A week late bc I was busy. iKON β RHYTHM TA - It's fucking wild to see iKON described as rookies - Not bad. Obviously it doesn't match the energy of the original (which is especially insane in a live setting) but that's an unfair comparison. Changing main rapper from Sze Kai to Kathy was the right move here. - The thing with the reaction shots is driving me nuts too. Does Mnet want us to see these performances or not? - Impromptu dance battle? Is this how it started before the dance battles got some proper production and their own stage in the later seasons? EXO β Growl - Low ranks mostly but damn, the practice looks insane already. - FUCK that editing holy shit. - I'm sure the performance was amazing. I can't really tell because I COULDN'T FUCKING SEE IT PROPERLY. - Yeah I just wanted to ask again about that Gfriend Spotlight since it's been a while since you mentioned it. But of course you do it whenever it feels right for you to do it :) Verbal Jint β You Look Good - Feels good to finally have one of these emotional rap performances with subtitles here. We've seen this sort of thing on Girls and Boys Planet too but the translators there apparently didn't deem the lyrics important enough. Even though the lyrics are the entire damn point of a performance like this. And this was a really good one! Sunmi β Full Moon - Oh damn, it's those three? - When the practice goes so bad that both mentors just leave the room π¬ - Okay, immediately that new starting pose on the ground gives a much better impression than what they were doing in the practice room. - Now THAT'S how you do it! Paloalto β Turtle Ship - I feel like I have to keep reminding myself that back then, Soyeon wasn't the insane superstar she is now. - This might be the editing but why is Yebin getting so butthurt over Soyeon actually trying to make this a good performance? - Okay! Let's go! Seems like Yebin finally got over herself in the end there. But man, that whole situation was just weird. - And of course Soyeon has my favourite part in this. Is it because I'm biased? Maybe... Destiny's Child β Say My Name - EXCUSE ME IS THAT SIHYEON FROM EVERGLOW?? I mean, they're writing the name as βSihyunβ but that's 100% Everglow Sihyeon. - I get both sides of the issue here. Obviously Nayoung put a ton of work into choreographing this but I completely understand the frustration of some of them potentially not standing out at all. - Stop showing me random people in the audience for fuck's sake! - I was great, I just wish I could've seen it properly. Jessie J and friends β Bang Bang - I'm as tired of the Avengers comparisons as anyone else but you gotta admit, that is an insane lineup of trainees right here. - Yo wtf are these ultra quick and sharp movements - Fuck, dude. Yeah, we have a winner. I know this is not really a competition between the different dance teams directly but still. We have a winner. - That one insane dude in the audience looks like Kum Junhyeon. Okay, now let's see when I can gather up the energy to sit through the next elimination episode π

Bang Bang slayed as expected, it's literally the perfect team. It still gave me goosebumps after the nth time of watching it. Kinda felt bad for Chungha though.

I don't really know, but seeing that it is μ μ¨ μΉ΄μ΄ in Korean, I would say it's [eung ssi ka-i], which doesn't make it that much clearer/easier. I think Cheetah called her by [si-kai], which is indeed close to [sky]. Also, apparently her stage name is [shin], so you could go with that as well. - Yes, there were a lot of reaction shots. But seeing that there was almost no choreo and the song should also be one to get the crowd going, I can understand it a little. - For me Cathy was the best, but I have no problems with this result. - I agree that it felt super rushed. Mnet got to be Mnet-ing. - I really liked that dance battle segment. EXO - Growl - Haeyoung is kinda cute, ngl π - Can't have a survival show without mentioning the Avengers π - I think Park Soyeon was an amazing leader. Must have been tough for her, after choosing that song seeing all lower ranks join, and then seeing all the popular girls you're up against. Verbal Jint - You look good - Choosing the center by rock-paper-scissors? Sounds like a very bad idea to me. - "The friends I've trained with disappear one by one before my eyes, and somehow my fate is decided by the clicks of the public". Dance-wise Pinky and Chaeyeon were both still better imo, but performance-wise (expression/feel), I think Sohye actually came closest to Sunmi. Turtle Ship - Sooyeon (choreographer Dreamcatcher) AND Soyeon in 1 team?! This should be good. - I wonder how Sooyeon got into "rap" and not "dance" π€ - Soyeon hears about that she bypassed Yebin for the main part, and says she now understands Yebin's behaviour, yet doesn't change anything π If Soyeon was really sympathetic, I think she could at least offer for Yebin to take the main part. I mean, Soyeon is super talented and therefor is usually right, BUT she also has a bit of "everything should be done my way" character. - I also understand both perspectives, but 1) Yebin told Sooyeon about it, so why didn't for example Sooyeon step up and suggest to grouptalk about that first? 2) I always thought that females are usually very good at reading the room/ picking up on emotions, yet how can they not see that something is going on with Yebin (and Sooyeon should even know WHAT is going on), and open their mouths about it? Like you said: communication. - The performance was good. It's just not my kind of song I guess. - Hyeongeun --> general tip: insert hyphen first: Hyeong-eun Say My Name - I understand Mina that the others could be a little bit more grateful for Nayoung's hard work, BUT I do feel Sihyun has a valid point. I don't know how long the song is but only getting 3sec of center seems like a very skewed distribution. Nayoung should have taken that into consideration BEFORE she made the choreo. - Other than that, Nayoung is always a great leader. Bang Bang - Oh, there's a 2nd Avengers team now? So even with 2 teams they still couldn't think of another analogy π¬ - Still, the amount of talent here is quite insane: Somi, Yoojeong, Doyeon, Chungha and Eunbin π€© - Somi was already tik-tok-ing even before it became a thing π - Yes, this is a legendary performance. Best one of the entire show so far for me. - Doyeon (1m73) usually stands out being the tallest, but here Dani (1m72) seemed even taller, and Eunbin (1m71) not far behind. - Yoojeong is so shy off-stage, and such a beast on-stage. On-stage she reminds me a bit of Hikaru. - Chungha 4th? Well, like you said, she didn't get much screentime before, and she was up against 3 other great ones. I would've placed her at least above Doyeon though. - I'm not an editor, and I think it's probably not an easy task to do justice to the performance as well as show reactions, etc. But, yeah, this wasn't great. But this was the first survival show, so I have to give them some slack for that.

At the time I was almost sure. yes depending on the translation we call it Shin kai or Ng sze Kai - produce 101 and the produce series in general are focused on training, dorm life and performances rather than building stories around different rivalries. of course there are some like in all shows but less than in the following survival shows I find. but not as pronounced as in other survival shows like GP999 or Queendom for example. and precisely the edition is inconsistent because the performances and reactions of the crowd and the trainees are also inconsistent. If the crowd doesn't react too much and the trainees don't react either, there's no need to film them. This is why I think that certain performances go smoothly and others are damaged by cuts. - next week is full of solo comebacks that I'm waiting for to death. Chungha of course, but also Yooa (oh my girl) and Wendy I'm super hyped by these 3 comebacks. -Growl Team among all the performances I have seen in survival shows this performance is in the top 10 easily for me. Park Soyeon did an excellent job leading this team. for me she is easily in the top 20 at this point in the show. - yes DG I think you really focus too much on production, I think it ruins your pleasure. I would understand if this was your first show but you're used to it now. You're not wrong on all counts. I understand that too many cuts can break the flow of a performance but we Koreans are used to it and so are all the fans who follow this kind of show. moreover you know how it works if you want to see the performance without cute it's possible. Korean productions love to show the interaction between the artists, the public, the judges etc... and they do it every time. - for the spotlight episodes don't put pressure on yourself DG your health comes first. many of us would like more spotlight episodes and GFRIEND is one of the very big KPOP girl groups that you haven't reacted to yet. you know that 3 of them formed VIVIZ but that's all. the other spotlights for me would be SISTAR (as a full group^) another big GG and GIRLS DAY. for Men B.A.P is my favorite 2nd boy groups. - βcenterβ Team I'm going to be a bit harsh but I'm honest this team is seriously lacking in charisma and presence even if they actually understood the song well and gave a good performance. - Full Moon Team honestly 3 of the most beautiful girls in the show they are magnificent yes Sohye is so lovely you can only love her. she struggles in all aspects of the idol job but she is perfect for the image that many people have of what an idol should be. after SΓ©jeong it was Pinky and Chaeyeon who trained him. but yes girls like pinky or Chaeyeon are fed up with judges only looking at their visuals, they want to be recognized for their talents. once again people love Sohye because she is an underdog she has no training must train 10 times more than the others and yet even if she sometimes makes mistakes she progresses. in fact in terms of popularity the 3 girls were very popular but based on talent logically Sohye should have been last. -Turtle ship team We all love Soyeon, she's a genius but she says it herself, she doesn't know about democracy in (G)-idle, all the members laugh about it. they give their opinions but in the end Soyeon decides. well at the time it was already the same if she is the leader of a team she will do things her way regardless of whether the others agree or not. lol yes for a while I thought we were going to have a rivalry like Stone Cold vs the Rock or Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart with chair shots to the back. but in the end Yebin and Soyeon did a very good job. -Say my name. team I would like to mention Sihyun (everglow) I was surprised that no one recognized her in the previous episode. but she didn't have a lot of air time so ok but they saw it well and recognized her well. but it seems that it still goes unnoticed. I think his presence was erased by Mina's charisma or Nayoung's personality. -Avangers Team this is the very first time that this term has been used in a survival show and for once this team is incredible for me it remains one of the 3 best performances that I have seen in a survival show and one of the most iconic fun fact at the time Jessie J really saw the girls' performance which contributed to the fact that this performance became legendary in the produce series.
