This is a list of basic how to's for the file types we use.
General romhacking knowledge must be learnt on your own.

IPS/UPS/BPS
Note:: If a patch is NOT named the same as the game, this means the game needs to be extracted and that file needs to be patched specifically.
Aquire a dump of your own game.
Aquire our IPS/UPS/BPS.
Use https://www.romhacking.net/patch to patch your rom.
Additional Info:
If using RetroArch:
Rename the IPS/UPS exactly the same name as your rom.
Launch the game (this is a patch on the fly method and does not require patching roms directly every time).
For other games:
Holocure : Apply IPS patch to data.win
Etrian odyssey V: Extract the game, then patch the MORI5.HPB/HPI files. Rebuild the game or use layerfs and copy those 2 files to the 3DS.

3DS
Important Note
Finding a program to extract 3DS games can sometimes be faulty. You can use citra to extract romfs for games easily by using this method.
LayerFS
Your game must be installed.
Aquire TitleID of your game from http://3dsdb.com.
Place the romfs into the /luma/titles/YourGamesTitleID/romfs on your SD card.
Hold select on 3DS boot choose the enable game patching.
Cia
Aquire a dump of your CIA.
Decrypt then Extract CIA(s).
Overwrite the extracted romfs with the mods romfs.
Rebuild CIA then install.
Cia individual file patching
Aquire a dump of your CIA.
Decrypt then Extract CIA(s).
Patch the individual files.
Use the layerfs method.
Place the romfs into the /luma/titles/YourGamesTitleID/romfs on your SD card.

Citra
Custom Texture (Citra Exlcusive)
Open Citra (Emulation>Configure>Graphics).
Enable Use Custom Textures + Preload Custom Texture.
Right click the game.
Open Custom Texture Location.
Place files directly into it.
RomFS Mods
Right click the game.
Open "Mods Location".
Place RomFS folder there.
Play the game.
