Very late to this, but this was a really enjoyable episode. Mainly because of the focus on performances. My personal ranking: 1. 24 Hours 2. In The Same Place 3. Don't Matter 4. Fingertips 5. Yum Yum I enjoyed all of these except Yum Yum tbh, both in terms of performance and song. It just seemed like an endless, not particularly strong chorus IMO, but maybe that's just me. Good performance overall but I can't really enjoy it if I don't like the song. Damn, two episodes left. This went by so fast, can't wait to see the final lineup completed. Since a few commenters mentioned Girl's Re:Verse... absolutely can recommend. Must watch. Absolutely hilarious with some great performances to boot... would love it if you check it one day, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

- Mave and Plave aren't "AI" groups, they're virtual groups. There's no AI involved in their productions, it's all real people behind the virtual avatars. The animation is done with mocap. I see them a bit as Kpop versions of something like Gorillaz for example. But ChatGPT and Midjourney have absolutely nothing to do with this. - But boy, do I have the survival show for you! Girls Re:Verse is a show that featured 30 already debuted idols. The twist is that the entire show takes place in a fully virtual environment and all contestants are playing virtual characters, so no one is supposed to know who's really who. Though of course some were identified pretty quickly by their voices. But from what I've heard, the show is super chaotic and unhinged because the idols don't appear as themselves :D - Oh no, the voting to kick members out :/ I know they gotta readjust the groups but man... - A surprising number of people voting themselves out. Huh. - I already know Seokyung from her own group GWSN and it's like you say, seeing them lose their confidence like this is always sad. - omg Yoojung having a crush on Jinyoung is adorable πŸ₯Ί 24 Hours - Wow, a practice run that goes by pretty smoothly and without any major issues? I didn't even know that was possible πŸ˜‚ - Good news, all the songs from this round are indeed available on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/23WQRmPCr2qacsex7NWgkL - The mixing was a bit off with the vocals being a little too quiet but other than that, this was great! Super fun, dancable, perfect for festivals! Love it. Fingertips - You heard β€žLionβ€œ because L and R are the same letter in Korean. - Ah, we're back to business as usual. Messy practice runs. - Chungha pls stop - To be honest, the song is really not my vibe. But the girls look amazing and holy moly, Chungha. Jesus πŸ₯΅ Don't Matter - San-E is a pretty big name in the Korean hiphop scene so it's pretty cool that they get to work with him here. - That was amazing! Probably my favourite song of the three so far. The vocal quality that Juna brings here is just so fucking good. That deep tone! Yum-Yum - Reminder that Somi is younger than you'd think. This was her 15th birthday we just saw there. - Did they not provide an interpreter for the girls when working with a producer that doesn't speak Korean? Or why is Somi doing the translating here? - Good performance but like with Fingertips, the song itself really isn't for me. In the Same Place - They did well! I could tell that Sohye was still nervous af but they pulled through very nicely. And the song itself is amazing. And Hyeri is just unbearably adorable πŸ’• So my personal ranking would be: 1. Don't Matter 2. 24 Hours 3. Fingertips 4. In the Same Place 5. Yum-Yum Between places 3 and 4, I like In the Same Place more as a song but Fingertips had a better performance imo. I'm okay with In the Same Place winning but as for the rest, what was that live audience smoking when voting πŸ’€ But now I'm reevaluating if I really did like Fingertips' performance better or if I'm just a thirsty bitch for Chungha πŸ˜…

- Your original thought was "how can you make a survival show without biases whatsoever", which made you think of AI as a solution. Well, you were not alone in this thought process, because this is exactly why there was the show "Girls Re:verse". There, 30 (ex) idols were avatars in a virtual world. So, the original idea was very good. And even though the graphics took some serious effort of getting used to 😬, once you did however, it ended up being one of my fav shows! ❀️ But once ppl figured out which idol was which avatar, I'm sure some bias-voting came with it as well. - Virtual groups like Mave and Plave I'm ok with. From a consumer perspective: They make music pretty much in the same way as real-life idols do, they provide cool mv's where now sky is the limit. Even some forms of interviews and music show performances are possible. They can have personalities of their own, so there are things you can get attached to as a fan. The interactions are limited of course, so I think you will always lose a bit of the "human touch". From a business point of view it has a lot going for it: no idol costs, no scandals, no dieting controversies, no managers, no live vs lipsynch debates, etc. This list is quite large. I'm not sure about the costs of full virtual vs humans and green screens (+expensive camera's, etc). Aespa isn't virtual imo. And yes, Naevis is still about to debut iirc. KDA is virtual, but it's not really idols imo. If anything, they're idolizing the LoL characters. - And here we have the consequences of this dumb setup of learning a song before vote results πŸ˜” - Soyeon choosing Juna over her label mate Eunbin πŸ˜… - YOU HATE PANCAKES?? πŸ˜‹ - Yeah, the audio volume is very low at times. Is it just me, or is it always during times that members aren't that sure of themselves? As if they are emphasizing that πŸ€” - A tip to remember Yeon-jung's [yeon-jeong] name is that it is a bit of the reverse of Twice's Jeon-yeong. 24 hours - I get what you mean about the vocal line (verses) reminding you of Brown Eyed Girls. It really has that 2nd gen vibe / sound. Even the beat does tbh. - All these song are on Spotify 😎: https://open.spotify.com/album/23WQRmPCr2qacsex7NWgkL Fingertips - Ryan in romanized korean is Ra-i-eon, so there already is the "ion" of lion, and the γ„Ή is both r and l so it's totally understandable to get lion. - Chungha chose violence, and Nayoung...saranghae 😘 Yum Yum The pinnacle of ear-worms πŸ˜… Just like Pick Me this has been living rent-free in my head ever since. So far, I liked every song and performance. In The Same Place Sohye messing up (during practice), crying and needing extra attention again? Just like the first time when I watched this, at this point I got a little tired of Sohye. I'm sure she works hard, but I think everyone else is too. We are reaching the stage where we are losing very talented girls while she remains. We might be a broken record but yeah, Hyeri's voice is so cute πŸ₯Ή Song was just ok for me. I think it was very high (pitched) though, so it was my least favorite. Strong high notes but a bit out of the blue for me. So I'm a little confused why this song won. I suspect being the last performance might have had some influence but it's more likely that it struck a cord with the audience that I'm not getting 🀷

- Personally I don't see the point in having virtual idols. our neighbors in Japan love it and we are a lot ahead of us at this level. Virtual idols like HatsunΓ© Miku have been doing sold-out concerts for years but the concept doesn't really work. for Aespa it's not the same thing, the concept works because it has the two of a real idol and his avatar. for KDA it's the opposite: they found human avatars for virtual characters. Plave and Mave also probably have real human behind because who is their voices maybe a real trainee or idol lends their voices and remains in the shadows or their voices are computer generated. In any case I don't like this kind of group simply because I can't like virtual people. -Team 24 hours DJ Koo was my youth when I went to clubs NB2, L'Ocatagon or ARENA. what good memories. I love the song 24 H and this team is perfect Insun motivated the team very well and then the talent did the rest. Nayoung, Mina and Pinky remain the most charismatic members. I loved seeing Soomin finally smile and have confidence. Honestly there are a lot of legendary performances in the first season the first of the lot was Bang Bang. but 24hours and the performances that follow are really cool. Well done to all the girls, it's still fun to watch them even after the 10th time. -Team Fingertips so much talent in this team also I love the song and this performance is also legendary for me. but I'm totally biased by Sejeong she's really too perfect "God Sejeong" was born in this performance for me. but Cathy, Nayoung, Shin kai, Chungha were also amazing. -Team D’ont matter to be honest I'm not a fan of the song or the group if it wasn't for Soyeon I would have found the performance forgettable. Juna who "raps" I found it strange and the performance was good but it was Soyeon AND Eunbin who carried the performance. I wasn't very interested in the rest of the girls. However, in general I like San-E's songs but they will say that this one didn't click with me. -Team YUM YUM all the adorable girls were in this group Yoojung, Somi, Chaeyeon, Dani, Siyeon which at the time scared me a little since the song could very easily be "sexualized". but luckily the girls made it adorable as hell and people loved it. already with the Bang bang performance and huge fanbase Somi was very well placed in the rankings but this performance sealed his place in the group definitively. another legendary performance from season 1. the scene where Somi pulls that hair to reach the high notes went viral at the time. the rap part of Park Soyeon and Dani was also super cool. This song stayed in my head for weeks. -DG at the time 24H, FINGERTIPS, YUM YUM, IN A SAME PLACE was very popular because in each group there were very very popular members. For me objectively it's hard to say that their performance was the best because it was all very good performances and songs. - Team In a same place best vocal performance of the show, still a legendary performance. Yeonjung, Sira, Chaekyung and Doyeon are an incredible vocal line and the others are incredibly adorable. At the time this song would have been perfect for groups like Gfriend, Oh my girl or Lovelyz. I agree this song has the best chorus and the most beautiful choreography. -as I said, but it's impossible to make a ranking because the performance was so good for me. I would just say that Don' matter was far below the other performances. - at the time I even thought that In a Same Place had the potential to become I.O.I's debut song. but this was not the case even if I.O.I performed this song several times in their short but intense career. -DG it seems like this is your favorite episode because you haven't complained once about the editing of the show. I told you a few episodes ago; the show took a while to take these marks but the closer we get to the end, the longer the performances. we have the songs in full and as there are fewer girls remaining the production focuses more on the performances and the girls who remain without cutting the performances too much by showing us the reaction of the crowd or the mentors. below have more worked scenes and even some accessories. in the first episodes we had 15 or 20 performances since there were 100 girls so the performances were very short otherwise the show would have lasted 3 hours each time.
