Produce 101 Episode 8 - REACTION

Comments

Sejeong said her throat condition in this live wasnt good at this time as she just finished her theatre play, she just basically went to her company's practice room to sing again after a long time.

summer

Alright, this took way longer than I intended but here's where trainees 36 – 61 have ended up: #36: Kang Siwon (the individual trainee) was set to debut in a girl group called UNI in 2018 but that never came to pass. She did eventually debut solo in 2019 under the stage name Kang Xiwon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDOmZUQdQKM But she only ever had one comeback and hasn't released any music since October 2019. She seems to be working as a general Influencer these days and has recently done some promotions for the tourism board of Sanya, a city on Hainan Island, off the southern coast of China: https://www.instagram.com/cool_siwon516 #37: Yoon Seohyung was part of that 101 project group I talked about under the last elimination episode. So she got together with seven other eliminated trainees and released the song Don't Give Up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln2q4A9zL3E After that she quit the singing career and became an actress instead, appearing in a good number of movies and a few dramas as well. She also changed her name to Kwon Ipsae in 2020. Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leafykwon #38: Park Haeyoung was also part of the 101 project group. She later debuted in A.DE along with Kim Miso and Heo Saem whom I talked about under the last elimination. They disbanded relatively quickly. Haeyoung also competed on MixNine. She would eventually make her solo debut in 2021 and released her first music video in 2022: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jEpokt6tXA It seems like she recently changed her stage name to wYte and actually released her most recent song TODAY: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHYNDCCAns4 Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/h.young_____ #39: Hwang Sooyeon is someone who's VERY familiar to many Insomnia. She actually left Happyface after PD101 and worked as a backup dancer for artists like TVXQ, Taemin, Taeyeon, Highlight and many more. She rejoined Dreamcatcher Company in 2019 and has become the performance director and main choreographer for Dreamcatcher. The choreos for Deja Vu, Scream, Black or White, Boca, Odd Eye, Wind Blows, BEcause, Maison, Vision, Bonvoyage, Propose and Shatter are all her creations. Plus, she has also debuted as a solo artist of her own, using the stage name S8YN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aouAQs0xRyY Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hwang__sooyeon #40: Kim Sihyeon should also be familiar to you (even if they did write her name as β€žSihyunβ€œ in these subtitles). She joined Yuehua somewhere between 2016 and 2018 and then competed again on Produce 48. And finally, in 2019 Sihyeon debuted in EVERGLOW and has since then also been promoted to be the leader of the group. You've actually already seen all the main title tracks from Everglow, so the only thing I could still recommend is their Unicef promo Promise. But it's a damn good song, I promise ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZmBo1EQnlE Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/i_m_sihyeony/ And this is not really relevant but I was fortunate enough to attend an Everglow concert about a month and a half ago. Front row. And dude, you do not unterstand how stunningly beautiful Sihyeon is until you see her in front of you with your own eyes 🫠 #41: Cho Shiyoon is working as an independant actress: https://www.instagram.com/shi_yoon2 #42: Kim Minkyeung debuted in PRISTIN in March 2017. Remember that name, you'll be seeing it a lot. Because Pledis put ALL 7 of their PD101 contestants in this group + 3 more girls. But before that they would first release a predebut single called We under the temporary name Pledis Girlz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TMDWIy6-Jc Minkyeung actually wrote some lyrics on this too! When Pristin debuted, she went by the stage name Roa. Unfortunately, Pledis also completely fumbled the bag with Pristin. They had this insanely talented and really popular girl group on their hands and still disbanded them after only one comeback. I will never understand this. One of the biggest wastes of talent in Kpop history. Minkyeung would later redebut in Hinapia with a few other former Pristin members but they never released anything beyond their debut single. She's been focusing on modeling since then: https://www.instagram.com/minkyeung_729 #43: Park Sehee took on the stage name Say and debuted in a group called Bulldok along with the other Kconic trainees: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOnK_GOR3W8 They disbanded in 2018. Say later joined a hip hop group called PEACE but they never released a music video. I'm not sure if she's still pursuing a music career. Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sssay_p #44: Kim Minji also debuted in Bulldok together with Say. She went by the stage name Kimi. Kimi also released two solo songs: I Am and Mammy Mammy. Neither have a music video but the latter got some live stages at least. Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenkong_kimi #45: Kim Minjeong at some point joined HighUp Entertainment and was seen training with the girls that would later debut as STAYC. So in another universe, she might have been a member of Stayc today. Obviously that didn't happen though. She has changed companies a few times, was in some lineups that never made it to debut. Most notable of those being IOLITE, where all members simultaneously left the company before debut. And yet, the CEO insists on debuting the group, even with a completely new lineup. Some shady business going on there behind the scenes. Minjeong herself seems to be focusing on content creation for Tik Tok and Instagram these days: https://www.instagram.com/doram_in02 #46: Chu Yejin is working as an actress: https://www.instagram.com/chuuu.3.yejin #47: Jung Haerim should be familiar to you as Elly. She debuted in Weki Meki alongside Sei (Lee Seojung) who got eliminated in the last round and Yoojung and Doyeon who are still in the running. Since we have four members of Weki Meki here in total, I'll take that as four different songs I can recommend :D I started with the debut last time, and this time it's Picky Picky, perhaps the most quintessential Weki Meki song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1taLXjVxB4U Elly has also competed on other shows like King of Masked Singer and Queendom Puzzle, as you know. She likes to keep busy while Fantagio has been keeping Weki Meki as a whole in the dungeon for two and a half years now Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_haerimida #48: Kang Gyeongwon debuted in Pristin under the stage name Yuha. I cannot overstate how big the hype for Pristin was back in 2017. The debut MV has almost 40 million views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLfHuClrQdI And Pledis still fucked it up. Sigh. Gyeongwon would later also redebut in Hinapia and after that was over, she's been focusing on her social media: https://www.instagram.com/kanggyeongwonn She also opened a Youtube channel for vlogs a few months ago: https://www.youtube.com/@Kanggyeongwonn #49: Oh Seojung is currently a musical and theatre actress: https://www.instagram.com/oh_lyrical723 #50: Kim Taeha. Oh boy. So you might have heard of Momoland. JooE from Queendom Puzzle was in that group. They were formed through the survival show Finding Momoland and debuted in 2016 with 7 members. Taeha also joined MLD Entertainment (renamed from Dublekick) around that time and was added to Momoland as one of two new members in 2017, making them a 9 member group. By far their biggest hit was Bboom Bboom in 2018 with OVER SIX HUNDRED MILLION VIEWS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQGRg8XBnB4 This song was FUCKING MASSIVE. That's already half of what BTS achieved with Fake Love which only came out a few months later and it has more views that Likey by Twice which came out a few months earlier. Just to put it into perspective. MLD would follow it up with the very similar song Baam which was also quite successful but after that things went downhill. It seems like MLD Entertainment just didn't know how to utilise the insane viral success of Bboom Bboom. Things also weren't helped by the fact that both Taeha and Daisy, the two new additions from 2017, weren't present for the next comeback after Baam, allegedly due to health reasons. Though some fans speculate more sinister reasons but I won't get into that here. Regardless, Taeha officially left Momoland in late 2020 along with fellow member Yeonwoo. According to a Q&A on Taeha's Youtube channel it was because she wanted to express herself in her own voice more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLFEaR1KfiY Daisy was fired a bit later, leaving Momoland with only 6 members in the end. And yes, I use the word β€žfiredβ€œ deliberately because that's what Daisy herself is saying. She doesn't even know the reason why and it makes me question if Taeha really left Momoland voluntarily: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM4tpsqXI_w Daisy has been pretty vocal about her distain for MLD and the Kpop industry in general. Anyway, Momoland continued on a bit longer with 6 members, releasing music until early 2022 and disbanding officially in early 2023. As for Taeha herself, she opened a Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@taehadrama_1150) and is pretty active on Instagram these days: https://www.instagram.com/tx_xhx #51: Park Hayi debuted in a duo called Jukebox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGf2isCWE28 And she also released solo music under the name Park Hi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaPVPn9qdKw Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/parkhayi #52: Park Gaeul debuted as a member of FAVORITE in 2017 and remained active with them until their disbandment in 2021. Their most popular song seems to be Loco: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4nZjrXc1BQ Gaeul now posts vlogs on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@gaeulinlove Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/park.ga.eul #53: Yu Sua has several groups behind her. First up was Seeart/Oahsis in 2016 (no proper MVs), then Aqua in 2018 together with Kim Sihyun who was eliminated in episode 5 and finally D.A.N in 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ8iNG0N0wI Somewhere along the way she also got the stage name Rijae. Today she seems to be working as a dancer mostly: https://www.instagram.com/__shuarune__ #54: Lee Jinhee debuted in Bulldok alongside Say (Park Sehee) and Kimi (Kim Minji). She got the stage name Genie. Since disbandment she has apparently been working as a model but doesn't have any public social media I could find. #55: Ariyoshi Risa left the idol life and opened a fashion store. Though the last updates on the store's Facebook page and her personal Instagram happened all the way back in 2018 so I don't know where she's at now: https://www.instagram.com/rixxiii3 Apparently she got married in 2021. #56: Hwang Ayoung was part of the 101 project group. She apparently also released some solo songs but I wasn't able to find them. Today she seems to have some involvement with a group called FreezyBone but information on that has been difficult to decipher: https://www.instagram.com/freezybone200 Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/a_0young #57: Im Jungmin debuted in 2020 as a member of Lunarsolar where she went by the stage name Taeryeong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DcztTenU2o The group was sadly not very long lived and only got one proper comeback before disbanding in 2022. Jungmin herself went solo and changed her stage name again to Muu (pronounced like the PokΓ©mon Mew): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZIRspSSWSM Her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lim_muu #58: Kim Yeonkyung debuted as a soloist in 2020: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h1DRKwaKbo This is the only video I've been able to find and it seems like she has also deleted all her social media since then. #59: Lee Younseo has left Cube Entertainment. Nothing else has been publicly heard from her since PD101. #60: Shim Chaeeun was in the lineup of a group called OMZM but they never debuted. She opened a Youtube channel but hasn't been very active recently: https://www.youtube.com/@Chaeeun1003 #61: Kang Sihyeon was also in the lineup of OMZM. However, she later managed to debut in another group called Ariaz in 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QISipqxMXxU Ariaz disbanded in 2022 due to... various issues. I don't wanna get into it here because it's a lot but this is a good video on the matter if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnk3cSJL5Xk Sihyeon herself still posts on social media: https://www.instagram.com/sihyeon_shine

- Episode 11 is the finale where the final lineup of I.O.I is announced. - My personal choice for the next survival show would be Peak Time but I'd be down for I-Land too. Generally a male show would be nice because we've just done four female shows back to back. We haven't watched a male survival show since Boys Planet and that ended over nine months ago. - Random surprise Jessi - I know that Yoojung went on Jessi's Showterview. I wonder, did this come up? - Yeah that dance step in 24 Hours is called shuffling (or sth like that) and it was particularly popular in the hardcore techno genre in the early 2000s. Stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T41AwlLcqbI - Oh my god, it's Ryan Jhun, he's fucking everywhere - The title Fingertips makes me think of Gfriend immediately. - I am sorry. I love Sejeong to pieces but the only god around here is God Jihyo. - Sehee, are you incapable of reading the huge ass sign on the door? πŸ˜‚ - I wonder where these people that left those comments about Soyeon's looks are now. Hopefully seething and coping at the fact that she's basically created one of the biggest girl groups in Kpop history. - These lineups are gonna get shuffled around again after the elimination anyway. - While this show was airing, Blackpink hadn't even debuted yet. - Thanks for the speed up. Makes this a lot less draining to sit through. - But I don't really have much to say on the rankings here. I already know the full final lineup anyway. - Of course I will be giving an update on all the eliminated girls in my next comment. Might take a few hours tho, so bear with me.

Yes, seeing Soyeon lose confidence was ROUGH. I already knew about it, but I've never seen the actual footage before. Makes me mad. Also makes casting herself as the 'ugly duckling' in Allergy/Queencard that much more poignant. Looking back at old posts from when the show aired, it looks like the hate also affected Yeonjung and she's also lost confidence a bit. I will never understand survival show audiences, they're always hungering for any drama then get all irrationally angry when they get it lol. Every Mnet show it's the same story. I had to laugh at Sohye's confusion at Sohee basically taking her place lol.( Also I just realized that I recognize Sohee from Nature.) Good to see Sohee recognize her flaws, but it's a shame she is ALSO suffering from the hate. Yeah, there's quite a few contestants I would rather survive each elimination but at the end of the day any show with voting is going to be a popularity contest. I did like the little segment where contestants can make their complaints about the show and Mnet does a little something to make up for it. It's not enough, really, but at least it's SOMETHING. I wish Mnet did that for all their shows. Overall a good episode, I think at this point it's easy to see the final lineup take shape. Can't believe we'll be done in three weeks, crazy. Btw, here's a fun little moment... Sejeong singing Soyeon's Super Lady intro in a recent livestream. https://twitter.com/soyeonstagram/status/1768746231260471737 Soyeon is really crazy for this lol

- Great idea to immediately follow this with a spotlight reaction video on I.O.I πŸ‘ - I also like your arguments on doing I-Land next, even though I haven't seen it yet and am not that into boygroups, but I'll probably get sucked in during your reactions anyway πŸ˜… - Yeah, the English rap section was a bit random, but I liked it. Those lines from Jessie are so iconic. Yuna was actually very good, and Yoojeong's duality is always great. - That running-in-place step is quite nostalgic yes. Isn't it called the running man? Mc Hammer? There may be some small variations but it was very popular in 2nd gen. For example 2PM's I'll Be Back, or T-ara's Lovey Dovey, etc. - kkk (γ…‹γ…‹γ…‹) is like hahaha in korean. And haters gonna hate πŸ˜” We now all know how great and successful Soyeon is, and all the hate comments are now fuel for her songs. - I'm also not a fan of the practice-but-don't-get-to-perform thing, but I can't say it's entirely for nothing. Practice is always good. - Yet another team led by Park Soyeon doing great. - Even teacher Kahi getting confused by Sohee and Sohye πŸ˜… - Emotional support cat? 😸 - Less = more? πŸ€“ - Hyeri is so cute. She's like the Myah from GP999, but with less memorable performance moments. - Cathy/Heehyun is indeed confusing. I do know which one I would choose πŸ˜‹ - Her calling out the weird captions of the last episode is pretty funny though πŸ˜„ - Sooyeon (DC choreographer) made an interesting comment: "I feel like there wasn't much of Happyface members on screen. If they aired I Got A Boy, wouldn't half of our company trainees have survived?". I don't know how true this is (not much of ANY performance was shown tbh), but it's an interesting sentiment. Makes me wonder how much (bought?) favoritism there is for girls from bigger companies πŸ€” - I liked this whole segment though. The girls calling out Mnet for editing them badly. The worst complaints were probably not shown of course. (we didn't see Chanmi for example). - After Sohye said "Please don't hate me", I actually really liked the host here when he asked her "do you want to be a singer?" "Yes" "That's all" (that matters). - Seeing Somi here made me think back to Sixteen, which in turn made me think about: what if... she was part of Twice 😌 - number 36, Kang Siwon, became part of a predebut group but disbanded. Later she made her solo debut, and later she released a solo album. But neither very successful unfortunately.

- 19 Jeon Soyeon for me she is in the top 15 but given the criticism she received on her physical appearance being in 19th place is very good. - 18 Kim Dani not surprised to see her ranked so high even if her airtime in the main show is not huge she has a solid fanbase. -17 Eunwoo I was expecting to see all the Pledis girls in the top 20 I am so disappointed that Pledis is sabotaging their own group PRISTIN had a very good start and could become the leader of the 4th gen but for some reason that I don't know Pledis didn't know how to exploit the group and they disbanded after 2 or 3 years -16 han Hyeri didn't understand why she was ranked so high ok she is "cute" but we can see her neither in shows nor in their everyday lives. She doesn't have meorable performance so it's a mystery to me. -15 Chaekyung good leadership too. she has very good talent and she is very complete. I followed her in April and I am sorry for what happened to the group which was tarnished by yet another Harassment scandal. -14 Lee Haein the dark horse in every survival show she participates in. -13 kim Chungha what can I say DG already knows that she will be part of the group. -12 Ki Heehyun (Cathy) not surprised to see her there, she was even the leader of the group DIA which had already made its debut. it's the least we could have hoped for for her; Cathy was her stage name but after the show she just dropped that name for her real name. - interlude yes DG I agree Insun and Youngji could get along well too has a very big "old fashion" side in Earth arcade she appears with grandmother's clothes without makeup and she behaves and moves really like our mother or our Grandmother . seeing the interaction between Youngji and Yujin is priceless. - yes at the time the detractors of Sohye or Risa thought that if they had been so far in the show despite their obvious lack of skill. it's because Sohye must have been the daughter of a Mnet executive or that Risa had slept with JKS. This was one of the many rumors that revolved around Sohye or Risa. TOP 11 - 11 Im Nayoung β€œstone boudha” she will keep this gimmick until the end. she is a very complete idol who knows how to dance, sing, rap and she is also a very good leader. -10 Yu Yeunjung, what can I say, top tier vocalist, well-deserved place. -9 Jung Chaeyeon as a member of Dia and one of the most beautiful girl in the program not surprised to see her at this level. -8 Kim Sohye the question for DG will be whether Sohye's fairy tale will be temporary and short-lived or if people will carry her to the end to make her enter the final line. in fact Sohye has of course received her share of haters like almost all girls but in reality no more than that. the messages were overwhelmingly messages of encouragement and support. precisely thanks to the honesty of Sohye who knew perfectly well that she was not classified thanks to these skills but thanks to the support of people and very hard work. Her humility made her very popular and it was very hard not to like her. -7 Kim Doyeon JKS all said beauty and talent Kim Doyeon has all deserved place. -6 Pinky (Kyulkyung) no surprise for me at the time she was supposed to be part of the final line up. she was in the top 100 in all evaluations. for it to leave the top 11 it would take a very big mistake live. -5 kim Nayoung at the time I said it from the beginning the 3 girls from Jellyfish had to be part of the final line up the 3 were already a girls group on their own. -yes there is no difference between number 2 and 11 because they are all winners. on the other hand it is important to be number 1 because it is the girl who will have the "center" position in the group and who will have the most attention. - 4 Jeon Somi at the time I was shocked because she really received a lot of compliments after her performance with the group "Avengers 2 and the song Bang bang. proof that bonus points have an important role Mina and Sejong received these bonus points not Somi that's why she finished 4th. -3 Kang Mina of course my girl is 3rd, that's the minimum. -2 Choi Yoojung incredible talent and charisma Yoojung is truly incredible. - Kim Sejeong "the ultimate idol", "God Sejeong" the "Strongest female idol" "the idol from the next door" the super saiyen amoung the idol if she was in DBZ she will be Broly for sure. very well deserve. i'am one of her biggest fans. - DG to give you an idea just the top 4 received almost 5 million votes if we add the top 20 they approach 8/9 million. and if we take all the votes for all the girls that exceeds 10 million votes. which means that out of over 50 million South Koreans, 10 million people are quite involved in the show. peak audiences could reach 30% which is enormous.

-in the intro the girls use a sentence that has gone viral from Jessie in the show Unpretty Rapstar season 2. fun fact Jeon Soyeon will be one of the participants in Unpretty rapstar season 3. the show which will reveal her incredible rapping talent not only against idol rappers, but also against rappers from the pure Korean rap / hip hop scene. - I have always loved underdogs in many shows I support people for their talent or for their hard work. Their visuals don't matter to me. Soyeon already had a lot of talent. she could actually have made these debuts with CLC or joined them like Eunbin did after the show. but she had to struggle because many people attacked her by saying she was ugly. which makes no sense to me because I always found her pretty. the worst is that because of these remarks Soyeon was convinced herself that she was not pretty and that she could not be an idol. and now she is one of the most talented, beautiful, charismatic and popular idols of the last 5 years. - Risa is a UFO even for this type of program, frankly no one saw her after the first elimination. Like Sohye she clearly lacks all the basics and doesn't have much natural talent. but like Sohye she works hard and gets there without going out. the only difference between the 2 is Sohye's popularity, gained a lot of Fans while Risa didn't have much support. - the YUM YUM team is incredible even if in general I hate when they give sexy concepts to young trainees. This song and the way it is going to be performed is super cute. -the relationship between the coaches and the girls is very strong. once again this show was a first of course the producers did things well and made mistakes. but among the good things they did was allow us, the spectators, to enter their lives as trainees/idols. attended their training in real time, saw their dormitory life, their meals, their relationships with coaches etc... something that I find a lot missing in shows like Girls planet 999 or others. For many it's a show that lasts 1.5 hours each week but for the girls it was their daily life for several months. singing, dance, rap, theater, English lessons, on how to manage social networks, sports, lessons on how to manage stress and pressure, well-being, meditation, beauty. all these courses and training to become an idol in just a few months. -LOL yes I agree with Kahi that Sohye got 2nd place in dance makes absolutely no sense. and we all know that she is one of the worst dancers on the show. but the fact is that she has made enormous progress and that plus her incredible popularity have given her this 2nd place which is therefore indisputable. So it's even more pressure on Sohye's shoulders who knows that she has to work even more than before. It's always the same thing in survival games. Who should have supported as fans? someone naturally gifted and talented? or someone who has no particular talent but works hard?? I think it depends on what type of group, concept and image you want to convey. - another positive point of the show at the time, the elimination episodes were less long, the eliminations were done in less than 1 hour whereas nowadays they can last at least 2 hours with lots of breaks, moments of tension etc. - elimination - 36happy for Lee soomin (Fantagio) she is very discreet but as talented as Yoojung or Doyeon. -35 Chanmi I thought she would be eliminated at the time MNET didn't highlight her for sure but the truth is that she didn't show incredible performance either -31 happy for aunt INSUN you can be old and be an idol. -30 Park Soyeon (Loen) probably one of the most talented among the girls who remains very good leadership at the time I could see her finishing at least in the top 15 -29 Kang will be one of the 5 best singers with Yeunjun, Sejeong, Juna, Yeseul. -28 Shin kai the same at the time I saw her in the top 15 and even in the final line up of the group -25 Kwon Eunbin (not Eunbean) is all that she will end up joining CLC I also easily saw her reaching the top 20 - 24 Song Hyemin I like her a lot too we don't see her much but I find her very pretty. - 22 Kim Sohee she has a very similar background to Somi she has potential but these different agencies were not able to exploit it. in 2016/2017 I saw Sohee in different projects and shows she seemed to appear often but with no specific purpose. she is currently in the Nature Group (if not disbanded) -21 Kim Juna her voice alone justifies this rank
