so some extra little details from the manga they didn't include, Maomao was partly able to figure out what was going on was because courtesan Fuyou was able to scale the walls, it takes a lot of athleticism, dexterity and skill to constantly do that every night without fail, one wrong move and you'd fall to your death in the moat surrounding the walls, she's a highly skilled dancer, anyone capable of all of that wouldn't just accidentally slip in their first meeting with the emperor. Maomao's investigative skills are insanely good. The nickname Gaoshun gave Maomao, Xiaomao basically translates into little cat or young cat, Xiao is basically the Chinese equivalent of chibi, and mao is the sound of a cat, which is why Maomao sometimes has cat ears.
