2025-03-04 22:14:53 +0000 UTCHardhome has some very interesting lore, it was the only proper town north of the wall for a while and even conducted trade via ships with other places. Then, several hundred years ago, it was wiped out in a single night although it's unsure of whether it was a natural cause like a volcano or a magical/unnatural cause (fire was involved so probably not the white walkers, but maybe some kind of other demon/magic). But the whole place was considered cursed as there are reports of constant fires burning in nearby caves and screams coming out of those caves. No one lived there until Mance lost his battle against Stannis and many survivors decided to take refuge there. In the books Jon Snow never went there, he sent ships but they sent back word that the wildlings tried to take their ships by force and also there were the undead in the water and in the surrounding areas and they needed help. I think that's the last we hear of it before the book ends.
