To give you an idea of how close the Emperor and Ah Duo once were. They said she was a Nurse's child. Back in those days a Nurse wasn't medical personnel. They were typically a woman who gave birth around the same time as a wealthy woman. They were usually responsible for breast feeding the child and pretty much raising it. Since noblewomen were typically off doing other things and typically didn't have time for child-rearing. She was literally someone the Emperor grew up with. In Ah-Duo's case she was older than the Emperor, but they would've more or less been raised as brother and sister.

I know a lot of people who saw the episode were confused as to which baby was which and getting the Empress dowager mixed up with the concubine etc. Everything I posted above was in the episode, I just said spoilers so anyone seeing this episode here for the first time wouldn't read the comment before they watched the episode. I'll edit my post to clarify, I wish there was a way to spoiler tag comments.

2024-09-26 18:52:35 +0000 UTCit is a pretty tangled web of tragedies, I feel bad for Fengming, there's no way she could have known that, that type of honey was toxic to a baby, it doesn't justify what she'd go on to do... but she had been torturing herself for a long time over it... the only sympathy Maomao could show her was making sure Ah Duo never found out she was responsible for her baby's death by only telling Jinshi about the assassination attempt on Lishu. Also I'll say this, it does seem like the emperor still cares for Ah Duo, he didn't just toss her away after she became infertile, he stayed with her for as long as he could, but he did eventually need to let her go for political reasons... she was his only consort for a long time, before he had to start taking them on when he became emperor, he also made sure that she was well taken care of after leaving the palace, the place she's going to live now is essentially one of his major vacation homes from what I remember from the manga.
