2024-09-27 18:03:46 +0000 UTCthe song near the end is called "Flowers in the Snow", it's a beautiful song, Maomao and Jinshi have a bit of a hard time saying what they really mean... I can't exactly blame this time, Maomao couldn't bring herself to just say out right she wanted to stay of her own will because of how she's been brought up to act around nobles, and Jinshi just wanted to respect her wishes this time, it's a sad bit of misunderstanding, at least they eventually sort it out before anything bad could happen. I should probably address this because it's kind of left out the anime a little... what happened to Fengming's family and associates because of what she did... ancient China's criminal system was brutal... you're not punished as an individual, what you do reflects on your family and associates as well. After Fengming's execution her family's assets and properties were seized, and a number of her closest relatives were punished with mutilations as punishment for her actions(the exact details are vague... but probably removing knees... hands, or other things...), then by level of association people connected to them were punished to various degrees, the least of these being the dismissals like what happened to Maomao since her kidnappers were vaguely connected to that family. it was a disgusting system designed to install fear.
