Unimplemented Trap, Episode 43: The Worst of Both Worlds

Colin sold some stuff at VCF Midwest without even being there, and Steve picked up a hard drive that's probably more useful as a boat anchor.

I was unironically interested in the shed watch update, so thank you for that

Well, since I was called out I feel like I have to respond. :P I'm currently writing the script for my VCFMW Recap video (spoiler: it's probably going to be the last one I do in this format). My short takes: 1. The show is about the same as last year, except about 20% bigger. This obviously makes it harder to keep having a fresh take on things. Writing pithy blurbs for almost 240 exhibits is really hard! The second panel track was a much needed addition. 2. I spent 90% of Saturday and most of Sunday filming. The show has gotten too big for me to do my usual "show you everything" schtick. Since they're adding another partition next year to increase floor space again it will literally be impossible for me to do all the necessary filming in the time allotted. I would need a second cameraperson and even then it'd still take up all my time. 3. The show is functionally a day and a half long. It's too short now for the amount of people with tables on the show floor. Exhibitors start bailing by noon on Sunday and that's a real drag as an attendee. At this point the show really needs another day for attendees to better enjoy the show. 4. Next year I plan on either tabling or joining with someone else's table. Enough people have bugged me about it that it makes sense to do it. It would also let me in on Friday which would make things more enjoyable for me personally. I really do like talking about the event and showing off all the cool displays, but the practical reality is kind of staring me in the face. It negatively affected my enjoyment of the event this year, especially because in terms of views those videos basically get no traction (despite all the comments I get from people and the show staff saying how they like them). The juice ain't worth the squeeze given how much effort goes into writing the script, editing, etc. Last year I had enough downtime that I could go to some panels, the whole auction, etc without feeling pressure, but that was definitely not the case this year.
