“Again with this tabloid bullshit?” Maria seethed, smacking the cover of a magazine with the back of her hand. “If they would stop turning the Executioners into some….some celebrity sensation, our jobs would be a whole lot easier! Doesn’t help that Smith absolutely eats this kind of shit up, he probably sent the picture in to the presses himself!”

A nervous rookie sat before the investigator in New Hope City’s police station, cautiously eyeing the magazine their superior held. Maria turned to them and wagged the weekly paper in their face, making the recruit tense up.

“You’re new to the city, yeah? To this whole ordeal? THIS is Smith. Burn that helmet into your memory because he’s priority number one. He’s the leader of the Executioners who, to our knowledge, could be just about anyone. We’ve never seen his skin or heard his voice unmodulated like the rest, and he’s got no outstanding physical features. He’s just a good ol’ fashioned John Smith. And somehow, some-freakin’-how, this man has been able to organize nine of the most deadly, self-centered killers New Hope’s ever seen into a GODDAMN FUNCTIONING CRIME SYNDICATE!” Maria slammed her hand down on her desk which caused the rookie to jump, but the rest of the office didn’t even look up from their computers. She rested her forehead in her hand and tossed the magazine without looking, horribly missing the trash can.

“I’m sorry, it’s been a long week. We’ve lost a...” She paused to rub her eyes wearily. “Just watch out for this guy, okay? He may be the least outrageous member of the group but he’s their mastermind. Don’t…don’t underestimate him.”
