Ocean refers to the sea of light sticks during an idol’s concerts. So for Blackpink, it’s a pink ocean since their light sticks give off the color pink. A black ocean then is when fans turn off their light sticks while watching their own idols. Oftentimes, it is used to signify disappointment with the idol. It’s probably the worst and scariest thing to happen for an idol because it’s your fans turning against you. And imagine performing before a blackout crowd—a sea of black. There are cases of black oceans and you can even see the idols performing but on the verge of tears.
