I was thinking that, too. You would have thought the dog would just have retrieved the stick and left, but he obviously got interested in something more.

Yea, when he didn't finish Helge, he failed to make his changes.

That whole sequence was amazing!

Last comment of my yapathon for this reaction I know I said I was going to tone down my waffling but there is just so much to unpack in these episodes and I love this show so I can't help myself. But I had to mention the most important part of this entire reaction we have the first time traveling dog, Gretchen. Okay maybe it's not the most important but it's definitely strange that it somehow got through the tunnel to 86 to go straight to Claudia who's probably tripping balls finding her dog she lost 33 years ago in the cave. It seems unlikely that helge threw the stick it was chasing all the way through the tunnel.

Ulrich didn't change anything when he traveled to 53. he caused things to stay exactly the same by leaving helge in the bunker when the portal opened introducing helge to time travel. The file that Charlotte found was always there but nobody found it because nobody was looking. If you remember what the clock maker H G tannhaus said in episode 8 when Ulrich met his father in 53, "would you have already changed things with this encounter? And is it even possible to change things? Or is time an eternal beast that can't be defeated?" So far in the show time has been undefeated even adult jonas creates the hole by coming back and trying to destroy it if you take Noah's word for it.

I feel so bad for jonas. When he says to Ines "Now I have another grandmother and she's the principal of my school. Her husband, who's fucking my mom, is looking for his son, who is my father. A few days ago I kissed my aunt. And the crazy thing is...there's nothing wrong with any of them. They're okay. I'm what's wrong." That last line is soul crushing. soon after that he takes a long look at the beam that mikkel hung himself from before hugging his mom and setting off to return mikkel to 2019. Knowing full well it will erase him from existence. A life for a life.

It's interesting to realize why egon had such a hard on for 86 ulrich. it's because he met Ulrich in the 1950s, and believes he murdered the two boys whose bodies turned up. On a subconscious level he knows that he knows the kid - and he does, he simply knows an older version whom he met in the past. Ulrich of course recognized Egon as the incompetent police officer who was so suspicious of him when Mads disappeared, and instead of realizing that his behaviour influences how Egon will see him later he antagonizes him - making sure that Egon will later become suspicious of him without realizing why. Basically, it's another bootstrap paradox. He even said to 86 ulrich that he knows that look and he does it was the same one on the child murderer he caught in the 50s. And the line from the song 86 ulrich was playing all the way back in episode 3 "all I want is to take many lives the more the better I feel" would obviously make egon suspicious it's the same thing that child killing mad man said to him in 53.
