As this means we will have two long series running at the same time, I have plans in place for just such a thing:
I will continue watching a season of Sunny, then inserting either a catchup series or an overall short series that has gotten a lot of support here. As we catch up on Sunny, the following show will be Futurama, and we'll be doing the same thing with that one, as far as breaks between seasons.
Both Sunny and Futurama are episodic to where the breaks shouldn't hinder the flow at all.
This will keep us with a wide variety of shows for you guys. Add to that, the AMAZING group of G100 sponsors we have here, and there will always be a variety of reactions, hopefully to give everyone something they enjoy.
As far as Pokemon, I will be skipping all filler. Also, you fans of the show, is it true there is one installment that is really weak? I've heard that from a few people and if there's an arc or season that is poor, please let me know and we'll skip over it.
We'll get all our ducks in a row regarding Pokemon as we prepare to get it going. ๐

2024-11-05 01:34:48 +0000 UTCAs a newcomer, I don't have much to add, but I do have a opinion: Watching 1,300+ episodes is a daunting task. Strategically skipping filler episodes is a wise choice. In fact, some might argue that watching only the top N-hundred episodes, in chronological order, is the optimal way to experience the series. After all, we have limited time, and variety is key. It's better to choose what to watch than what to skip? For example: just by skipping the worst 7% of Pokรฉmon episodes, one could watch the whole of BoJack Horseman. (I am fun at parties)

I mean both have quite a bit of bad writing + some really lame characters(cough Leon and Goh cough), but Journeys was the biggest disappointment(especially the Jobbers 8) ever on top of it + an absolutely unworthy ending for Ash's own journey.

2024-10-27 16:38:06 +0000 UTCAgain, as I said, I've never seen that era so I have no opinion, I'm just very in tune with the Pokemon fan base in general since I'm still an avid player of the games and honestly, this comment section is the first time I've heard anyone say anything positive about the Black and White anime. There's a chance it's better than I've heard and the few clips I've seen, I've just seen a lot of stupid coming out of that era. But we have a few hundred episodes to figure out what he plans to do about it, so we'll see when that time comes

It's a weird mix of being episodic and not at the same time since, unlike sitcoms like Sunny and Futurama, the plot is actually progressing towards something. Even episodes that seem like filler have small nuggets of something that either progress the story or someone's character arc or something. Very few episodes truly have nothing to offer, but also very few episodes truly have a substantial amount of meaningful plot to offer.

I loved how different it was, but something about the series felt toned down compared to other seasons. But maybe a rewatch can change that, so I'm willing to give it another try.

For the games the series was based on, I had no problem, but for the series, I feel the characterization hit a low point, and the story just put me off. That's why I was hesitant about Pokemon. In my opinion, the first 13 seasons were some of the best, and some were better than others. My favorite is from Advanced Battle storyline, but that's probably because Gen 3 was and still is my favorite Pokemon game . Maybe re-watching with Curtis might change my mind a bit about the later seasons because I do like the games themselves.

All those episodes where they coincidentally happen to show up to this little village's annual Sunflora festival or whatever and then leave at the end with nothing substantial or meaningful to the plot in any way happening in between is absolutely filler

Some say that it's still not bad enough to skip, some prefer to pretend it never happened. They tried to give a soft reset for the series both in anime and in game during that era of Pokemon, and part of that soft reset was basically making Ash unlearn everything from the past several years of adventures and make absolutely moronic mistakes he absolutely should know better than to do. It's the era of the infamous moment where Pikachu lost a battle against a Pokemon that had literally never battled before. Some people can't bear to spend something like 500-600 or so episodes with a character at that point and then watch him suddenly become a bumbling fuckin moron for seemingly no reason. There's also the supporting cast. You've already met Misty, almost every era has a new girl tagging alongside Ash, plus one guy you'll meet soon who sticks with him through most of the show until parting ways at the beginning of Black and White. The new guy that takes his pace along with the token female companion of this era are also seen underwhelming. A lot of people find her annoying and him a bland, stale piece of white bread. Personally as a kid, I fell off the show part way through the Johto era, the third in the series and about a real world decade or so before the events of Black and White, so all this is not me trying to deter you from watching Black and White as I haven't actually seen it myself and don't have my own opinion. I'm just sharing the general consensus of the Pokemon fan base that Black and White, even amongst people who do say isn't so horrible that you should skip it, is without question the worst the show ever gets.

2024-10-27 15:38:05 +0000 UTCthere is no filler in the Pokemon anime actually, it's an entirely original series set in the Pokemon world, it does take inspiration from the games though, but does its own thing, things like "animefillerlist" list of filler episodes for Pokemon is fake, I don't even know how they came up with that list, each season has its own strengths and weaknesses as well, like some of the weaker written seasons make up for it with much stronger animation.

I don't think we should be as strict on filler as we usually are.Pokรฉmon, Especially the first season, was a morning Cartoon show. the main plot was not incredibly important. I'm worried if we get too strict We're gonna be missing out on some really funny episodes. Like the "James returns home" episode. That one is hysterically funny, But I'm worried we'd miss it. Because nothing of importance really happens. So In summary, I think we should go through at least the first few seasons as they are.

2024-10-27 15:30:35 +0000 UTCI'm curious how that will shape up. It's very hard to draw the line at what constitutes 'filler' in a show like Pokemon. So much of the show is the little, episodic adventures they have along the way... By most shows' standards, filler would be, like, 80% of the show. (I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the original Pokemon series. It's got nostalgia points for me but not much else. Some of the later seasons-- like Diamond and Pearl or X/Y really improved on the formula, in my opinion.)
