Middle of November NaNoWriMo update

Sup my dudes! Last month I said I was dedicating my November to NaNoWriMo (though admittedly, this announcement was on a $5 post, which was an oversight in hindsight) and I thought I would give you all an update on the going ons, if you're interested in that kind of stuff.

For those unaware, I've been slowly working on a book known as The Executioners, which includes characters you've probably seen floating around tumblr, twitter, and the monthly sketch dumps. In fact, in December it'll be 3 years since I posted the very very first Executioner sketches! Some of them have changed a lot, others not at all, and I may do an updated comparison just for fun if I have the time.

Anyways, NaNoWriMo challenges people to write a 50k word novel in 30 days. And, well, I hit that goal pretty early on, but that was thanks to having some scenes written out prior. I've been using NaNoWriMo to keep track of the word count by chronological chapter that I've written. So, currently, this is what's sitting in my chapters folder. The first five chapters, with 3 and 5 still unfinished, have the word count sitting at a rockin', unedited 50k+.

But that's not all. I have several more bits and pieces of scenes waiting to be slotted into their respective chapters that I haven't included in the word count. I crossed off any major spoiler titles if you take a look at that list, and to give you some peace of mind, the "does it bother you that we're dead" bit refers to two characters talking about how their deaths have been faked. There's no shalmalmmalayn twist where they're all actually ghosts or something, I'm sorry to say.

I've learned two things from starting this project, and NaNoWriMo specifically:

A. This book is going to hit way out over the 100k word count and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get all of the first draft done this month (but I can get a hell of a lead on it). The final Executioner story is set to be around ~16-19 chapters, though the first few at the beginning are a bit longer than the later chapters.

B. My dudes, writing and editing is hard lmao. In the big ol "chapter revisions important" file, I have notes debating if several scenes should be altered, moved around, or removed entirely -- which is causing me to have to completely rewrite previous sections/dialogue/find new ways to introduce characters if their original debuts get cut.

I've made up stories and plots my whole life, but sitting down and writing one chronologically to the end is a whirlwind of a task I underestimated. Mad props to all you authors out there.

Really, much of this post boils down to "this book is hard work but it is being worked on", I just want to assure ya'll of that. Also, the $5 tier sketch dump is still being filled up just fine, so no worries on that end either! I hope you guys haven't lost your taste for black and grey sketches and spooky dudes, because they're in full force this month.

I have one last little update before I head off, and it's something that I just learned last night. I hesitate to say anything too much about it because it's still all very new, but there is a 99% chance I will be moving again very early in 2018. My dad got offered a new job up north that he's very eager to take, and as I still currently live with my parents (and also want to get back up north haha), I'd be making the move with them. This means that, over the rest of November, December, and early January, I'm going to have to help my mom pack up and sell the house, which is no minor feat.

I'm not sure how this'll effect my patreon work, but I want to throw that out there early enough so you all know the situation!

SO, with all that said and done, thank you for taking the time to read! Good luck on your own NaNoWriMos, your own art and your own work, and I'll see ya'll again later this month ✌

Late comment but good luck on the book and the move kada! I’ve never written a novel before but it seems hard. Still, I believe in you and I know that the end results are gonna be satisfying and I’m looking forward to reading the finished product!! Also good luck again on the move soon! I hope that place has lots of snow
