A littpe thread about the lore if you want context! : https://twitter.com/minghaocheol_/status/1743870296447484335?s=19

La Poem was epic!

Star Dust

Thanks for explaining! I could tell it was an inside joke, but I had no idea what was happening. 😂

Star Dust

Can we get more sexy Minjeong duet dances please????

Star Dust

His fancam was insane!

Star Dust

You should definitely watch a Lee Know fan cam of this performance. I don't know if his cats were out of food, and he needed extra money or what, but he went insane during this lol

- I just found out that the Circle Awards are now on youtube as well, so it's gonna be an even longer one for me 😅 - Somewhere during the show there was this little break where PSICK (apparently they are comedic youtubers) did their own little award show with the idols, which I thought was quite funny: https://youtu.be/-mXql1yMqdg ZB1 - I like that all the artists got to do more than just 1 song. Although the outfits might not always match both/all songs, and there's always gonna be some sort of transition, but still, it gives the artists a little more breathing room. LA POEM - Damn! That was epic! Can we have this at every awards show please? STAYC - Ahhh, a nice little homage to the (big) stars that we missed on the awards shows: Twice, SNSD, Red Velvet 😊 BoyNextDoor - And another homage. Nice. - "BoyNextDoor in your area" 😬 I get that it would be a little weird to sing "Blackpink", but this isn't it either for me. I would've preferred if they picked a song/part that didn't have "Blackpink" in it. - I really appreciate they wrote and sang their own lyrics though, plus they sounded great. YEONJUN - Classically trained dancers just hit different (Yeonjun, Taemin, Hyunjin, Jimin, etc). Especially in these kind of songs. NEWJEANS - Another group that has been performing their ass off. Do you think they'll be close to ZB1 by now? 😅 - Yes, contemporary dance. I'm not sure what you meant by this being "different". From other songs/artists performances? Sure. But from other Cool With You performances? Not really. Cool With You already had them contemporary dancing in the mv (aka the muses). - Definitely not my fav outfits 😬 - Everytime I see them dance I get pleasantly reminded of how brilliant their choreographer/producer was. They literally got the assignment to be synchronized without being the same 😅 You can always see them do the same move, yet all be different at the same time: one would raise an arm, one would look left, the other right, etc. I can't stress enough how groundbreaking this is, especially for girlgroups. It really makes it look they are having fun together, and thereby makes you want to join them. BSS - Their performance quality is just so off the charts, I can see them easily do musicals for example. LE SSERAFIM - Yeah, their outfits match very well with the rock concept and sound 🤟 - We love it when these girlgroups go rock! Maybe this'll warm these shows up to invite Dreamcatcher sometime?🤞 TXT - Performing my 2 fav songs 😍 A little short on the Neverland though 😋 - Great dance break: both sound and dance. - Yeah the cuts were so abrupt. IVE - The mermaid/pearl theme was nice. SEVENTEEN - Always bringing the energy. Love it. They really have been a standout on all these award shows. Something very random: I watched the Aladdin movie the other day for the first time, and the main character kinda reminded me of you 😅

Let's go, final award show! Well, for you at least. I'm still gonna watch the Hanteo Awards in February. And I also saw the Circle Chart Music Awards that happened a few days after Golden Disc. Really not that special to be honest. There's nothing egregiously wrong with it, camera work and production were completely fine. But nothing stood out either. So I'd say ending this award season with GDA is a good call 😊 La Poem performed with Ateez in the semi finals of Kingdom. The song was Answer :) ZEROBASEONE - Losing your train of thought at the sight of Ricky is so real lmao - If I'm not mistaken, ZB1 attended all 10 award shows / year-end festivals this season. If they're also at the Hanteo Awards next month, they'll have the complete set. That's wild, man. - But I must admit, seeing the same songs performed over and over again gets a bit tiring after a while. This is why I really appreciate that they're doing Our Season instead of Crush this time. And I also like the In Bloom remix. LA POEM - Epic. Just so fucking epic. I love operatic covers like this. - And I really gotta take the time to listen to their own original music at some point. STAYC - Intro medley with Cheer Up by Twice, Way To Go by Girls' Generation and Power Up by Red Velvet. I love that they did this! - While Stayc weren't at The Fact Music Awards or MAMA, they have not missed out on a single show since MMA. 8/10 shows attended. Just behind ZB1 in that regard. Golden Stage speKtrum Covers - You really gotta take a proper look at Boynextdoor on your Youtube channel. So far they only have four MVs. That should be doable in one reaction I think. The songs are But I Like You, One & Only, Serenade and But Sometimes. - Nice job writing new lyrics. Especially for a rap heavy song like Shut Down. - The actual vibe of Boynextdoor is VERY different from this, just so you know :D - Since ZB1 are covering IU, let me take a moment to frEAK THE FUCK OUT OVER THE FACT THAT IU IS COMING TO GERMANY IN JUNE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA like, I will (hopefully) get to hear IU sing My Sea with my own ears. What even is real life? 🥺 - I'm very conflicted about the Guilty cover. Yes, Yeonjun did great. But why did he cover THIS song? Guilty is still so new and Taemin himself has said several times how badly he wants to go to these award shows and perform it. So why didn't they invite Taemin? It's such a personal song to him specifically that it feels kinda wrong to have someone else cover it on a big stage like this. I guess the Hanteo Awards will be my final hope for Taemin to be invited as a solo act. NewJeans - The atmosphere of this performance is amazing. So serene! But slightly haunting as well. - Just a quintet of fairies. ENHYPEN - That dance interlude between the two songs goes crazy - Germany's biggest theme park Europa Park also hosts a Vampire's Night Club every Halloween season. The Enhypen boys would fit right in there 🦇 BSS - This Fighting remix is AMAZING holy shit - How do you make such an upbeat song sound even MORE euphoric, this doesn't make sense. - I'm not enough of a Carat to know about Pi Cheolin but I read up on him afterwards and it's goddamn hilarious that they did this on this huge award show stage :D LE SSERAFIM X YB - Right off the bat, best performance of the show. Yes, the fact that the instrumentals are provided by an actual rock band does play a factor. - Le Sserafim probably saw that Nik Nocturnal cover and thought „we can do that too“ - Enter Yoon Do-hyun! - THIS FUCKING PERFORMANCE OF FIRE IN THE BELLY I AM GOING INSANE - This is not only my favorite performance of GDA, this is also my favourite performance that Le Sserafim have done on any of these award shows. Yes, other groups have also gone heavy on other shows. But have any of them had actual live instrumentals by an actual rock band? Nope. Only Le Sserafim 😌 YB - So, a bit of very basic background info. YB, formerly known as Yoon Do-hyun Band, are a Korean rock band formed in 1996. They're named after the founder and lead singer Yoon Do-hyun. And they were apparently the first rock band to officially perform in North Korea. It was a concert called „Oh Unification Korea“. Unification was obviously not achieved but YB still won the World Peace Music Award in 2002 for their activities promoting human rights. - I've heard a lot about Orbit Culture, especially from people like TankTheTech. They're on my list! - You're not too far off. While the band was formed in 1996, Yoon Do-hyun himself debuted as a soloist in 1994. That's gonna be 30 years this year. - The visual of this bald drummer in sunglasses giving us the finger heart is so funny, I don't know why 😂 - The pipes on this man. - It's so good to see a bit of K-rock represented here :) TXT - That fog tunnel is stunning! - It's such a beautifully coherent performance with these two songs. Farewell Neverland was a great inclusion. IVE - I don't know, the normal version of Baddie doesn't hit the same way anymore when you've heard the MBC rock remix 😅 - Holy moly indeed. - And then they go and make I Am even more epic than it already is. Wut. Stray Kids - If you wanna thirst over Felix, get in line! I was here first 😤 - Megaverse was MADE for big stages like this. - And what's great about Stray Kids is that they bring a completely different combination of songs to each award show. Topline and S-Class at TMA. Maniac, Get Lit, Topline and Lalalala at AAA. Super Bowl, Social Path, S-Class and Lalalala at KBS. Battle Ground, Lalalala and Megaverse at SBS. Topline with Tiger JK and Lalalala Rock Version at MBC And now Megaverse, S-Class and Hall of Fame at GDA. Making sure it never gets boring, no matter how often we see them. - Everyone needs to be reminded of Hall of Fame and the quality of that song daily. SEVENTEEN - The God of Music himself emerges! Behold the one and only Woozi! - Always love some good Jpop vibes. As you say, it sounds like an anime intro and in the best way! - Seventeen could pretty much perform anything and it would be a perfect ending to this show. This whole show was amazing. Not too long, great performances, good camera work. What else could you wish for? In fact, let me just quickly rank all the award shows right now: 1. Melon Music Awards. This one was just perfect all the way through. Performances, production camera, everything! 2. Golden Disc Awards. Stuff like the La Poem medley and the YB x Le Sserafim cover make this for me. Like MMA, this is a show that feels like a proper special EVENT and I loved every part of it. 3. MBC Gayo Daejejeon. What a way to close the year, huh? Lots of performers, three different stages, collaborations, WILD camera work. 4. Asia Artist Awards. They're the only ones that invited Dreamcatcher, so that's already a plus for me. Loved seeing all the reactions from the different idols. And the fact that so many underrated and often overlooked artists got to perform here was awesome. 5. KBS Music Bank Global Festival. Not sure how I feel about this show being split in half like that. The first half was really good. But when they switch over to the prerecorded part in Japan, it starts to lose me a bit. Humongous stage. Which means the artists look absolutely tiny on it. And too many wide shots for my liking. It wasn't as bad as MAMA but still. And most artists only got to perform one song which is a bit weak tbh. Still, what we got was pretty solid. 6. MAMA Awards. We can talk about the bad camera work all day. It's the reason why this is so low. But the artists are the reason why it's not even lower. Everyone always pulls out ALL the stops for MAMA. Putting on these spectacular pieces of performance art. It's a shame that so much of it is lost in the asinine way Mnet decides to shoot it. 7. Circle Chart Music Awards. This one is just kinda unremarkable. There's nothing wrong with it technically but most of the performances just look and feel like something you'd see on a regular weekly music show stage. We did have some nice highlights like Kiss of Life and AKMU but that wasn't enough to bump this one higher for me. 8. The Fact Music Awards. Even more unremarkable. Again, everything is quite solid. But this show completely failed to excite me. You could have told me that these performances were from a regular music show and I'd have believed you. Nothing about this screams „award show“. 9. Seoul Music Awards. Ironically not held in Seoul but rather Bangkok. Yeah, this was an atrocity. I like that the line up was completely different to the other shows but man, these poor artists were done so dirty. From the pitifully small audience in that huge stadium over the terrible camera work to the horrendous production. It's really not a good look when all the sound just disappears in the middle of a performance. Twice. 10. SBS Gayo Daejeon. I don't need to explain this one, do I? So yeah, as you can see I'm very happy with how the Golden Disc Awards turned out. And because the number of artists here is more reasonable, I can do the thing I did at MMA and rank the indiviual performances. I won't elaborate on this ranking though. Because I'm lazy. 1. LE SSERAFIM 2. Stray Kids 3. TXT 4. IVE 5. LA POEM 6. NewJeans 7. SEVENTEEN / BSS 8. YB 9. ENHYPEN 10. ZEROBASEONE 11. STAYC 12. BOYNEXTDOOR 13. Sung Si Kyung x Cha Eunwoo 14. Parc Jae Jung Last of all, as always, the Spotify playlist for this show: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3mAcdCqrXtvQ807GlWLfxu Thanks for taking us on this long award show ride with you, Daniel. It was really fun!

- the golden disks are for me the best show among all the awards ceremonies, some years there were actually three stages in gigantic stadiums the golden disks of 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 were just incredible - It's such a cool poem to see this group cover the songs that made the year 2023. the arrangement and harmony was so epic. It brings back a bit of freshness to see this kind of group in an awards ceremony. and in their genre (opera, musical) The poem is very very popular they always play to a sold-out audience -STAYC they are always so adorable I loved that they incorporated a little medley into this performance. -BND I liked their version of SHUTDOWN their rap part was well adapted for them. - Yeonjun very good cover once again I love this awards show for that. see artists cover other artists' songs. he has incredible charisma. - NEW JEANS agree with you DG this version was quite different from what they usually do. and they don't often perform Cool with you in the end of year shows, I think it's the first time. generally they perform Super shy, ETA or Ditto. very contemporary version - Enhypen I liked this classical version of Bit ME the instrumental was really epic. -BBS they have an incredible stage presence probably the most motivating song of the year. They control the crowd that's for sure. This song is everywhere, there isn't a day that I don't hear it in a cafe, a store, or at work. and yes I agree in a sense it's the song of the year in any case I would have no problem with that. -LESSERAFIM x YB When I saw this performance the first time I immediately thought of you DG I said to myself if for him this is not the performance of the evening I don't understand. This is the best version of UNFORGIVEN that I have seen live to date. and the girls are incredibly pretty SAKURA CHAEWON I love you -YB so happy to finally see more live bands in the end of year ceremonies this group is great I love Japanese rock and Korean rock deserves to be highlighted more. -TXT the group that I got to know better and loved this year Chasing that feeling is a fantastic song my favorite from TXT and one of my favorites of the year. the dance break in the middle of the performance was incredible and rather long compared to others. -Ive what to say, I no longer have the words to describe my affection and my passion for this group and these members. Yujin is probably one of the most charismatic female idols of this generation and Wonyoung's beauty is unrivaled for me. they always manage to surprise us with new versions, new intros or break dances. DG you should give a hard reaction to their albums, they have some gems that you don't know that you would definitely like. the original version of I'am is already very powerful, it sounds like an Anthem or a march but here they managed to make it even bigger. I would definitely see a live performance with a symphonic group. -STRAY KIDS Holly fuck what a performance. they're insane I didn't really understand their choices for the main title. several SKZ fans including me prefer Hall of Fame or Megaverse to S-Class. I'm glad they performed all 3 songs. - SEVENTEEN very refined performance, they didn't change their songs too much, they stayed on the original versions, it doesn't bother me SUPER is in my top 3 Boys group songs with Chasing that feeling, and Hall of Fame. so very good performance as always but not performance of the evening.

I had no idea, so thank you for the insights!! 🙏

Not sure how much you understood about the BSS feature Dino in fighting because it was admittedly a reference to a fandom inside joke/recurring character that Dino plays called pi cheolin (wordplay in Korean of “featuring”). His character started in a fan concert VCR of an old nosy Korean man stereotype and he’s played it several times since in going seventeen. I literally LOST IT when I saw the performance because who has the clout and confidence to reference a fandom inside joke to THIS degree in an awards show performance LOLOL. Iconic. This was definitely my favorite series of performances thus far

Lauren Freeman

Though I wasn't a fan of some of the wider shots I managed to almost completely shut up about the camera work this time 🤣
