I never watched the show but I’m familiar with IOI and followed their post debut journey which I’m sure you’ll want to check out after this. I believe the DSP trainees seemed to be judged harshly because they performed the “butt dance” in front of the original choreographer, Bae Yoon Jung (the strict judge) and weren’t up to standard.

Oh this is fun! I've always meant to watch PD101 but never got around to it, now I finally get to do it.
I'm not into IOI but the group is still a pretty big deal, so I know most of the members. And of course as a Neverland this is also good to watch because this was the start of Soyeon's career.
Outside of the previously named contestants, I also recognized Elly from Weki Meki in there, as well as Suhyeon from Billlie.
It's a shame that the show doesn't seem to be available in good quality anywhere, considering that it made history in so many ways.
Anyways, looking forward to catching the next episode with you!

Alright, time to see how this whole thing started! While I am quite familiar with I.O.I and a lot of the other groups and artists that emerged out of Produce 101, I've never actually seen this show myself. Or any other season of Produce for that matter. Only the spiritual successors Girls Planet and Boys Planet.
- Okay then. Starting like that is certainly a choice.
- We're already bringing up JYP's transparent PVC pants 😬
- Eh, you're only about eight years late. Should be fine.
- IOI barely existed for 9 months, tf are you talking about one year? 😭
- Ah, DSP. Home to groups like Kara, April, Kard, Mirae and most recently, Young Posse. Though I don't recognise these two trainees.
- I do recognise Youngji from Kara though!
- Fantagio! Home of Astro, Weki Meki, Lun8 and also Changsub of BTOB who has signed with Fantagio for his solo activities after he left Cube.
- One girl who should be familiar to you is Choi Yoojung of Weki Meki. You reacted to her solo debut back in 2022.
- Majesty Entertainment are apparently home to a girl group called Purplebeck. I must admit, beyond hearing the name at some point, I'm not familiar with them.
- Loen Entertainment doesn't really exist anymore as they were absorbed into Kakao a few years ago. But for a time they managed IU. Which would explain this trainee Park Soyeon being a backup dancer for IU.
- Jellyfish! Vixx, gugudan, Verivery, Evnne and of course the one and only Kim Sejeong!
And there's Kang Mina whom you've seen as an actress on Hotel del Luna.
- I probably don't need to explain the prestige of Starship. Sistar, Monsta X, WJSN, Cravity, IVE, the list goes on.
- And Cube with 4minute, BTOB, CLC, Pentagon, (G)I-DLE and Lightsum. And the only group they haven't wasted is (G)I-DLE. Amazing talent, horrible company. But you know that already.
- MBK were probably best known for groups like T-ara and DIA. In fact it seems like we have some already debuted DIA members as contestants here.
- Wait, did I just see the name Hwang Sooyeon pop up? As in, the performance director and choreographer of Dreamcatcher?
- No, not Kwon Eunbi. You're about two seasons too early for her. This is Kwon Eunbin, youngest member of CLC.
- Duble Kick eventually became MLD Entertainment and debuted groups such as Momoland, TFN, Lapillus and Hori7on.
- The name Chanmi might sound familiar because of AOA's Chanmi. Who later on changed her name to Dohwa and competed on Queendom Puzzle. Also Chungha whose birth name is actually Chanmi as well.
- Motherfuking JYP Ent, OKAY.
- Oh right, it's Somi!
- Wait, I'm seeing the name Kim Suhyeon. The Billlie member Suhyeon. Man, she had to wait LONG to debut. And don't confuse her with Kim Suyeon whom you've seen on Girls Planet. She's also in Billlie now, just under the stage name Sheon.
- I have to admit, I've never heard of Jang Keunsuk before.
- Wtf is he doing
- Okay, nice lineup of mentors!
- Pretty much exactly like the star ranking in Boys Planet.
- Okay, so Kim Taeha's cousin is Kim Junsu, former member of TVXQ. He also goes by the stage name XIA for his solo music.
- Also significant in the Starship lineup is Yoo Yeonjung, main vocalist of WJSN.
- Good start. The editing is already weird with the reaction shots but it's Mnet, what can you do.
- Kim Sohye has not trained singing and it kinda shows
- Yes, an F is the appropriate grade to give here but come on, there's no need to be so mean about it.
- Sending already debuted idols to survival shows is actually pretty common. Mostly in order to generate buzz and promote the group they're in.
To give you some examples you've already seen: Girls Planet had Yujin of CLC, Bora, May and Jiwon of Cherry Bullet, Doah and Rayeon of Fanatics and Seungeun of Bvndit.
Boys Planet had Jiho, Seowon and Winnie of NINE.i, Hojin of Mirae, Hwanrok of Withus, Dongyeol and Hwanhee of Up10tion, Hui of Pentagon, Keita of Ciipher and Krystian of Now United. I might have missed some.
All of these were (technically) active groups at the time those shows aired.
- It is quite unusual to go on a show like this so soon after debuting though, I will say that.
- Speaking of Mijoo, there's another Lovelyz member who just came back solo. Ryu Sujeong with her song Fallen Angel. Highly recommended!
- This miss A song was a bit too low in energy imo.
- Jellyfish popping off right from the word Go!
- The familiar girl in the middle is Kang Mina. She played Yuna on Hotel del Luna. The girl who got murdered, possessed her murderer's body and then started working for the hotel.
- Save your energy to fight the Mnet editors!
- So wild to see such a young Soyeon here. She was already really good back then but holy shit the evolution she's made since then.
- Looking up the ages of the DSP trainees, both of them were 19 at the time.
- But I don't get it either, they performance seemed good enough to me?
- From what little they showed, Park Hayi really didn't impress, so F makes sense.
- Wow, Good Day by IU? Even IU herself finds this song is too hard. That's bold.
- Well, I'm not surprised. But kudos to her for actually going for it.
- Chanmi coming right out of the gate swingin! That's 10 years of training time right there.
- Her story is much more common than the ones of the actually successful idols. Even if you manage to debut, there's no guarantee that's going to last. Not selling enough albums, controversies, disbandment. It doesn't matter how talented you are if luck isn't on your side. Being a nugu stan myself, I've seen many amazing groups just fade away.
- Ah, Pledis girls! I will never forgive Pledis for how they absolutely wasted Pristin. But yeah, that's the label of After School, NU'EST, Seventeen, Pristin (rip), fromis_9 and most recently, TWS.
- And I just realised, all seven of these girls here would eventually debut in Pristin. And then disband only two years later. Absolute waste of talent. One of the biggest company fuckups in Kpop history.
- I haven't seen Sixteen but having a then 14 year old Somi pose in what is essentially a bra with a fish in her hand seems... weird to say the least.
- Ugh, are we already trying to turn Somi into some kind of villain?
- Jung Haerim? That's Elly from Weki Meki! You saw her on Queendom Puzzle.
- Okay, people were hating on Kim Juna just because of who she happens to be related to? Well, with the sheer stupidity of the Kpop fandom, I'm sadly not even surprised.
- Very odd way to end the episode. But I'm excited to see more!
I will be doing the same thing that I also did for Girls Planet 999. After each elimination episode, I'll give a quick update on each one of the eliminated girls and what they have been doing since. Whether they've debuted, chose a different career path or returned back to a private life.

yes you're right .but Boa and Hyein didn't debut with a survival show . you're right for Seonyou i 'am just curious to know who's the youngest amoug them i think Seowon was a little bit younger .and technicaly she made her debut even younger because before Univers ticket Seowon was a trot singer she debut very early as a singer at 8 or 9 but her idol career start with univers ticket .

kisstvshow.to has it in 720p its a bit dodgy, but all free websites are, I watched it there back in the days.
There was no rigging on season 1, but it is assumed that the effects of "evil editing" came from this show, and it has been accused of shuffling the final contestants and their final position a bit, giving the producers the gall to abuse it so blatantly in the later seasons, I.O.I was HUGE in SK and the money they could make from rigging their successor was sadly too much for the producers, but this season is pure.
I don't think they did a Blackpink but almost did, with one of their very first releases going PAK (back when it was a difficult thing), Blackpink ofc had their debut do it as the only act ever.

Ok. Nice bit of information but a bit irrelevant as the question was about ppl during a survival show. If we are gonna list idols that debuted at age 13, you might as well also mention CLASS:y's Seonyou, New Jeans' Hyein, or even Boa.

Seungju as 10 for her first shooting of my teenage girl . so yes she was the youngest on any survival show . but recently on univers ticket Lim seowon a 12 years old girl was in a show and now she's in a final line of the new group UNIS at only 13 years old that make her the youngest idol in activity now .

- 480p? Damn. If I have time I'll try to find you a better version.
- Was there any rigging or voting controversy? Probably. I only remember me being very shocked about 1 girl making it. I let you decide for yourself when the time comes.
- Your light broke? That sucks. I was already wondering if you are recording this in the middle of the night or something 😅
- Nice to see Kara's Young Ji supporting their trainees.
- "Forgive me if I don't recognize some girls". That's totally understandable. I'm sure the comments will be full with pointing out who ppl are and where they are now, like:
- Kang Mina from Hotel Del Luna (and Gugudan)
- Eunbin (Eunbean?) from CLC
- Yeonjung from WJSN
- Yoojung and Doyeon from Weki Meki
- Soyeon from (G)I-dle
- Somi
- Chungha
- etc
- But that was always gonna be one of the most fun things to watch in these shows: to see you recognize all these girls 😊
- Fantagio is also the company of Astro and Weki Meki.
- Yes, DSP is indeed KARD's company 👍 They also have/had: Sechs Kies, Fin.K.L, KARA, Rainbow, April, and now Young Posse.
- "Who's the youngest survival show competitor?" 🤔 Well, I think it depends on your definition of survival show, but the show that comes to my mind is My Teenage Girl. The show that formed CLASS:y and where Soyeon was a mentor. The youngest competitor there was Seungju who was 11 at the time.
- "Why would active members come on this show?". Happens every time: Hui, Yujin, etc. Usually because of impending disbandment 🫣
- I thought the DSP members did pretty good as well. The judging was indeed quite harsh. But I think they meant that their dancing just wasn't that good. They could've done their own choreo but they chose to do the original, which is the famous butt dance, and then you should nail that. And maybe they couldn't be judged vocally because they could only hear the backing track.
- Yeah, I didn't know this host either, and I also had forgotten about him 😬 And after this show I will probably forget about him again 😬

yop DG before we can see Jennie in Appartement 404 i suggest you to react on Michuri's village. or like almaz drug call "village survival". that the kind of show than most of the korean people like. they fall in love with Jennie's personnality with this show and in running man . I miss Jennie like that . that why most of us have high expectation for Appartement 404 .

You will recognize most of the girls who are part of the 3rd or 4th generation groups because the 4th season of produce series has seen over 400 trainees. of which at least 30% are active today.
DSP media Chaekyyoung was part of the APRIL group and is also the agency that launched KARD.
- Fantagio is the agency that launched WEKI MEKI, some of whose members are in the show.
-the Youngest ever on survival show is LIM SOEWON (13) in universe ticket
- Sejeong/ Mina/ Nayoung or SEMINA were also part of the group GUGUDAN. Mina became an actress as you see her in 'Hotel de luna'
- LOL I'm shocked DG you didn't immediately recognize Soyeon, Chungha or Eunbin
Eunbin not Eunbi was part of CLC
-to help you DG basically as an idol that you know ago
Somi, Sejeong, Soyeon, Chungha, Eunbin (clc), Yeongjun (WJSN), Sihyeon (everglow) there are others but I'll save that for later.
-representative Jang keunseuk is very funny you will see afterwards.
-KIM Sohye is a special case, the only one who really had zero experience. and it seems hard but yes for the mentors and the other participants it is very hard to say that she was selected among thousands of trainees. and therefore asked why she is there with her level. So she has a lot of courage to try the experience but she clearly doesn't have the level.
-several trainees auditioned for the show even though their agencies were going to start them a few weeks later. this was the case for DIA, but also for Gugudan (sejeong, mina, nayeong), but also WJSN which recruited Yeonjung, and several others.
-yes Sejeong is not stressed at all I think that's one of the reasons that made her so endearing and popular, she is just ultra positive. and yes DG Somi and Sejeong are friends recently at Christmas Somi spent an evening with several members of I.O.I with whom she is still friends. and Sejeong always reacts to the comeback of Somi or other members of the group when they make comebacks. and yes Sejeong and Jihyo are but also they went on a road trip together. yes Mina looks familiar to you because she was the second owner of Hotel de luna with IU.
- don't worry i won't blame you i 'am not even biased by Sejeong at this point she's in my ultimate bias list with very few other idols. i just follow her career on every aspect i watch all her drama, i by all her album and all merch. i got poster, t-shirt and everything. i'am a Sejeong simp at this point.
-the cube team was very cool Soyeon was already shining at that time and Eunbin was very charismatic she joined CLC at the same time the show was broadcast.
-the DSP team was very criticized because despite the experience of the 2 members, they did not shine vocally and they did not do the choreography very well and no, they were in their twenties.
-BYJ is a very respected mentor and very feared by the idols because she is indeed very tough but very fair most of the time the idols are grateful to her because this training and advice helped them raise.
-Somi I am very proud of Somi, she proved in this show that JYP was completely wrong about her. she had all the talent and enormous star potential that was required. the excuse of being too young no longer worked. having ousted her who was in the final of sixteen to reintroduce Momo who had been eliminated discredited JYP for me. bein sur momo was very good and I love her . but she made her debut in Twice unintentionally on Somi's back because of JYP. Later JYP was interviewed about Somi's success and rising popularity. and why he didn't integrate her into Twice despite its popularity. at the time JYP compared Somi to Kimtchi that she was very talented but had not yet fermented enough and that he had a project for her (at the time putting her as leader of ITZY) but we know all now that it was wrong. and that he simply wasted all his potential.

I guess you're right about already experienced idols being on these shows like Yujin & Hui, I just thought that maybe it was an evolution of mnet survival shows and initially it would be a bit different :)
IDK why it took me this long to mention Soyeon, I thought that eyes were deceiving me 🤣

Just to clarify, back when I reacted to Kim Sejeong for the first time I looked her name up, I think I even mentioned the group and this show in the original reaction. So even though I read the group's name and their members, I honestly don't even remember much other than Somi, Chungha, and Sejeong, which is why I either don't recognize some OR am surprised by some appearances (I forgot that Somi was part of it which is why I was surprised lol).
So I guess we can still do the finale as usual with maybe a bit of fast-forward (hehe pun) for the members that I do know :)

Hello friend. I'm a new patron. I've only been here 1 month. And so far, I'm watching starting with old videos featuring BLACKPINK. Because I'm a very big Blink and I'm only interested in videos with their participation. I just finished BLACKPINK DAIRYS. I got ahead of myself a little bit and looked at how many things and what kind of videos are waiting for me ahead. And I am very impressed with the number of them. But I'm interested in one specific video, which unfortunately is not here. And I really want to ask for a reaction to this video, but besides, I don't want to disrupt your schedule. I'm sure you have everything planned in advance. I just hope you can find time in the future to react to it. Yes, I'm not in a hurry myself, I still have a long way ahead with all these videos that are already available. So now about the reaction that I want to ask you to do is a podcast of Dua Lipa with Jennie. There is no video , but only audio, which is 39 minutes long. But it's a very very very good podcast. I'm sure you'll like this. And one more request. Can you respond to this comment? Whether you agree or not doesn't matter, as long as I can make sure you read it. Thank you in advance, from new patronчик)

really. DG do you know the final composition of the group?? I know that you know part of the line up because some of the members are very well known and you have already reacted to some of them but I thought that you did not know the names of at least 3 or 4 members.
-yes basically as it was a project and they were all unaware of the success that the group was going to have, they signed a 1 year contract. but in truth the group was only active for 8 months from May 2016 to January 2017. because of conflict of activity between the group and other groups of which certain girls were part. I.O.I even had a sub-unit because not all the members could do all the promotion of the group because they were already in other groups.
-the produce series was stopped in season 4 because of a huge vote manipulation scandal. an investigation was carried out and the result is clear; the last 2 seasons were completely manipulated. season 2 not too much and in season 1 they believe that perhaps a girl was pushed by the production and "stole" her place but nothing is official.
-and yes DG the manipulation is especially in relation to the way in which the production highlights this or that girl. because indeed there are certain girls who have seen it very rarely. but in produce we have a way to follow the progress of the girls almost daily. and see their pre-audition and their audition in the show. which means that we could still see everyone if we really wanted to. I saw the 101 pre-audition before the show started.

some info to put DG in the context of the produces series. This show is the first major survival show we had in South Korea. of course before we had survival shows or rather "audition shows" like Superstar k, KPOP idol, KPOP STAR. show very similar to what the world had like AMERICAN IDOL, basically people auditioned and the best were selected to show their talents in live shows. and usually 1 winner emerged and became the new star. we also had mini survival shows but specific to a particular agency "sixteen" for JYP, who is next for YG, Kara project by DSP media etc.. basically auditions all the usual in an agency except that They sometimes decide to televise them. in 2015 the korean research institute had identified an incredible number of trainees in kpop agencies around 30,000. a large majority of whom did not have the chance to make their debut. MNET therefore imagined a concept or a national audition of large scale could give a chance to shine with thousands of people coming from several agencies across the country. to this day we remain
1227 agencies
between 30,000 and 40,000 trainees each year
4311 female idol
2640 male idol
776 female groups
420 male group
92 coed/mix groups in 30 years of kpop
which means that around 30% of trainees in the country have a chance of starting. produce 101 therefore held auditions for months in order to select 100 trainees among the best in the country.
and the major difference with the other shows that we saw at the time was that these trainees moved for 4 months to a training center to complete their skills in singing, dancing, rap, stage presence and . produce more than any other show supervising the trainees with short courses that we could follow day by day on the show's website and each week or had a summary. this show gave birth to 4 seasons and many other similar shows (Idol school, G/B planet 999, Mixnine, the unit, Univers ticket etc....)

Wow I forgot this was on the schedule so I was pleasantly surprised to see this drop today!
So DG who specifically do you know makes it into IOI other than Kim Sejeong? I don't want to spoil you in the comments even though this show is like 8 years old so I'll just mention peoples groups from after IOI was over as to not spoil anything.
If you only know Kim Sejeong then maybe the elimination episodes will contain some suspense. If you already know most of the final group I'd be fine if you fast forwarded through the eliminations and maybe just listen to the members speeches.
So Produce was indeed rigged and there was a huge scandal so that's why they rebranded to Girls/Boys planet. It's only a slight variation on the produce format. The main difference is the letter grades during the audition where in GP999 they just gave like 27 members a top9 candidate. The letter grade will put them into a training group so that the coaches/trainers can give them more appropriate training according to their skill levels. So Fs will learn the absolute basics at a very slow pace and the As will get more advanced and faster pace training.
This prince of Asia guy is also getting on my nerves. I've never heard of him before.
So I've never actually sat down and watched this entire show before but at this point I've seen so many clips and performances from all of the people that I'm familiar with. I'm excited to finally watch this thing!
I don't know when Mnet just decides that they have a captive audience and starts turning these into 2 hour minimum episodes. Hopefully it's not this season :)
Some people I think you should know:
-Yoo Yeonjung from Starship is from WJSN. She did the IU cover in Q2 with ViviZ
-Kwon Eunbin from Cube is the Maknae of CLC. She was added to CLC after they debuted. Kwon Eunbi is in Produce 48 not 101 :)
-Jeon Soyeon I'm surprised it took you so long to say something. Her face and name were on screen like 5 times before you mentioned it :)
-Kim Chungha Yes she's here too, not sure why they only showed a random caption with her name and didn't show her face unless I missed it.
-Jeon Somi Yeah at this point she was still with JYP but I guess she didn't like it there or didn't want to be in Itzy so she joined YG's The Black Label and is a successful soloist. But after being put through Sixteen and this show I wouldn't want to stay at JYP either.
I feel like there should be more people on this show that I know so maybe they just haven't shown them yet. At this point I know way more people from produce 48 as they're mostly in active groups. A lot of the post IOI groups flopped like Pristin and Gugudan
DSP has Kara, Kard, Young Posse, and had April and Finkl now owned by RBW. Young-ji from Kara was seen giving the 2 girls advice. They did the "butt" dance as can be seen when the camera man zoomed in super close on one of them. I think maybe the coaches/mentors said they couldn't judge their vocals because there was to much MR/backing track for their audition?
Pledis has Seventeen and Fromis_8 now owned by Hybe
With the DIA members and others who already debuted I'm not sure why you were surprised that these survival shows had already debuted contestants. That's been the case in both Girls and Boys Planet. CLC Yujin and Pentagon's Hui for example.
I'm still generally not a big fan of including already debuted contestants in active groups on these shows. If they're group is disbanded or they left then it's fine.
And Yes these survival shows aren't fair. You have people with 3 months of training vs 3 years vs actual experience in the industry vs "celebrities" like Somi who already have a large voter base from other shows/activities.
The Kim Juna thing was bad. Let's shame her for being born on national television. I had a misplaced hope that they'd be like hey everyone stop judging her for who her parent's are and let's appreciate her for her own skills. But this is mnet so that's not what we got even though her singing was incredible. Even good dancers aren't necessarily going to be good a freestyling so asking someone who isn't a confident dancer to freestyle in front of 100 people is ridiculous. I do agree that they are trying to form a girl group so the members need to have a minimum level of dancing skills so they don't have to give her an A and can give her a grade that will receive more basic dance training. And I have to believe that she only said uhm once now the 50 times they replayed that while the coaches/mentors were talking.
I think I"ve talked long enough so I'll stop here. I hope you enjoy the show and mnet doesn't get in it's own way too much. Loved the reaction as always!
