. - Starship trainees! With Yujin and Wonyoung of IVE. And yes, Wonyoung was 13 years old during the show. PD48 was in 2018 but Wonyoung's birthday is a bit later in the year. Yujin isn't much older btw. She was also only 14 here. - Even after correcting yourself you keep saying Wooyoung. It's WONyoung. - YES THE CELEB FIVE SONG - Yup, this song was in the choreo quiz on HMLYCP πŸ˜„ - Wait now that I'm seeing this about Hong Ki being in FTIsland, didn't Solar also have an episode of her Part Change show with him? - Nah, Hongki is all good, don't worry. There is another former member of his band that was sentenced to prison but Hongki had nothing to do with it. - Oh shit, that was really good. And I like that Dancing Hero has such a different vibe from Celeb Five even if they're technically the β€žsameβ€œ song. - β€žA professional always has to be carefulβ€œ Yeah but how can you be careful about a damn pollen allergy? There's nothing you can do against that. - Giving her an F is bullshit in this case. It's unfair to her because she was affected by something that's entirely out of her control. The dancing alone should have gotten her a D at the very least. - Well, Pledis is the company that dropped Pristin like a hot potato soon after debut so it's not surprising that Kaeun was waiting literal years for an After School comeback. Shit company, I tell you. Seventeen were only able to survive there because they're self producing. - Kahi and Kaeun were never in After School together. The group had a graduation system and Kahi left before Kaeun joined. - And it's wild to see them basically gloss over Yunjin, seeing the level of stardom she's at today :D One little piece of feedback about your video layout. The pieces of tape are cute but the one in the lower left blocks part of the subtitles sometimes.

Ok, so right off the bat, before I even go into this episode: a quick preview over some of the contestants. Of course you know the groups and many of the soloists that emerged very directly out of IZ*ONE itself. But to sum up, PD48 also features idols from the following groups: After School bugAboo Cherry Bullet Everglow Fanatics fromis_9 H1-Key IVE Kep1er Le Sserafim Lightsum Purple Kiss Rocket Punch Secret Number as well as soloists AleXa, Kwon Eunbi, Lee Chaeyeon and Yena
